Geographical Distribution Of Occupation In Igboland by Nobody: 9:22pm On Sep 09, 2015 |
Many believe that Igbos are into trading but handiworks but most doesn't know that many parts of Igboland doesn't have traders atall. To some Igbos sell electronics but observant Igbos know those that dominate the electronic markets, these also are applicable to banking, military, auto industry, transportation and other areas of human endeavors. There are Igbo communities that are predominantly traders, there are Igbo communities that are predominantly civil servants and are doing well in the private sector alike. Below is list of Igbo regions, states, towns and the nature of occupations they are known forn these towns don't have sizeble number of their people doing the business but they dominate both importation and manufacturing of the local brands inorder to exert their authority and ownership over the businesses. Some Igbo areas could be excluded because am not trying to sound encyclopedic but some Igbo areas are new entrants into the system so their escapades wouldn't be that noticeable. , Igbo areas and their occupation distribution. Western Igbos comprising Anioma people iin Delta State, Onitsha, Ogbaru, Aguleri all in Anambra are predominantly whitecollar people, the work mostly in the private sector and civil service. Their private sector marks are in banking like Zenith, UBA, Chike Obis, Ziks, Asikas, et al, they are also good in music and farming - they don't trade, despite Onitsha having the largest market in West Africa and one of the highest concentration of markets in Africa you rarely see an Onitshaman who is a trader, these people are whitecollar people. Nnewi own auto spare parts in Nigeria, out of 10 in Nigeria selling spare parts 5 must be Nnewi. Aluminum is own by Azia people of Ihiala LGA of Anambra State. Super Markets and bakery are the main business of Agulu people in Anambra State. Bicycle and bicycle parts are dominated by Awka Etitit people. Blacksmith is dominated by Awka people. Building Materials are dominated by Ezinifite, Ihitenansa, Osumeyi, Amichi, Ukpor and Akwaihedi. Cloth (jeans) are dominated by Okija people. Patent medicine are dominated by Orlu, Mbano both in Imo State and Nando in Anambra State. Wall Curtains is dominated by Abriba/Ohafia people. Electrical and electronics are dominated by Osumeyi, Ezinifite, Amichi, Ihitenansa. Nkanu, Nkerefi, Nnara, Akpugo people of Enugu dominated the butchery and foodstuff businesses. Akokwa people in Igbo State own Breakable plates and cooking wares. Timber is own by Ogidi, Ekwulobia and Oko people. Transportation is dominated by Nnewi North and South people. Basket making is own by Uli, Amorka and Mgbidi people. Rice is the birthright of Abakiliki people of Ebonyi State. Military has it place around Isikwuato and Ovim in Abia State. Entertainment is for Mbaise and Owerri people of Imo State. Caveat: the list is not absolute but am 70% sure those listed areas control and dominate those lines of businesses and occupation listed above having been around them and interact with notable people in those lines of business. Trading in Igboland is not done by everybody, Anambra Northerners are not traders just like Aniomas but Anambra South and Central have great number of both traders and non traders alike. In Imo State many towns don't trade and rarely travel far like others but some areas are deep in trade like some areas in Anambra. Abia people trade and mainly into crafts but they are not as migratory as some part Anambras and Imo State. Enugu trade but are yet to dominate chains of businesses though they are migratory as well, Ebonyi people trade also but they are new entrants into the family but they own the service sector in Igboland, agric sector as well but not big time business people. This is random research, you contribute and chip in some corrections where the need arises because this is a personal verdict. Igbo makaa nu 3 Likes 1 Share |
