Could This Be Akpabio's Reasons For His Latest Medical Tourism? by Eziachi: 6:22pm On Sep 10, 2015 |
OWNERS OF SURGICAL EQUIPMENT RETRIEVE EVERYTHING FROM HOSPITAL THE PROJECT WAS ONLY 60% COMPLETED WHEN AKPABIO COMMISSIONED IT – SITE ENGR. IF THEY COULD PLAY POLITICS ON MATTERS OF LIFE AND DEATH, THEN…… – DR AKPAN Akwa Ibom state has gone a level deeper in the cesspit of lies and deception which has been the hallmark of the state government in recent times as a shocking revelation has made its way into public domain showing that indigenes of the state where scammed to believing the claim by Ex-Governor Akpabio and the Present Governor, Udom Emmanuel that the 21st anniversary hospital was fully ready for commencement of provision of healthcare and open heart surgeries. The Guide Newspaper team of editors who visited the hospital during the week can as part of routine investigative newsgathering can authoritatively report that the only thing left of newly commissioned hospital are plastic chairs as all the surgical equipment which was shown on the media during the formal commissioning of the hospital were nowhere to be found in the hospital blocks. The visit by our team of editors brought out the shocking revelation that contrary to the claims by former Governor Godswill that the hospital was ready to open its doors to the public for the purpose of healthcare delivery, more than one-third of the hospital was still under construction while another part was getting remedial work due to a dangerous crack on the wall as revealed by the workers. Inside the wards and the various units, only a few plastic chairs covered by dust were scattered around even in the cardiology unit with no open heart surgical equipment found. Oneof the construction Engineers who spoke to our team of editors on the condition of strict anonymity disclosed that the part of the building facing Ikot Ekpene had cracked dangerously due to the fact that Governor Akpabio had ignored the advice of the company that the period for the commissioning be moved forward as job needed more time to set properly before the much pressure was introduced to it. “This part you are seeing, is the part that had cracked and we are almost concluding remedial job on it to see how we can manage the crack. I don’t believe that this is our fault as I have gathered that our oga had pleaded with the Governor of the state back then to shift forward the date of commissioning to allow the day and night job we did some weeks before the commissioning to set properly. You see, this project had been unfortunate as the funds that were meant for it had always been lost in transit. This project like I am told was awarded since 2007. I was moved from Abuja to this project in 2010. As you saw behind, there are still about 35 per cent of jobs to be done on this site” Checks by the Guide Newspaper revealed that ex-Governor Akpabio had budgeted the sum of 4.1 billion naira for the purchase of hospital equipment for the hospital and had even announced on the day of commissioning that Government had imported every single equipment needed for the immediate take-off of the hospital, days after the commissioning. It was gathered that the project was one of the many projects which the former governor had used to siphon Akwa Ibom state funds as successive budgetary allocations for the project does not reflect on the current state of the hospital which is almost in ruins. In the meantime, a retired cardiologist who has had a robust practice in Abuja Dr Julius Akpan has reacted to the news that the former Governor Chief Godswill Akpabio and the present Governor Udom Emmanuel had colluded to deceive people of the state on the true condition of the hospital, stressing that it was heartbreaking that Government could descend to the pathetic situation of lying about an issue of life and death. Speaking in his Shelter Afrique residence on Thursday even, Dr Akpan said “Honestly I would not have had cause to comment on this issue if it were a mere political issue. But then this is a health issue. The present government understands that the state had been faced with the urgent need for the expansion of medical facilities in the state. Even while I was in working in London before moving back to Abuja here in Nigeria, I was part of the people drafted to consult for the state government for the project on matters of cardiology. I told the former Governor who was the Governor back then that the project would have significant impact on the lives of the people since the only tertiary healthcare facility in the state – the University of Uyo teaching Hospital was not even functioning optimally and was even with its shortcomings overpopulated with patients. Do you realize how many people have died due to the inability of the few doctors there to effectively handle the many cases that throng in to the hospital on a daily basis? So when the Government pleaded that I form part of the advisory team, I didn’t hesitate because I saw it as an opportunity to help cater for the health needs of the people. We and other members of the advisory committee as well as the Governor were meant to meet with the contractors who were drafted to provide the equipment we had earlier listed for the hospital by January this year in preparation of the commissioning but nothing like that happened. I was surprised to see little equipment on Television on the day of the commissioning, but atleast I was happy that the hospital will soon open its doors. But few months when the hospital didn’t begin operations, I began to ask questions only to be told that the small equipment I saw was not even owned by the Government but were hired. I was so heartbroken. That a government that should be concerned about the lives of the citizenry whose mandate they hold, is shamelessly playing politics with people’s lives. If they could play politics with such an issue that involves life and death, then there is no point having a government in the first place!” |

pedel: South south people keep shooting themselves on the foot because of hate for Buhari. It looks like some people's brains are screwed upside down. Buhari's probe is to help you all so that when you get to Biafra you will have enough money to spend on projects. So that emperors in your states would have learnt a lesson. 4 Likes |
