You pay/ask/beg someone to babysit or nanny your child. A parent can't 'babysit or nanny' their own child. So a father is simply taking care of his child when the mother is not around is the same way the mother does when the dad is not around. I also used to say 'hubby is babysitting the kids' but someone brought the use of the word to my attention. Granted some mums(to be fair some dads too) tend to be more reluctant to be away from their children for extended periods ( I know i say I can't wait to offload them but after 3 days am missing their wahala ) but a child or anyone forms a bond with someone they spend one on one time with.how y'all gonna bond with your kids if you don't want to spend one on one time with them? 1 Like |

cococandy:Seriously when I see the number of women on the streets of Naija with babies strapped to their backs and perhaps pulling another by the hand and a tray of groundnut or a bowl of sachet water on their heads, another in the market place with baby on the back while pushing a wheel barrow of this or that under the scorching sun. Then you come online to see men claiming they can't take care of their own babies because they work for the upkeep of their family, it beats my imagination. So the women who work or do business and still take care of the babies are now fools? I don't even want to go into the fact that most of these men who claim to be too busy to take care of their children are actually being fed and cared for by their wives If they are actually providing for their families as they want us to believe, those women should be at home or more conducive places doing their business with those children and not under the sun. Real men work for their families' upkeep and still have time for their kids. You suggested they should sell the kids, incase they don't find buyers, I suggest they sow the kids as seed of faith in their churches 12 Likes 1 Share |

Na side eye I dey use look anyone who says that rubbish on this forum. They are insincere and mischievous. You're talking of the market place. Go to the civil service sectors and private companies, banks and what have you and see that working class women are of the same proportion if not more than the men. Yet somehow they all believe the wives are all dependent. Sow the children as seed? Lol those churches need money. . SalC: 2 Likes |

damiso:you are right about the babysitting word usage. One can't 'nanny' a child though, regardless of who the person is, because nanny is a noun and not a verb. Some men only bond with their friends, mistresses and bottles of beer. Why would they try to bond with their kids, when the African society sees it as an unmanly thing to do? We still have a long way to go. 6 Likes |

SalC: Lol. Funny comment. The thing is based on your comment, If men are seen with their baby strap to their back in market, office environment and other places, the first question people will ask is where is the wife of this man? Peculiar question Africans will ask. |

Oahray: You are right jare. I wanted to use hire a nanny. Don't mind me I was speaking the OP's English. Spending time with your children is not necessarily a 'cultural ' construct don't mind all these people hiding behind 'African culture'. In the past life was communal and so even mothers had multitudes of people who were more than willing to take the children when she was not available but as life gets more urbanised and families become increasingly nuclear who else will take care of your child but you? Don't mind all these ego talks joor all these brothers will push pram taya if they live in the west and have to fork out £40 if their wife just needs to go out for 4 hours. Its because they think have one mother or sisters around that they are talking about one yeye ego.grandmas of these days are not smiling o dem sef wan chop their own life than to become your baby sitter 3 Likes |

5minsmadness:...abi 0, 5 mins. You too have the type that thinks nobody can look after the child like she can? Always raising an eyebrow at my unique "manparenting" methodology She went on a 5 day residential course once. Always calling, constant face-timing. We'd be playing our special "gbosa" wrestling game, F/T, just sitting down to eat F/T, we'd be in the middle of having water games in the bath, F/T. And I rarely keep my phone to hand. Kilode gan sef Even small things like calling the baby carrier a holster? Slightly late nappy changes or not feeding to the second. Proper helicopter mum. I can't even tell her half the escapades we have when she's not around - she'd like faint . TV 3 Likes |

TV01: I just had this feeling I don't hear half of it and nobody would tell, so I had to install a CCTV in the house so I can see every damn thing that goes on in the house. And the app is right there on my phone so I get to see it all from anywhere on this planet It's just that I rarely have the chance to playback everything I miss Of course, my husband thinks I am paranoid but I remind him of my 9 month journey 2 Likes |

5minsmadness: you are not serious Letting them slide from the stairway kwa and I'm sure the kids will be enjoying it until they hear "gbam" on their head And they'll come running to mummy Of course I had to get a CCTV, but of course, it's for the nannies and co. |

As usual, the paranoid ediots have to make it a he versus she argument. The OP clearly asks if the husband would bring a nanny to the home or drop the kids of at a sitter's. Thread has been derailed to slay fathers reluctant to care for their kids. Too many women with daddy issues in this forum. Weep not women. You can make up for your fatherlessness by marrying the perfect man. 1 Like |

Timbuktou:It's the "Equalisers" . Anything a man does, a woman must be able to do. And in the same way, with the same outcomes. No thought given to the moral value, and totally ignoring any biological or physical drivers. And if the women can't do it, men must stop doing it or change it so that they can. Although they pass where it is risky, dangerous or otherwise unglamorous. Everything must be equalised. If it means changing the language, so be it, denying reality, so be it, re-writing the bible, so be it, getting mad at God - He must be challenged about His sexism and heteronormative bigotry - so be it. They are fun to watch na, and there's no end of laughs yanking their "angry" chains. Allow o jare ! TV 1 Like |
