I believe he thought the ball was going out of play, not knowing there was still a tiny bit of space for the ball to enter.

Thats where I question him. Must you always assume the ball is going out? And my other concern was, like the one against Bilbao, he didnt make any attempt to save the ball. This falls back to the first question about him assuming (wrongly).

But he has to put his nose to the grindstone and mke sure he doesnt always make silly assumptions. Makes me wonder, if he were out against Atletico, Torres wouldnt have gotten anywhere near the ball.
