UNIPort belongs to ministry of education. UPTH belongs to ministry of health. Uniport's health facility should be their university medical center. That it answers UPTH doesn't mean their school health fees are covered by UPTH medical services and therefore they have right to destroy the hospital's facility. So they should think before they act... My thinking. 5 Likes |

otokx: The lulu Briggs centre is good enough for first aid treatments, I'm sure lulu Briggs attendants would have felt a sense of belonging, and attended to her, at least, to stabilize her. But I understand, they thought UPTH would live up to its name. Very sad, an avoidable loss. 2 Likes |

bushdoc9919:Thank you doc for your contribution. It is unfortunate that whenever a patient dies in a hospital, the doctors and nurses are held responsible even when these health practitioners had done everything humanly possible to save these lives.I am not holding brief for the doctors and nurses who were on duty on that day.I write this as a doctor who has worked at this same Accident and Emergency in UPTH in the past.I must say that this particular A/E is a jungle and I mean it.It is one of the worst places for any health practitioner to take calls.Problems ranging from lack of materials to work with to inadequate number of personnels are some of the myriad of problems bedeviling this institution and not just the A/E.Its high time we started holding our leaders accountable for these kind of unfortunate events. The student should also express their grievances through a peaceful protest to the government house, not destroying government property the way it was alleged to have been done at the UPTH.This is an eye opener to some of us who have not realized the level of rot of our public health facilities. For a young life to be cut short is a great loss to the family and loved ones.RIP to the dead.May God give the family the fortitude to bear the loss. 8 Likes |

Dis has been d onli means of making d university know about a situation when they turn deaf ears to important tins. d onli thing I wouldnt support is destruction, but d gate should remain locked. 1 Like |

Imanuelle: Well...yes....but the problem is...first aid is a stop gap. You do it with the idea that you are going to get help within the hour....and that there is bed space. And let's be honest.....we still do not know many details about the case....such as what exactly the lady was suffering from.....eg...was she pregnant? Did she have typhoid?....and how long it took for her to get to hospital, and whether she was dead on arrival. And managing cases on the floor....you cannot do it for all cases....and at any rate...you have to have the staff available to do the needful. Which in this case was not possible.,, because there was no bed space. The Nurses and the docs in A and E were working at full capacity. If the patient had died because the doctor was busy trying to save eight other critical cases...with limited equipment and staff...you people would still complain. 3 Likes |
