Pls house,What kind of dog should I get for my children, 2 year old and 1year old,respectively because anytime they see a dog they always yearn to touch it and besides,I have always loved dogs.I and my siblings equally grew up with dogs around us,they kind of taught us how to be responsible at a young age...From the making sure we feed them 3 times a day to bathing them once in a week especially every Sunday,it was really fun.I want my own children to equally experience it but with these stories going around about how dogs become possessed and attack their owner,which eventually leads to their death,have been making me put the idea on hold. So pls our dear pet experts,ur advice is needed.

at that age, a small size and low/medium energy dog is the best.

say a lhasa and the likes in that size group wont be a bad idea.

when they get older like 5 to 10 years....you can upgrade to german shepherd or south african boerboel puppies . ( those 2 are lovely with kids if well trainned and socialized and @ that age, they can have same energy level)

please am not a pet guru...i am only advising from personal experience.

@ op do you want other attributes with the dog or just something to keep ur kids busy responsibly?.
You have to consider if you need an indoor or outdoor dog,
If u want a guard dog or a toy dog.
If u want a large breed or a small breed.
Then the grooming when considering a hairy dog,are u ready to groom the coat regularly as ur kids cannot do that yet.
State other attributes you want with the dog to find the most suitable for you.

Well, a Lhasa or chihuahua is perfect.


But irrespective of the breed u buy, if it's well socialised and you got it from puppy stage, and it grew to know that ur lil kids are its best pals, I swear no one can move near them and they will be best of pals.

Have read and saw a vid where a dog in the quest of protecting a lil baby of his owner got in a crazy fight with a snake, killed the snake and also got killed due to snake bite.

All am just saying is that if the dog is well trained along side the dog, then it's cool.


In respect to the stories about a dog killing a child, for me to believe that, I need enough pictures and it wasn't available at all.

Madam just get a nice dog from the toy breed class of dogs. You can Google toy breed dogs to have an idea of what I'm saying.

Didn't you just say size is not a problem? They are really good with kids and are quite intelligent too.
