Sweetlemon: Since it's in vogue to check demographics of appointees rather than their track records, very well then we shall do so. While most of us are shouting "Northern Agenda" Let's take a closer look at this expression called "North". Let's be sincere, when we hear North, the first thing that comes to mind is Hausa/Fulani/Muslim. But we have all forgotten or simply refused to learn that North is divided into Geographically: 1. North East 2. North West 3. North Central
Demographically: 1. Core Muslim 2. Almost 200 Minority tribes 3. A fair chunk of Christian population 4. Hausa/Fulani plus Kanuri Majority Tribes
Simply put, the North is 5 times more complex than the South. Now let's examine possible reasons why we just assume North to be Hausa/Fulani/Muslim. The answer is not rocket science. It's simply because Hausas and Fulanis have been dominating the Northern scene since forever. Now let's take a closer look at Buhari's Northern appointments so far; Did we miss the fact that a fair number of the ones in sensitive posts are from minority tribes and in fact Christians?? Now help me ask yourselves, when last did Northern Christians get recognition? When last did we hear of tribes like Kilba, Angas, Tula, Waja? Is it not indeed some sort of change from the usual Hausa/Fulani/SS/Yoruba/Igbo/Muslim we keep hearing all over the place? Ok nau. Are we aware of the SGF is a Pastor of proven integrity? Don't you think that empowering and recognizing the Christians and minority tribes will go a long way in checking insurgencies and attacks on these vulnerable people by Fulani herdsmen, etc? Are you now trying to say that these minorities in the North who have never been given recognition but have been patiently waiting are lower and inferior Nigerians? Don't they deserve spots just like the conventional Yorubas which make up SW, Igbos which make up SE and then the different SS tribes?
I'm not done yet. Have we noticed that these appointees are not your usual politicians? Does that not mean that it won't be the "awon goons mi" business as usual? They were almost regular people until Buhari made them popular, meaning they don't have a never-ending list of goons they need to reward. I know most disappointed APC fans had placed their bets on Onu, Fashola, and Ameachi. They have erroneously seen Nigeria politics as a sport betting game or a fantasy football league where you conjure up your own "dream team". Smh.
If we still insist on this marginalization talk can we ask ourselves these questions?;
1. Is there more stable electricity in North than in the south? 2. The clean up in sectors so far, does it in the long run affect only Northerners? If the EFCC, Customs, pensions, NNPC etc are functioning properly does it not mean better for us as a whole? When last did you queue for fuel? 3. Buhari just ordered clean up of ogoni areas, (let's not forget we just had an ND son there for the past five years!) Are Northerners the ones to benefit from this exercise?
Can we please just relax our muscles a bit while we watch how things eventually play out? I don't know why the average Nigerian does not think outside the box. These points here are things I pray each and every person reading this will ponder on with at least half an open mind. This is the first time I will be begging the mods to move my thread to FP. My message must touch as many hearts as possible. Call me a hopeless Nigeria-lover. Yeah I know I am because I'm the type that loves with all my heart, I may get angry but I still love.

There is the '' problem''. Government exists for development....not to give clerical jobs. And you Nigerians focus on Abuja so much.....and yet do not focus on what your states are doing! If your state governors were working....you won't miss Abuja at all. You would not be jostling for government job...because your state governor has developed your state to the point that there are jobs galore. You know....I know you Nigerians love oil money. That oil money is what is keeping you from creating jobs...because you import the things you can make. And at the end of the day....the only job is government job. When you can earn far more in a properly diversified economy. But no....you people want to sit down in govt office and chop money. You do not want to take the risky road of developing an idea and providing jobs as a result. You people better stop acting like there is a national cake. And as for me....I wait for the Ministers.....and once appointed.....I wait for their performance. If they are not doing well.....then out APC goes in 2019. If your idea of development is how many scholarships, and how many jobs and promotions....then you have the wrong idea of governance. Yes...and I am also talking to Northerners who think like the two of you do. 2 Likes |

The price of fuel is going down day in day out. We have alot of problems to deal with rather than wasting time on mare appointments. Terrorist activities in the north east, cattle rustling in the north west, communal and ethnice crisis in the north central, kidnappings and baby factories in the south east, rituals and social vices in the south west, oil theft and pollution in the south south. Others are culticism, prostitution, armed robbery, unemployment, poverty and other social problems. To hell with federal chracter if we cannot acheive peace and stability in our nation. 2 Likes |

That is where the Local Govt chairman, the State Governor and the State Commissioners come in. Why many people are complaining about Buhari's appointments or even praising them is because most of them (not all) think that it the job of an Abuja appointee....even if he is the cleaner in Aso Rock...to direct government patronage to their area. That is a wrong idea. If Nigerians are not ready to make their state governors work for them....then we may as well forget about federalism and run everything from Abuja. |

Honestly I share your valuable opinion and I hold it in high regards but let's look at this from another angle. Apart from the greedy politicians who want their goons/protege to be appointed, the reason why most ordinary Nigerians like me shout is the future. Future in the sense that, presently Buhari may be able to perform with this people and no doubt that we all enjoy the output but one thing you forget is that this people will have a very huge influence in the recruitment process of people that will run whichever parastatal they head. Who says the fact that they are technocrats that they cannot be ethnic bigots who will favour their own people above other tribes like we already have in most ministries. We shout unemployment everyday but have you ever considered how many Northern graduates are unemployed compared to the south? and before anyone says I should also compare the number of northern graduates to that of the south, ask yourself, who's fault? The truth is that they don't look for job. Once they graduate its either a family business awaits them to join(for the influential/wealthy ones) or a government job awaits them. The fact is that there's no Unemployment in the north. Only unqualified youths. Visit most government ministries and parastatals in Abuja you get a hint. If tomorrow FG decides to create employment opportunity, this guys will have the control. You can Imagine if the people he appoints also appoints Northerners as trusted allies who also appoints Northerners then the northern Pyramid of appointment goes on until it gets to employments. Am still a Buhari Fan and I trust his judgements on governance but I don't trust the people he's appointing as it relates to recruitment of our youths. Except he wants to tell us SE,SS,SW don't have technocrats that are trustworthy. --My Opinion-- 2 Likes |

This is really one Nigeria. It is well. don't mind them.spme people's reaction is not because of the zone they come from,rather on wat pmb said''EVERY ZONE WILL NOT BE TREATED EQUAL''in which he mentioned95% and 5%.Now if u look at de appoinment u will see the NE are favourded base on that |

Just imagine the original writer could not even get upto 3 likes for this his bias text, this copy copy gal requoted his text see many that likes witout reading it just because she's a gal. Nawa for guys . kestolove95: Buhari said earlier on that his appointments would be MAJORLY based on technocrats and very few everyday politician and that's commendable....Apart from Ita Enang who is a 'politician' and the house of rep dude...do you hear much abt the rest appointees ?? Obiagelli was damn right!!! We tend to see politics/ leadership as a avenue to make money(business) and not as a way of servant-leadership thats why some persons worry about the state of origin of appointees... In governance, a leader is FREE to choose anybody he feels he can work with, trust and can still hold accountable... The problem with the last admin despite how balance the appointment were was that GEJ 'was made' to choose lot of persons he barely knew and can vouch for, that was why things went awry and his govt was hijacked from him... Persons he couldnt call to order cos he was scared of the unknown!! That was the main reason why you hear him claim unaware of some major decisions taken towards the end of his tenure..eg the postponement of election and the moroccan envoy

--My Opinion-- All the more reason why you Nigerians...Northerners and Southerners....should get your state governors working on diversifying the economy so that there may be jobs for all. And anyway....federal character provisions make it increasingly difficult to employ people from one tribe/section.Nowadays...you have to submit potential employee lists to the Fed Character commission for approval.(Especially jobs like Customs....where you must employ from all tribes for the rank and file.). And some Northerners too have employment issuesZ(I read about a Hausa guy from Kaduna who has no job post graduation).....and in the private sector....more Southerners are employed/owning businesses than Northerners.(Shoprite in Kano employs mostly Southerners. And the Banking sector is Southerner run). I am a Southerner by the way.....and I think that govt work is overrated. We must diversify....because oil prices have fallen....and I doubt there would be enough cash to create new jobs in government. 1 Like |

At this point in our polity, Nigerians should forgo federal character for competency and achieving positive results. The law of equity preached by Federal Character has further divided us than uniting the people, and no thanks to the politicians, as emphasis are made on regions rather on our nation, due to greed, self-attitude and corruption. The incumbent president is not the first and last to be skewed in terms of appointment and we should be more concerned about what and how the whole economy will develop with less corruption, using these appointees to steer it. If this will reduce corruption and poverty, enhance human and capital development, provide food and adequate security to Nigerians irrespective of background, sex, status, color and language; then, let the end result justify the appointment. |

soludo93: op your write up makes sense for people who don't follow Nigeria politics. check GEJ last service chiefs, they are all from minority ethnic groups. Yar'adua/GEJ used a blend of technocrats and politicians in their government, so don't tell us that Buhari is doing any thing positively unusual. And where exactly did that style of doing things get us? Only a mad man continue to do something the same way and expect a different result. Change no be for mouth. Real "CHANGE" is a break from the past! |

Smh.
If we still insist on this marginalization talk can we ask ourselves these questions?;
Good bless The Federal Rebublic of Nigeria! Sai Buhari!
Cheers!
