Hello VO, I am 27 years old and got married early this year, my wife is currently two months pregnant. I own a little bar that am using to carter for myself and wife at the moment. I actually want to apply to a College in the US. I've discussed it with my wife and she's in support of it, but I want to gather as much information I can before I apply. I want to know my chances of being granted and likely interview questions. I know all about the sponsorship format and I already have that at the moment with me, the rest (like chances of being granted) is what I need to know. Thank you. |

richie5655: F3 is indeed a common visa category issued in Nigeria. NVC's review of the documents depends largely on the documents submitted -- if they're all in order, the document review only takes a few months. The important thing is to make sure they have the correct contact information on file, so that they can get in touch right away if there are any problems. (I know "a few months" seems like an eternity when you're the one who's waiting.) |

mcaylife: Once the I-130 is approved, the petitioner can then file the I-129F for the K3. The K3 doesn't really save you more than a month or two at best, and there are advantages to immigrating on an I-130 that are lost when someone opts for the K3. This is because, technically, the K3 is a non-immigrant visa, which means it may get you to the U.S. a bit more quickly, but the process of becoming a Legal Permanent Resident is more complicated. Up to you! |

tomyka81: There's a $265 fee that must be paid in order to be interviewed. http://nigeria.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visa_forms.html has a paragraph on instructions for K1 applicants, with links to important forms. |

Abigalbee98: It's unlikely that Nigeria will again become eligible for the Diversity Visa program. The purpose of the DV program is to diversify the immigrant population in the United States, by giving applicants, from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States in the previous five years, a chance to immigrate. So people who are born in any country that has sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the United States in the previous five years are not eligible to receive diversity Visas. (That number -- 50,000 -- was chosen in 1999, and the people who chose it were not thinking of any specific country when they chose it.) (As you know from previous posts, there are some exceptions for people with parents or spouses born in eligible countries.) So, as of this fiscal year, Nigeria is no longer eligible, because in the past five years more than 50,000 Nigerians immigrated to the United States (more than 10,000 each year). I've read rumors that Nigeria was "banned" for some reason, but those rumors are not true. It was a purely numerical decision. I doubt that Nigeria will fall below the 10,000 per year threshold any time soon, as Nigeria's workload is growing every month. But, if for some reason the number of immigrants does fall dramatically, at that point Nigeria could become eligible for the DV program again. |

Abigalbee98: To repeat, it's extremely unlikely that Nigeria will again become eligible for the Diversity Visa program. Nigeria now sends more than 10,000 immigrants each year to the U.S., and that number continues to grow. It is, technically, possible, but it is not likely. I strongly encourage you not to base your hopes for the future on the Diversity Visa program. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

I rarely post here but i had sort of a rhetorical question for the VO. My I-140 was approved in the last 2 weeks, however i have heard nothing on the I-485 that was filed concurrently (EB1B category). Its been at least 6 months now. At what point does one start anticipating the I-485 being approved? |

hajj123: The form for a spouse is the I-130. It sounds like she's going to ask you to sign the G-325a, a biographical information form. As for the documents she would need to come to Nigeria, a Nigerian embassy or consulate is the best place to ask. |

Abigalbee98: No. Bureaucrats like me are not people who use the word "never" very often. We're very careful with words. For instance, I wouldn't write that I'll never weigh 50 kg again, because technically it's possible that someday I might. But, realistically... If the number of Nigerian immigrants for some reason falls below 50,000 in a five-year period, Nigeria will again be eligible for the DV program. But that is not likely to happen. 1 Like 1 Share |
