Hi VO,
Assuming a CR-1 visa expires on the 10th of september, and the immigrant intends leaving for the U.S in December,is there any provision to reprint the visa before it expires so as to extend it's validity to December?

Hello VO

Please i have an interview appointment for Sept. 23rd.

Is it going to be cancelled due to the upcoming Muslim holiday? Not sure if the holiday is on the 23rd or 24th.

N.B I wasn't sent a cancellation mail though.

Hi VO

Thanks for the good job you've been doing..

I hope I'm not going to irk you by asking this question that you probably had answered before.. I would just like to know if I need to come with a filled financial affidavit of support form for my K1 visa interview. I also will like to know what happens if we can't get it notarized before the interview even when it's ready.

Some said the affidavit of support is only needed for AOS. I'm a bit confused.

Thank you.

Hi VO,

I intend to apply for a US tourist visa this month in order for me to travel over there to visit a friend for Christmas. I will be covering the cost of my tickets and would stay in my friend's apartment during my stay for two weeks. I will be a first time applicant, and can you please provide information on what information I need to get ready to present during the interview to be successfully granted a visa.

I had intended to book and pay for the round-trip tickets in advance, but a friend did say I shouldn't do that before getting the visa. Your advice is urgently needed please.

CR and IR visas can be replaced until the end of the fiscal year following the date of issuance -- in your example, until September 30, 2016. The visa holder would need to pay the $325 fee again and replace any expired documents, such as the medical paperwork. Hope this helps.

If the holiday does fall on that date, yes, the appointment will be rescheduled. I don't think we'll know for sure until very close to the date, though.

Don't worry, I'm generally only irked if the same person asks the same question several times in a row hoping for an answer he or she likes better than the one I gave a couple days ago. smiley

We do need a signed affidavit of support, but it doesn't need to be notarized. The form for K interviews is the I-134.

AOS stands for affidavit of support, and refers to both the I-134 and the I-864. Again, Ks take the I-134.

Good luck!

This is technically a question for the non-immigrant visa thread, but it's also exactly the kind of question we don't answer. Just tell the truth, and if you qualify for a visa, you'll get a visa.

Actually... let me go ahead and add that you can't use a B1/B2 visa to immigrate to the United States. If you want to use the B1/B2 visa to immigrate, you don't qualify for the B1/B2 visa.

Thank you so much. That was a quick response, VO.. I'm so so impressed. Thank you.

Meanwhile, can I bring a scanned copy to the interview as my fiancee is in the US, and I'm here in Nigeria. We met in London in June but I didn't know the AOS will be needed. We thought it was only needed for adjustment of status.

Thank you so much. I like ur sense of humor too.. I have always thought VOs were like some Thriller movie characters.. hehe

Hi VO.. Hw r u doing ds hour?

It's me again.. *grin*!

I have an interview for the 11th of Sept but I put my intended date of travel as Dec. 15th because I'm a doctor working with some primary health centre and I'm trying to help with some outreach programs till November. Does this have any 'not-so-nice' effect on my standing @ d interview? We plan to marry in January. Am I in order? Lol

Also, I was denied a B1/B2 visa in 2013 when I was trying to visit my present fiancee.. the VO I met then was nice, and she explained the visit has some romantic link.. so, she wld be refusing! Does this spell bad for my K1 interview next week?

Thanks for the patience and honesty! God bless you much!

I'm no longer in Lagos, so I can't say whether your request would be granted or when the case would be scheduled. Making the request might slow the case down a little if the request is denied, but probably in terms of days, not weeks.

Ohhh... adjustment of status, AOS! Now I get it. Sorry for the confusion! (I don't deal often with adjustment of status, since I work overseas instead of in the U.S.)

You can bring a scanned copy in the meantime, but the officer may ask you for an originally signed document.

I kind of like the way visa officers are portrayed in the musical "Chess," but it would be fun to be in a thriller....

Your travel makes perfect sense -- no need to worry about that. And in a way your previous refusal can be seen as evidence of your relationship. So it won't have an adverse effect at all!

Hello Dearest VO,
Trust you're splendid Ma.

Please I have a troubling question Ma.
I just got an F1 visa few weeks back and yet to travel to the US.
The issue is, my boyfriend whom I intend to get married to eventually (as we just discovered we're one month pregnant) is insisting we get married at the registry even before I leave cos he says he doesn't want to takes chances or gamble with his heart and future.

Pls Ma will it be a problem for me or even him (cos I intend to file for him later), if I go ahead and marry him at the registry now before entering the US or should I insist on going to the US first and then coming back for us to get married as planned initially?
He has made it clear I should forget him if I insist on traveling first.

Pls help me out of this dilemma as am almost loosing it!
Thanks.

Hello VO,

I got married this year and my wife who is a permanent resident filed for me to come join her. My questions are:

1. How long will the filing process take?

2. Can I apply for visiting visa while the filing is on going?

Thanks in anticipation of your response.

Good morning! The F1 visa is strictly for unmarried persons. If you get married before you enter the United States, one of two things will happen. First, if immigration officials find out that you are married, you may not be allowed to enter the U.S. You'd be turned away until your case becomes current in your proper visa category, F3 (married children of U.S. citizens).

If you manage to enter without telling anyone about your change in marital status, and then file for your spouse, the facts will come out when you apply for citizenship, and you will probably not be allowed to naturalize. So you'll be an LPR forever, subject to deportation if you break the law, unable to file for your siblings or parents.

Don't let him pressure you. Think it through and make the decision that's right for you.

Your visa category will be F2A, so the important thing is the date of filing. Right now, F2A petitions filed on or before March 1, 2014, are eligible to be scheduled for interviews. You are free to apply for a non-immigrant visa in the meantime.

Hi the indefatigable VO, it's been a while I talked on this forum. How are you enjoying your new assignment? I always pray for you encounter joy in your endeavors as you have impacted so much on this forum. My question goes thus:When is the new bulletin coming out? I have been waiting patiently as my wife filed for me on Nov 2014 . my petition got approved may 2015 and I got a letter with a case number LGS 2015662....... On June 29,2015. Waiting for further instructions from NVC. My concerns is that on the approved letter sent to me they indicated May 05,2015 as priority date whereas I think my priority date should be November 2014 the petition was filed. Pls enlighten me more on this. Thank you.

Good morning CO,

I am a US petitioner for my Nigerian husband and we are currently at the NVC stage of processing. All documents have been submitted and I expect a case complete any day.

My husband has lived in a couple different countries and we had to secure Police Clearance certificates from those countries. Malawi proved to be the most expensive - $400. In addition to the exorbitant fee, we had to send the money via Western Union and trust that the Sergeant we were dealing with wouldn't run off with our money. In the end, he did his country proud by processing our application and issuing the Police Clearance certificate. However, once my husband received the certificate, we found that it was LAMINATED. My question is will this certificate be accepted at the interview in Lagos in its laminated state? We do not have another $400 to pay for a new certificate and it was mailed to my husband laminated.

Please advise.

Thank you,

Mar

Good day Vise Officer, could you please give me a possible clue to what could be holding up the issuing of my visa. My interview was on Aug'21, i was told to pick up the visa the following Friday, but until this date, there's no update and the visa isn't ready for pick up. Could it be mere delay or something is wrong? Please, your reply would be appreciated.
