What Is The Lowest Income A Person Living In Lagos Should Earn To Live Decently? Answered by Sagamite(m): 12:16pm On Sep 09 Quetion by; kkoncept: So I saw this this morning and it got me thinking, what is your definition of a decent life in Lagos? What is the lowest income you can take if you are paying your rent and feeding yourself and also have plans. Based on your question, one can conclude you are asking about a single person, not a person with a family. You will need to calculate it based on the cost of essential and modern everyday needs. House rent, bills, connectivity, transportation, socialising, clothing, grocery, hand-outs and savings. For House rent, most people would want to live in a decent middle-class area. So forget most of the places on this list: https://www.nairaland.com/2526066/hierarchy-top-10-areas-live So to live decently, you will be looking at areas like Iwaya, Shomolu, Festac, Ajah etc for a 1-2 bedroom flat to rent so as to get easy access to where the jobs are. That should set you back around N60K per month For Bills, one will assume you have no generator, so you will just be paying Nepa bills and maybe thrash-collection bills, also you will be buying gas for cooking. You are not staying in any expensive estate, so no service charges. Lets assume the only health challenges you have is the rare case of headache and malaria once in a while. Lets say, this should set you back about N5K per month. For Connectivity, a mobile and internet access is essential to most lives nowadays. Maybe you have to have at least 3K for calls and another N2K for MB. Lets say, this should set you back about N5K per month. For Transportation, I don't have a jack arsse clue how much danfo bus rides cost in Lagos nowadays. Let me just assume a short journey is N50. So you have to get to work and also get around to buy stuff or visit friends and family. I will be assuming 3 to 4 buses to get to work for 21 days a month and add another 20% for other journeys. Nothing like going to London or Dubai for holiday for someone at a decent life o. Lets say, this should set you back about N5.25K per month. For Socialising, the time you meet up with your friends to have beer and peppersoup or when you decide to take that secretary you see on the way to work with big yansh (like Happiness87) out so you can have a chance to hit it. Since you said decent life, forget those LASU and Unilag hot girls because they cost yafun yafun to maintain. Budget about N20K per month for this. You no dey pop champagne. For Clothing, you need to by clothes and shoes for work and events. Avoid Aso Ebis. Waste of money. Lets say, this should set you back about N8K per month. For Groceries, you go chop now? You go dey cook for house and also taking some food to work. Lets say, this should set you back about N10K per month. For Hand-outs, this is Naija. You must to have someone coming to meet you to "assist him/her" if you have a job. You also have to give something-something to parents, grand-parents and other family. Lets say, this should set you back about N10K per month. Then if you want to plan for the future and other contingencies while still living a decent life, you need to save about 20% of your take home pay just in case. So your spend should be 80% of your take home pay. So far, we have calculated you should be spending about N105K per month. So you need to be saving about N26K a month. So if you are a single person living a decent life in Lagos, you would be living in a middle-class area, socialising moderately, have no car or generator and have savings for your future & the unexpected. That person would need about N130K per month| N1.56m per annum take-home pay (i.e. after all taxes and deductions). From my understanding of Nigerian taxation, that means you should have a job paying at least N2m a year to get that take-home pay. That should tell you not many people live a decent life in Naija. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Taeewo: As much as a lot are eager to join the whatsapp group,, its has come to notice that a vast majority do not want to go by rules n regulations governing the group and aside that they don't want to b professional and flare up when cautioned. What you see in the "freestyle group" is what obtained in the former group(hence the reason for sanitization the group). After the sanitization ,,a new group was created where a lot of fun and play as well as less caution is allowed. I believe that was d group ,you were added to..the main group is very much in existence but now it is regulated and they only speak on professional things and topics to aid one another. But joining the group is subject to screening.. This is to control traffic as well as keeping the group professional. Apologies for the inconvinience..you have my digits ,send me a whatsapp private message. |
Re: Strictly For Those Interested In Teaching Jobs by upload111: 7:23am On Sep 14, 2015 |
Sunnypar: Most people join d whatsapp for professional reasons but when they get there ,they don't behave professional. Hence the reason for the sanitization process that took place earlier..after which i discused with goldendr n some others and we came up with the idea of creating a new group. Where just anyone is allowed ..what the complainants see on d new gropu is a sort of replica of what was happenin on d general group before the sanitization..hence the need to seperate groups.now there is process and screening before one is allowed on d main whatsapp group. if one is added to the other group n feel they qualify for d main group..u have my digits ,reach out to me and state why you think u qualify.. From that "freestyle group" people have been added to the main grp as we have seen their interactions n attitude on d group as being okay. 1 Like |

Ijlyriks: I have explained ma.. Apologies if this sounds harsh but u in d course of interacting with you, it was glaring you joined the group thinking its an alternative for the thread here .hoping for vacancies n job adverts. That's y your request was turned down.. For Vacancies n job adverts ,you stand a great chance of that here and not on d whatsapp group cos we have stated that vacancies are to b posted here and not on the group.. |
