The Department of State Services (DSS) has taken Sambo Dasuki, immediate past national security adviser, to court for alleged possession of unlicensed firearms.
In a statement made available to TheCable on Monday, the DSS, through its acting spokesman, said: “You may recall that on 16 July, 2015, the Department of State Services (DSS), carried out a search operation on properties belonging to the immediate past national security adviser, Mohammed Sambo Dasuki (Col/rtd), in Abuja and Sokoto.

This action was necessitated by credible intelligence which linked him to acts capable of undermining national security. The search operation led to the recovery of large cache of arms and ammunition among other things and for which further investigation was conducted.

“Consequently, on Monday 24 August, 2015, he was charged to court based on evidence so far obtained, but which relates to possession of fire arms without license punishable under section 27(i)(a)(i) of the Firearms Act Cap F28 LFN 2004. This is in line with democratic practice and our avowed commitment to the rule of law, in which nobody is deemed to be above the law no matter how highly placed in the society. Accordingly, the general public will be duly informed as the matter progresses.

The key word there is UNLICENSED FIREARMS. To fools and cohorts of the killer party, am quite certain it will still make no sense to them. Unlicensed Firearms is surely a threat to National Security and Dasuki has no right to have such. These arent just ordinarily firearms but sophisticated ones whose details were hidden from the govt of Nigeria till when his house was raided. DSS on point. Let Dasuki continue to battle that charge pending when Buhari finishes probe on purchase of firearms since 2007 which i am quite certain he will also be culpable.
Next.

Chukwumumu, u sound daft. UNLICENSED FIREARMS found with dasuki ARENT GOVT PROPERTIES. Govt doesnt know anything about those arms because they are not in her records. They are unlicensed.

Is he legally entitled to bear unlicensed firearms? Mind you, no one issues licenses for automatic weapons such as those found in his residence.

Or you think automatic weapons are like chewing sticks that anyone can own?

This is President Buhari walking the talk. Hopefully this is a primer for any subsequent charges against Dasuki.

As Jonathan's NSA, we need details on how monumental billions of naira went missing through questionable arms purchases, effectively compromising the fight against BH.

This is just the beginning.

It's just WITCH-HUNTING. Probably payback for the coup that kicked him out of office.

You charge a retired army Colonel and someone who was NSA barely 48 hours after leaving office for illegal possession of firearms!!! how dumb can a government get. Even a 100 level law student will have this case thrown out

The funny part is that those rifles were for his security detail.

‎Why do we keep embarrassing ourselves infront of the international community? As an ex NSA I'd like to think he's even more privy to things that are way more than 3 rifles. When the democrats took over power from the republicans in America, they didn't do all these nonsense‎. What Buhari is doing would make it very very hard for an incumbent party to concede power to an opposition party ever again

Chukwumumu, again the reason why he didnt handover was because he doesnt intend handling them over because those firearms arent govt properties. Unlicensed Firearms arent govt properties.

Dasuki is surely not laughing.

The fact is that the law PROHIBITS possession of unlicensed arms; as such he would still be culpable even if he was a serving officer carrying illegal arms.
at d end they will only fine him, then the case will just die

These ones are allowed to carry some forms of arms but they are all licensed arms to ensure accountability.
In dasukis case, they were unlicensed, Govt before the raid never knew such arms were in the country. That is the culpability of dasuki.
