Nice thread. After being a Nairaland member for 9 years and a silent reader of the property section I have decided to embark on a building project with the support and advise of lots of members here.

Building a house from abroad can be a very challenging project to accomplish. Hence, I will be opening a thread to diarise my building project at Tinapa - Calabar, a 3 Bedroom Bungalow with a 2 bedroom Penthouse later today.

You can get a new battery directly opposite Mobil busstop on Ring Road at Infinity Tyres. Or would you like a mechanic to look at it for you?

My Nephew took a bike to Oke Bola and returned with a battery.

I'm home now but I think the alternator is toasted, so that's tomorrow work. I met with the builder and iron bender today and they're good to go.

I really need a gate.

It all depends on the type of school you are building, facilities required, no of floor, offices, parking spaces... e.t.c

But ideally two standard plots or more should be adequate...

There are pockets of gates here and there but its nothing like those laser cut gates you put up there..
From Eleyeile, you can tell a bike to lead you to Save and Serve church. Just before the canal there's this welder with a large collection. Going further up same road, just before DSTV, there's a guy on the right too.


I'm pretty sure there are places around Elebu too.

From my little unqualified knowledge...

Columns (Pillars) are good for all building... but it does not mean you cannot build a bungalow without columns.
You will have a stable bungalow with pillars, but MUST required or Duplex.
You have two options as I see it:
1. Continue with your four bedroom bungalow without the pillars and use the 9 inch blocks as you have suggested, but I will not advise putting any parapet on this building. You can still have a stable bungalow without the pillars.

2. This second option will cost you money and your pocket will decide. They will have to break some parts of the foundations to erect the pillars from the ground up, and that will cost you extra money. The pillars are not just going to be in corners, but also has to be placed on strategic points in the foundation to have any effect, contact your professionals to suggest the effective points.
But you can still build a good solid 4 bedrooms bungalow without pillars, especially if the soil is very dry and good enough.

May be if you post the floor layout, professional people can suggest the points and the number of pillars you may need if you desire.

Not sure but I'm still at fencing stage and I went through my Blockmaker who is storing them for me as I don't have a site store. I'll get into that level of detail when I buy the ones for the foundation, hopefully tomorrow In Sha Allah.

Hi Folks,

I have just purchased an additional 50 x 50 (22.5sq metres) plot next to my main plot and was wondering whether this building design could fit into the space. It is 2 units of 3 bedroom and 2 bedroom flat.

It has been approved for a different location on my main site but was wondering if I could put it in the new 50 x 50 plot (at the back of my land) in order to free up more space in the main plot.

I know I am supposed to show size or foundation dimensions but unfortunately I do not have these info at hand.
