I know, right??
I pounded ground egusi with onions and dadawa till the egusi began releasing it's own oil, then I dropped them in balls into the boiling stock. Don't turn for a while. Then when it boils for say 10 mins, add your vegetable. And Vóila!!

Iru in yoruba or dadawa in hausa is similar to ogiri in Igbo. It's fermented locust beans

I beg to differ on this. Iru is dawadawa/locust bean, but is not ogiri.
Here's an image of dawadawa and a definition for Ogiri... totally different.

Ogiri is a flavoring made of fermented oil seeds, such as sesame seeds or egusi seeds. The process and product are similar to iru or douchi.

So this picture is iru?

Haha I've this thing in my freezer since and I didn't know what to make with it. My aunt gave it to me with some dried fish a while ago.
Time to go fish it out.

Thanks.
