How much is the fee? if it less than 3k then it shouldn't be stopped! Tertiary institutions are not well funded and he is still blocking one of their sources of revenue?

If he thinks the funds are not well managed, why not put strict measures to ensure that the funds are well utilized?

Kx:

But wait a minute.
Do the state institutes remits the forms processing fees to the state govt account? I think the answer is No.
Does the government provide grants and other running costs to the state institutes be it OPEX or CAPEX? The answer is yes.
So, who manages the revenue accruing from forms sale, forms processing, pre and post admission imposes fees without govt appropriation?

I score Sai El rufaya 10/10 with this move.

Who's the visitor of the Institutions? The governor
Who decides the school fees and other fees? The governing council
Who appoints the governing council? The state government
Does the state government control fees paid by these institutions? Absolutely

So what makes you think the state government isn't aware these admission fees are imposed without government approvals? When chairman of governing council is an appointee of the governor. and so are other members of council.

These fees are internally generated revenue from these institutions which the government is well aware of. The government as a matter of fact encourages IGR from this institutions to be used in supplementing whatever subventions they get from the government which is usually not enough.

My argument goes thus - What's the probability that the government will increase the subventions to these institutions to cover for these IGR they wouldn't be getting from applications fees amidst the fall in revenues to the state government?

The probability of that happening is very close to zero

I wish he was the president instead of clueless Buhari.

This guy should serve out Buhari's second four years. He knows what governance is about

Yes but he helped himself and Akitu steal a lot of Nigeria's privatized assets when he was the DG of BPE.

Nigerians are too quick to forget and that is why high level stealing has been going on for decades, and then forgotten.

So why demanding such money?

Of course they do.. Lemme use the simplest of examples

During the post Utme exams Which has become CBT in virtually all tertiary institutions, these institutions usually contract some technical firms to help them optimize the online registrations and help them administer the tests online.. The venues of these tests are hooked up with constant electricity through out the duration of these tests. Lectures and staff that serve as invigilators will be given a honorarium. same as the security guards and extra police patrols deployed for the tests.

All these are achieved using the 1000 or 2000 naira applicants are asked to pay. I know that some of these monies are embezzled but the subvention these institutions get from the government isn't enough and these IGR go a long way in helping them solve some little problems..

80%? where did you get that number from?

where do you want them to get the money to fund the post UTME from? From the inadequate subventions given to them by the government?

Shut up! For you to apply into Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma, you need to purchase the form with about N8,000 and after you're admitted, your acceptance fee would be N40,000 plus school fees which is about 40-48K. So if a Governor decides to tell Students not to pay N48,000 out of N83,000, the Governor has not still tried? What if you go to the rehab to see a Psychiatrist?!

This your comment shows how they take you for a ride.

They divide the fees for you one after the other and call it different names.
Re: El-Rufai Abolishes Admission Fees In State Owned Tertiary Institutions by OlujobaSamuel: 3:59am On Sep 10, 2015
kudos, federal government should follow suit because this moneys are shared by the management without any going to the government purse and they even determine the price of such form without consideration, e.g. OAU selling putme form for 3500 and selling result checker for same amount, why can't I just check the result on the account I created with the registration card for free. Most of our elites are the one killing us, they tell us they are not politicians, yet they formulate self-serving policy for the politicians to implement.
