criminalmindz: friends and colleagues from every part of the nation and some of my best friends are not even from my side of the country.
However, recent events are making me to have a deeper reflection and I wish we- Southerners in this instance- can have some kind of introspection. Out of 25 appointments made so far, 18 are from the North, 3 are from the South West, 4 are from the South South while the South East has ZERO appointments. A tweet which I saw today stated that “southerners are only competent when it’s time for elections but northerners are competent in terms of governance” and this made the following thoughts run through my mind:
1. Only Southerners have been accusing fellow Southerners of corruption. Oshiomole has been attacking Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as if Ngozi turned down his marriage proposal. The same Oshiomole tried to make nonsense of Akinwumi Adeshina’s successes in the agriculture sector. Ambode tried to pull Fashola down and successfully smeared him with stains. Maybe that’s why Fashola did not get the Chief of Staff role. I’m yet to see a Northerner accuse another Northerner of corruption, even when they belong to different parties. The closest a Northerner got was when the new Kano State Governor attacked Rabiu Kwankaso but he quickly sheathed his sword and even disowned previous reports of attacks. Why are we like this?
2. Are Southerners the only ones who are corrupt? Were there no northerner heading the ministries and parastatals? Did the outgone Comptroller-General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko not have an alleged case of certificate forgery but he still served out his tenure until he resigned voluntarily? I’m not in support of corruption under any guise but the fight against corruption must not be seen to be sectional.
3. How come it’s easier for the President to believe that Sanni Abacha was not corrupt in spite of recovered loot while it is so easy for him to believe Goodluck Jonathan is irredeemably corrupt?
4. I still remember that aside from God, Tinubu made Tambuwal what he is today. The same Tambuwal would later call Femi Gbajabiamila ‘incompetent’ and rated Dogara as more competent. The same Tambuwal was propped up by Tinubu, a Southerner against a fellow Southerner, Mulikat Akande. Obasanjo was very key to denying Goodluck Jonathan a second term. A good number can still recall how OBJ tore his PDP membership card in public glare. The Northerners find it easy to support themselves but we are always pulling ourselves down. Babangida Aliyu, Sule Lamido and all the other Northern Governors including the former PDP Chairman Adamu Muazu often times refused to campaign for Goodluck Jonathan openly and many times even espoused the virtues of the opposing candidate on the rostrum!
5. Southern leaders and Presidents pull down Southern business men but prop up Northern ones. How many people still remember how Obasanjo ran Mike Adenuga out of town but both Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan made Aliko Dangote what he is today. No northern leader goes against their own. I dare to put it on record that President Buhari will never go against Aliko Dangote for any reason.
6. How come OBJ pardoned Salisu Buhari, the ex-Speaker who forged his credentials and he later was given an appointment as a Governing Council member of a University and heavens did not fall- but when Goodluck Jonathan pardoned Alamieyeseigha it became one of the major issues counted against him? Is there one rule for some and another rule for others?
7. We find it easy to raise our voices in support of the deportation of Buruji Kashamu but have no qualms with Atiku Abubakar strutting around the corridors of power.
8. Only Southerners find it so easy to abuse their elders when they voice opinions not in tandem with the popular opinion. We find it easy to diss Afenifere elders and call them ‘Afenifebi’ while hurling expletives and curses at them. We even abuse our kings and priests. Northerners will never abuse an Emir no matter how unpopular what he said is. Can you imagine any Northerner raising his voice against the Sultan? In spite of Tanko Yakassai, Balarabe Musa and Dangiwa Umar’s perceived support for Jonathan, northern youths did not abuse them. But our own youths run down our elders on social media while our educated elite also support the act.
These are some of the thoughts that have been running through my mind. I don’t pretend to have all the answers and I do this at the risk of being labelled an ethnic bigot. The point however is that Southerners have to get their acts right. We have to put our house in order. The bickering must stop. Let’s engage our emotional intelligence. Let’s not allow others to exploit our tendency to self-destruct.
brilliant observation. I think you should open a thread for this interesting piece.

Re: Lopsided Appointments: Northern Elders Release List Of Jonathan’s Appointees by jamace(m): 12:10pm On Sep 06, 2015 |
There is this deliberate attempt by a section of the North to justify the "Northocratic" appointments by Muhammadu Buhari. It is on record that 8 of the 9 appointments made by Buhari are Northerners. To justify the ethnocratic act of the President, some persons selectively and maliciously singled out a few positions held by Southerners under Jonathan to justify Buhari's Northocratism. Nigeria FG has over 500 Departments and Agencies that one can't be listing all of them at a go. However, I took my time and painstakingly singled out some Ministries and Agencies and listed the heads of these agencies plus their geopolitical zone. NATIONAL ECONOMYChairman National Planning Commission- Namadi Sambo(North) Min of National Planning- Shamshudeen Usman (North) Finance Minister- Okonjo Iwaela (South) MD National Deposit Insurance Commission- Alj Umaru Ibrahim (North) Commissioner National Insurance Commission -Fola Daniel (SW) DG Sec Exchange Commission - Aruma Otteh (South) Mounir H. The Attorney General under Jonathan Muhammed Adoke is a Northerner. A cursory look at Jonathan's appointment will convince any doubter that the North were one of the major beneficiaries. It is unfair for a section of the North to propagate falsehood in their bid to justify the Northocratic appointments of President Buhari. I will be glad to entertain anyone that can name ANY sector that GEJ marginalised the North. These two were included in the list because as long as they are minorities and Christians they do not count as northerners to the Hausa Fulanis.
Meanwhile Jonathan appointed or left in place more northerners than southerners 1 Like |

From ur write up, its obvious that the yeerobas are the problems of the South right from creation. Remove them from the South u will discover the southern part of this country is the best place to be. GEJ lost the election to a PMB because of this same tribe... Stop whipping up destructive sentiments. We don't need solidarity or unity of the south just in order to protect the corruption of a few because everybody pays the price. I want corruption to stop in my State so that the resources can be used for the development of my State. If the man from Kano decides to keep quiet that is his business. Tell me how does it benefit a vulcanizer in Uyo if Godswill Akpabio is jailed for corruption but Rabiu Kwakwanso is not. Is Godswill Akpabio going to give the vulcanizer part of his loot? These divide and rule argument is sponsored by the corrupt elite in order to give their corruption a free pass, and unfortunately the gullible readers here are buying it as valid argument. . Half-baked education is a disease. In other words, as far as you are concerned, Godswill Akpabio can be jailed for corruption while equally corrupt Rabiu Kwankwaso moves freely. Some of you were born with slave mentality inbuilt. Note: Official Corruption in Nigeria is bred and fed by the increasingly monstrous unitary government system. The system is such that the leaders are far detached from the led, hence the electorate cannot get accountability from the leaders. Are you among the nugus being deceived by the present government with the slogan of fight against corruption? As Abacha family was returning Abacha loots, so far totalling about $1.2 billion, Buhari pronounced that Abacha was not corrupt. 5 Likes |

Ur on point, nice piece of work u have here, overwiseness and lack of trust is killing us here in the southern parts, thereby allowing the north to use us as the wished,I educated and enlightened a fellow Igbo people that out of Yoruba people and Hausa people, that the Yoruba are more useful and better to lgbos/other southern parts than core northerners, my reasons are as follows (1) lgboes and others can take Yoruba lands especially Lagos as homes, co habiting with them peaceful, born and bred up among them, thereby seeing each others as one, intermingling without barriers, same thing applicable to Yoruba people that found themselves in other southern parts of Nigeria lives born, bred their children that the grow to co habit peacefully and intermingle unhindered that most children and adults hardly visits their home of origin and can't speak their mother tongues, especially Igbo born and bred in Lagos this days, but opposite is the case in the northern parts, they are always after killing of southerners, that being born and bred there don't make a sense,u always know u are a foreigner in or country. (2) Southern people has the major cog of income to the running of Nigeria as a nation financially, taxes from Lagos and Ogun state, including the seaports, borders and airport bring big chunks to federal purse, east brings in taxes from nnewi, onitsha ,aba ,while lmo and abia state contribute oil proceeds, south South brings in oil proceeds, while core north doesn't bring the major the major chunks, but contribute minor chunks. (3)Core Northern states detest local and foreign investors at present due to issues of violence imbibed in their cultures and boko haram menace, while investments goes in droves to Lagos ,Ogun and other southern states, contributing to financial well off of Nigeria which they core northern states also share in the finance, if every southern states are infested with culture of violence and bokoharam, then we are finished as a country like Afghanistan and Somalia, lrak. (4)Yoruba's and others Nigeria state minus the core north, encourage Nigeria brewerys and other acholics brand in Nigeria and other foreign alcoholic wines and liquors in their business, eg most and chadom, henessy,Jack Daniels etc,in social life of entertainment thereby bringing income to government, also encouraging our music stars like psquare, dbanj, wizkid, flavour etc in running shows in southern States, without going core north, musicians smiling to banks and paying their tax, event hosters also doing the same, but we all share the money from Federal purse. (5)finally yorubas and other southern state people are always bringing inventions and innovations individually in Nigeria and overseas, breaking and setting academics records to the credit of the country. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Northerners are so selfish and self centered.
The Number of Northern appointments made GEJ was more than he made of the South. It's so stupid of them to Isolate the Northern appoints here.
Well, I don't care who Buhari appoints or does not appoint. I never supported him. I never voted for him.
Let those who did worry
U lost pazz everyone. |

chukwudi44: See GEJ's northern appointments below What I have gathered from your list and OP's list is that there are still many positions to be filled. So why the fuss? Also, some of the people on both lists are still occupying their posts and haven't been relieved of their positions yet. Again, what's the fuss? #performanceovertribe |

Evaromantik: Can You see how daftminded these senilegone northern elders are........so because GEJ was the trailblazer to such mistake, they the APC will indulge in that same mistake.......so where is the change you claim to come along with oh APC apes Is not the issue of someone is tribalistic here.......what you should understand is president is at liberty to choose people he trust and believe they share the same vision.....this is the priority......when GEJ made his appointment northerners allowed them to work until they failed no body supported them again. |

From ur write up, its obvious that the yeerobas are the problems of the South right from creation. Remove them from the South u will discover the southern part of this country is the best place to be.
GEJ lost the election to a PMB because of this same tribe... Atimes I ask mysef where those pple actually came from? Islam has since joined the Yoruba with north of Nigeria. But when Biafrans who understand this clamour the more for Biafra, some mofos from southsouth don't understand. |

Yeah! a northerner has never been wrong in their own eyes! Nobody has ever talked about ATIKU ill gotten wealth that he gathered when obasanjo was traveling round the world in the name of privatization, he was the chairman of the privatization then, TY Danjuma is another man that have some explanation to do, so many evidence against Farouk Lawal and the man is walking free today, even El Rufai who used his position as the FCT Minister to gather wealth is claiming to be saint now! to make the matter worst this people will come and attacked you if you are excelling in the north as a non northerner , burn your property and kill you.
look at the fulani herds men today as seen as saint with all their killings.
i think EL rufai , Atiku, Ty Danjuma should declare their asset! 1 Like |

criminalmindz: friends and colleagues from every part of the nation and some of my best friends are not even from my side of the country.

The last I checked, I commented on positive and/or fair article. Still finding it difficult to believe my plight to quote an unrepentant/clueless bigot. Just a correction not an insult. ZeroSumxxx:

This noise about North and South is getting very boring. GEJ appointed his southern People fine! PMB is appointing his Nothern Brothers, ok! But one group of people have been totally forgotten. Each time we scream North and South, we forget that there are six geopolitical zones in Nigeria and that the NORTH-CENTRAL ZONE or MIDDLE BELT is actually a zone on its own with little affinity to the other northern zones. In the din of the noise about northern appointments, everybody forgets that PMB has only been appointing people from the north-eastern and north-western zones. After reading this post, i am tempted to say Nigeria is not one. I wonder how you lots supporting and defending GEJ and PMB will feel if a Tiv man from Benue state becomes president and appoints only Tiv people to his kitchen cabinet. I bet we will have a full-blown war then. I think its high time we "northern" or central Nigerian minorities stand up and let our voice be heard. By the way, i am becoming tired of being called a Northerner, for christ's sakes we are in the middle of Nigeria!!! |

BetaThings:
Actually the SE has aligned with the North more than the SW 1960 - 1966 - Balewa and Zik (PM and Gov General/President) 1979 - 1983 - NPN and NPP alignment - President (NW), VP (SE), Senate (SS) and House of Reps (SE) 1999 to date - SE has mostly voted PDP along with North (anambra has been the consistent exception and Imo since 2011) , SW has mostly voted opposition. But they voted for the party at the centre/Jonathan in 2011 This is the first time that core SW states are being mostly ruled by same party as the one at the centre (Ekiti and Ondo are still under PDP) Hhm, this is the difference between those who know history and those who choose to distort it. |
