http://www.punchng.com/news/tax-remittance-will-increase-within-one-week-fg/ The number of taxpayers across the country will increase within the next one week, the Federal Government has said. According to the government, the requisite measures needed to actualise this feat have been made possible in partnership with various states’ boards of internal revenue service, adding that enforcement of the collection of taxes would henceforth be undertaken by the federal and state governments. The Acting Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Mr. Tunde Fowler, disclosed this on the sidelines of the 132nd meeting of the Joint Tax Board in Abuja on Monday. Fowler, who doubles as the Chairman of the JTB, stated that the Federal Government’s target was to ensure that it achieved at least 99.9 per cent tax remittance compliance level. “This means that every individual at the state level and every corporate organisation at the federal is taxed and pays the appropriate amount,” he said. On how the agency would go about this, Fowler said, “We are going to exchange information with state boards of internal revenue so that we have all the information in a database. We’ve given them out already in case there is any company within their states that they don’t currently have on their database. That is step number one. “So, immediately, we should have a growth in taxpayers both at the federal and state levels within one week.” Asked for the volume of tax remittance to expect, the FIR boss said, “Let me not put a naira figure on it. But I can tell you in terms of percentages. Based on information given by the FIRS, they did say that they had about 450,000 corporate organisations, out of which one-third were paying. 1 Like |

South Africa generates more from TAXES in a year than Nigeria generates from OIL in a year. How a country with a GDP of over $550billion generates on a paltry sum as Tax is mind boggling. 1 Like |

Anyone who believes this OMO ALE tout, needs to return to the elementary school. How will they improve FIR when they couldn't effect a 10% VAT increase which they had earlier agreed on(thank God). Up till today the man is still working in a acting capacity. imagine the lunacy and irregularities being perpetuated under this dispensation. By the time the 4 years of this worthless government are over, our nation, the constitution and our democracy will be in tatters. 1 Like |

99.9% tax remittance is impossible even in the most advanced societies. VAT is a good start to increase taxes. |

TonyeBarcanista: Why are you always in a hurry to judge this administration's policies and directions, before we start talking about how to use the money, let us encourage them to get the money first, then we move to the next stage of spending efficiently. I use to respect you a lot but now i can see that you are filled with hate for Buhari and it is not good for your health. God Bless Nigeria. 1 Like |

While the Amphibians who've sworn never to see anything good in this government keep seething with hate and envy at every good news that hits the airwaves, Nigeria keeps making silent progress to their utter dismay. The more good news we see and read about, the more their situation and general well being deteriorates, good thing is, they shall continue to revel in their self induced misery for the next 8years at least. #NeverAgain shall this country be handed to such band of criminals and their demonic cheerleaders. Nigeria will grow stronger and stronger IJN, amen. Long Live Mohamadu Buhari. Long Live PYO. Long Live Fowler. Long Live Nairaland Progressives. God Bless the FRN. |
