Hi

Please I need your guidance in applying for a green card eb4.
I have been processing the visa via a legal firm and require to submit a written bio on how I can be of benefit to the USA

I can't tell you what to write. Just be honest, and if you qualify and are eligible, you'll get the visa.

Dear VO

We are currently at the NVC stage .....we recently found out that my age on the marriage certificate was wrong, a clerical error, will this be a problem during my interview? if yes what can we do? thx

It may lead to additional questions, but just answer them honestly and you should be okay.

i drop my passport last week wednesday at DHL office so what next

That means that your visa should be ready for pick-up at the collection center in two weeks. smiley

Please don't forget to provide context if you ask questions here in the future. That way everyone can benefit from your questions, and I don't have to go on a detective search to understand what you're asking. Thanks!

Goodmorning VO,
I am aware you dont respond much to question for NVC but I really want know, if I need to write my name or case number at  the back of the passport photograph am sending to NVC or leave it blank?
This information is really delaying me.
My wife is filing I-130 for me and we are about to send documents required to NVC.
Anybody in the house can also respond to this, if the person is very sure of what I should do.

Thanks all.

I have no idea. This is a question for NVC.

Hello VO, thanks for a job well done here. Here is my question
I have applied for Tourist visa to visit a friend (My mums friend; i told the consular during the interviews). I got denied 4 times between July 2010 and january 2014)… I was married (traditional wedding) through out these times. The marriage ended by divorce in Dec 2014.

I started a new relationship with an old friend (US citizen) in February 2015, she came to visit me in August, she is about filling d K1 petition.

I went to my DS 160 forms used during the tourist visa applications and realized in the spouse name section i stated her names as (My last name, her first name & her middle name)…
On the divorce decree, her name is stated as (her maiden name, her first name & middle name)
Can this affect the petition though the first name & middle name & date of birth is d same.. do you think the person handling the petition and consular for the K1 visa will understand d divorce decree is still d same person in my previous applications or i have to write a note stating it
Do you think the time frame for wanting to get married is too short since i got divorced in dec 2014 and my fiancee wants to file a fiancé petition in september 2015
Can my previous Tourist visa denials affect my new K 1 application?

Please advice! Thanks

The situation you describe may lead to additional questions, but if you answer them honestly and you have a bona fide relationship with the petitioner, you should be fine. Just tell the truth.

Thank you VO.

I'm going for a conference scheduled between the 19th- 22nd of October. Should my interview date of 23rd September be cancelled by the embassy due to public holiday (which they are yet to do as of today), what should I do? How do I rescheduled for an emergency interview?

Sorry that I'm posting in the wrong section.

This really is a question for the non-immigrant visa thread.

Like we submitted the original one to the NVC already...will another be needed?

Are you asking about police certificates? (Everyone, please, provide some context when you write your questions so we can all tell what you're asking about!) If you're asking about police certificates, you must bring one with you to the interview even if you have already submitted one to NVC.

What I wrote earlier was: "It usually takes five business days for a visa and immigration packet to be ready for pickup, if there are no technical glitches." The key word is "usually." Now I'm saying two weeks, just so you're not disappointed if it does take more than five days. You can always call the collection center and ask them if the visa is ready to be picked up yet, you know.

In September the cut-off date for F2Bs is Dec. 22, 2008, which means that F2B cases with petitions filed on or before Dec. 22, 2008, are eligible to be scheduled for interviews. As of Oct. 1, 2015, the cut-off date for F2Bs will change to Jan. 15, 2009. The change means that some F2B cases that are current now, in September, will no longer be current in October -- but it will only affect those cases with petitions filed between Dec. 22, 2008, and Jan. 15, 2009.

They usually don't ask for new medicals unless they think they're ready to issue a visa. But they will probably ask him some additional questions when he comes in -- I have no way of knowing for sure. If they had wanted to see additional documents, they would have asked for them. Good luck!

Ah, this is my favorite kind of question, because I am a huge nerd about Consular numbers.

The 220,000 number you quote represents family preference visas only. In FY2014, a total of 467,370 immigrant visas were issued worldwide. That includes 221,193 family preference beneficiaries, as well as immediate relatives, special immigrants, employment preference beneficiaries, and Diversity Visa winners. Additionally, there were 41,488 K visas issued worldwide. And then there are all the people who go to the U.S. as students or temporary workers and somehow manage to adjust status, which I believe is around 200,000, but I can't find that statistic now that I need it. smiley

To quote the Visa Bulletin: Section 201 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) sets an annual minimum family-sponsored preference limit of 226,000. The worldwide level for annual employment-based preference immigrants is at least 140,000. Section 202 prescribes that the per-country limit for preference immigrants is set at 7% of the total annual family-sponsored and employment-based preference limits, i.e., 25,620. The dependent area limit is set at 2%, or 7,320. So the seven percent allocated to each country refers only to principal applicants in family-sponsored and employment-based cases; it does not include their derivatives, immediate relatives, etc.

Let's take Nigeria as an example. In addition to IRs, CRs, and various other visa categories, Nigeria could also have 25,620 visas for family-sponsored people who aren't IRs or CRs and and for employment-based visa beneficiaries. Nigeria has yet to see a year with that many current family-preference or employment-based cases, although I suppose it could happen some day. Let's pretend that we issued 15,620 such visas last year, leaving 10,000 unissued. That 10,000 does not roll over to the next year. But we don't need it to, because believe it or not, demand for visas hasn't reached the point where that 10,000 would make a difference next year (that is, we're not going to have 35,620 current family preference and employment-based cases next year).

If, someday, there is a major push to change cut-off dates so that waiting periods are shorter, demand would indeed go up sharply, at least temporarily. But Nigeria's demand would have to increase more than tenfold for us to start "running out" of family preference visas.

Make sense?
Good Day Ma,i have been following questions and answers for some time now,i must confess you are TOO MUCH.Ma, please explain the"SPECIAL IMMIGRANTS"you made mention of in your explanation.Thank you.

It doesn't matter what dress he chooses to wear, all that's important is he looks good in what he wear. On my interview, I had a plain trouser and a long sleeve shirt. Simple, but sharp

Dear, VO.
I have been to the embassy more than 30 times since 1996. The first time was under DV but i was denied visa because my documents could not be verified. The second time around was in 1998, my sister filed for me, claiming to be my mother and i came with another age different from my previous information. I was asked to go for DNA test, i did the test and it was ok, they kept on rescheduling me and at the end i got nothing. Am tired of lying, i want to come clean. Please what do i do now? My brother filed for me 12years ago and it has been approved. Can i be eligible for a waiver? What can the waiver do in my case?

After my interview, I was requested to submit some documents, to be dropped off at GSS DOCUMENTS COLLECTION CENTER, DHL HOUSE, Lagos.
Can I mail these documents through a poster service or someone to the drop off location?

There are (broadly speaking) two types of special immigrant visa, both of which are employment-based.

1. Congress has enacted a series of legislative provisions since 2006 to enable certain Iraqi and Afghan nationals to become U.S. lawful permanent residents (LPRs). These provisions make certain Iraqis and Afghans who have worked as translators or interpreters, or who were employed by, or on behalf of, the U.S. government in Iraq or Afghanistan, eligible for special immigrant visas (SIVs). Special immigrants comprise a category of permanent employment-based admissions under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).

2. Additionally, locally employed staff anywhere in the world who have worked for a U.S. Embassy or Consulate for a certain number of years may be eligible to receive special immigrant visas.

A person qualifies for a visa if he has the relationship he claims to have with the petitioner. He is eligible for a visa if he does not have criminal, health, etc. problems that would render him ineligible to enter the United States.

This is true. However, in some cases people send a photocopy of the original document to NVC, and bring the original document with them to the interview. You should follow the instructions sent to you by NVC.
