Have her carry copies of your visa (stamped if u have visited the states previously) and data page, copies of your wife's hospital n ob/gyn correspondence as well as your bank balance (if you re sponsoring).

She's gonna be taking care of her dota n grand kids given work/whatever may not allow you to stay with them the whole time.

just prepare her well.

Olokings: Yes I was in states from July 31st - August 16th and thank you very much, how about her own statement of account. Yes I am the one sponsoring but as it stands now I can't be able to print my statement of account as I am far from Nija and will not be coming back soon, Can she sponsor herself with her own statement of account

Hi,
In as much she can sponsor herself, I think it's a possibility for you to email your statement as a pdf file wch can be printed. ..
All a plus.
My take though

U can apply for ur statements of account to be printed in a particular branch and put a remark as regards d person picking it up.

I kno Gtbank and 1st bank does that.

I doubt any US notary public will agree to notarise for you before baby is born as it is against the law.

You have two options. You can notarise at a notary public immediately you get back into Naija, before baby is born and send to wifey to fill in the dates when baby is born.

Or if you guys have enough time, you just wait till baby is born and go to the embassy/notary public.

Yes, the embassy one is walk in, walk out. No biggie. Don't forget to book an appointment before going.

Note that not all states accept the one done by notary public but all accept the embassy's. So check with the state your wife will be birthing in.

Ok, thanks. My wife is using Brooklyn Hospital Centre as it's about 5 minutes walk from my sister's place.

Brooklyn Hospital Centre is not a birthing center, it's a full hospital with about 6 faculties ( @least I was there in person & saw for myself ). I didn't get to meet the oby/ gyn as I was to get back to Nigeria almost immediately.

Hello house,
Gave birth to my precious baby girl on the 3rd of May 2015 at Del Sol Medical center,El Paso Texas.

The care at the hospital was totally amazing!

My bills(normal delivery):
Doctor's fee $2500
Hospital $2200
Epidural $500 (I'm sure I wuld have died of pain if I didn't use it)
Paediatrician $210
Hearing test $326(I wonder wat made me do it. Total waste).
Birth cert $23 per copy. BC came out two weeks after I gave birth. It can come out earlier or later.jst keep checking the website daily.
US passport $165 for expedited. Did it on Wednesday, went for pickup on Friday.
I am doing Naija passport not visa(no details yet as i'm in the process of doing it. I will update once I'm done).

I stayed at his grace lodge

IMPORTANT NOTES:
Wen going to the hospital to give birth, take only clothes you and baby will wear home after you are dicharged. No need to take anything else(weda cs or normal delivery) the hospital will give you evrything-baby food, diapers, toileteries, breast pad, nipple cream etc. They even gave my baby a big fully baked and iced cake!

After you are discharged from the hospital, the paediatrician will ask you to book an appointment at his office. Do not book unless baby has a problem and needs to see the doctor cos every visit is 65. Just go to his office and pay the $210 for checking the baby at the hospital, get you receipt and leave sharply biko!

If you want to do hearing test,be ready to get thru hell to pay for it. They do not collect cash. You will have to wait for a week or two after baby is born for them to send you a bill and address for you to mail money order which is outside Texas. You will wait for about a week for them acknowledge payment den btw one week to a month to get receipt except you call and harrass them to send it within a week.

Zero balance from hospital will be ready at the admin office of the hospital10-14days after delivery.

Make sure you request receipt showing zero balance for every payment made from the different service providers eg doc, hospital, paediatrician, hearing test etc.

I can't remember anything else but will update if I missed anything out.

Thanks to Shagaman and everyone that helped me thruout this process. You are all too much!

Hello isysleek, how's ur daughter doing?cld u pls give me ur private mail?need to ask some questions regarding el Paso.thanks

For those of us planning to go to el Paso for delivery and intend using Dr.martell,I called his office and the person I spoke with told me he no longer take patients from Nigeria.i asked why and was told 1 or 2 patients from Nigeria neglected his advice on doing some tests and all, hence made the whole process provoking.

Why travel all the way from Nigeria to the USA to have better healthcare and wnt have the necessary done(Dr.martell's plight)

So instead of having issues like that,he wnt be taking Nigerians again.he has 2 other doctors he has referred any interested patients to.

I feel so gutted for a doctor to have such feelings toward Nigerians.
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by olokings(m): 4:21pm On Sep 14, 2015
Hmm... this is quite pitiful i must say.
whilst i reserve my doubt of other underlying circumstances as to his conclusion on the matter, i'd say his logic is quite clear.
we travel 11000km to acquire the blue pali and pay our hard earned box for good healthcare yet we still refuse to satisfy the basic requirements such as lil tests (which compared to the venture in totality is truly negligible in price). it could be discouraging from a perspective.

trust me, if this trend continues, i won't be surprise if other physicians begin toeing his line of thought.

anywho, hope he have a rethink because, boy is he in for loosing out on a large chunk of gold bars..

Not all ppl are after just the "gold bars", like u put it. Some Drs are really very conscientious. U know all strikes against drs in developed countries are registered n all adds up in his overall profile, unlike what prevails in 9ja. This keeps them on their toes, together with all the litigation.

Thing is, as much as we want an affordable package, we shld plan to do the needful. I still find it ridiculous that despite a mama's story on the hearing test result of her baby, alotta ppl ere still deem it a wastage! You've travelled this far n spent so much energy n money, won't you rather do all necessary so u can get the best intervention if need be??
Like u rightly said, so many other Drs might start doing same thereby, making the whole journey more stressful.

I actually find this strange. When I contacted Rodolfo earlier, he said Dr Martell was retiring, hence, he won't be taking any patient again.

I actually find the excuse flimsy in my view, people have been rejecting some tests from time immemorial and he didn't stop taking us.

I honestly don't think this response is correct. But we will know for sure if he really retires soon.

The lady was right. Dr. Martel also told me the same thing. I bumped into him at the Labour and delivery ward and I accused him of rejecting Nigerians. He complained bitterly about us. In fact, I was so ashamed by the time he was done. How can a woman who is HIV positive reject a Csection? She insisted on having a vaginal delivery! !!! Doesn't such a person understand the implications of her actions. To me, that's sheer wickedness ! She wants to infect an innocent child. He told me so many gory tales of our people and insisted he wouldn't go back because he doesn't want to lose his medical licence yet. However, he had a couple of awesome patients too from Nigeria. Unfortunately, the bad ones outweighed the good ones. So so sad!
