manjuninho:You can say that again! College of wah? College of adult teaching abi? First and foremost, permit me to introduce myself properly. I'm a Bsc(edu) graduate, and so I know what I'm talking about... The first requirement for teaching is acquisition & possession of knowledge. Whatever it is you don't know, you can't teach. Period! While I don't know much of other field, I can categorically tell you that as a Biology Edu graduate, I did courses in Botany dept, Microbiology dept, Biochemistry dept, and Zoology dept. Hence, I touched every aspect of biology. Now, let any NCE graduate that read Biology come out to tell us in which dept he did courses. I repeat, I've seen undergraduates of colleges of Edu using Essential Biology textbooks as their course material. Believe me or not, it's the truth. Most times I check some of their handouts, Jeez! I can't help but thumb my nose in disgust. What in the Heaven are these? And you were talking about what teaching entails right? If you think all those paparazzi Lesson note, classroom management, teaching methodologies are what teaching entails. Then, I'm afraid your own case of ignorance is beyond anyone's help. Hence, I give up on you. Ever wondered why big schools don't even mention NCE as their condition for employment? Lolz! 6 Likes 1 Share |

Funpeter: Well, I won't answer that your question but I will like to give you as an assignment yourself. The school I attended though a College, its also a degree awarding institution of two schools (uniuyo and Eksu) and u know what? We are using same handout nd even some of the courses who @ NCE offers @ 100L is been offered in 300L so I thinh that negates your argument. |

Evathyst: I don't seem to understand your own definition of big school but in my definition a big school will never employ a BSC holder that is not in EDU or that has previously passed through NCE. If you differ from that, you can kindly name 1 or 2 big school you know of that employ non educationist as teachers. 2 Likes |

Kazrem:Your own post is bereft of logic, hence, I'll just ignore your rantings. But I've got some simple questions for you though, if you would be sincere enough to answer them... 1- How many of your secondary school teachers are NCE holders? 2- How many big schools employ NCE holders as subject teachers? You could please mention names. 3- How many Govt Sch teachers self are NCE holders. I don't mean Pry school teachers o! Your answers to the above questions would serve as a template upon which my argument with you will be based. Also, did you just talk about Sir Ahmadu Bello as being an NCE holder? So? What's the correlation? And as for the name calling, I'm too big a lady to exchange words with a e-entity whose whole existence begins and ends online.... Try calling me names again, and I'll prove to you that you don't have the monopoly of name calling. PS: I'm a Bsc(edu) graduate of O.A.U Ile-ife. So? Have you any other bragging rights? Tender it or you argue logically next time. 5 Likes 1 Share |

manjuninho:Now you're talking! Now that I have you on the rope, lemme quickly finish you off while I await the next NCE vain-braggart. I've friends who are also members of this forum that teach in big schools like Caleb, Greenspring, Corona, Newhall at lekki. They didn't even study anything relating to education. PS: They may not want to confirm my claims so as not to give full vent to this controversial issue. But trust me, big schools employ Bsc graduates so long as he is sound academically. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Please I won't want us to start insulting ourselves just to drive home our points, everyone is entitled to his/her opinions and will also want everyone to know that if wishes were horse beggars would ride. Not everybody that went for NCE wishes not go to the university,to some it was financial constraint not because they are not brilliant so coming here to rubbish a certificate just because you are opportuned to attend a university doesn't make you more intelligent or brilliant than someone who wasn't opportuned. 5 Likes |

Evathyst: If its true they should be able to confirm it and I will gladly accept it but failure to do so simply means none of such exists. Don't get things twisted sis, there is a big difference between been intelligent or let me use your word been sound academically and been able to pass it unto others which is the aim of education. Evathyst:Miss Evathyst, let me disagree with you for the fourth time this year... If you look at the way our educational system was initially structured, you would agree with me that an NCE graduate is more qualified a teacher than a Bsc holder. NCE holders have been exposed to the rudiments and methodologies of teaching, while we Bsc holders haven't. Although, a good number of Bsc holders learnt from experience. Now, let me share a life-experience with you. In one of my former schools. Once, inspectors came for a routine inspection. As the biology teacher, it was my turn to field questions from them. The moment they checked my qualification to see that I'm not an Edu graduate, their questions assumed a different dimension. They started asking me questions pertaining to education, which ordinarily I'm not supposed to know. After they might have deflated my ego that day, they again, added salt to my injury. At the end of the whole exercise, their submission about me went thus; 'Academically qualified, but professionally unqualified'. It was then I knew the hustle is real. As I speak, I've already concluded plans on how to begin my PGDE because that is one of the prerequisite for my continuous stay in my present place of work. I was only employed because of Heaven's grace and some little teaching experience I displayed on the day of their interview. I understand the premise upon which your argument is based. That most Bsc holders are more academically sound than their NCE counterparts. Abi? Even that opinion is itself subject to intellectual debate. But if you should know, teaching is not about how much you know, but how much you can impact. Nobody cares how academically qualified you are, but if you don't know the right teaching techniques that will translate to your students' success. Then I'm afraid you're a goner! Understand? Whilst I appreciate everyone's contribution on this, I'll also want to appeal to us to please refrain from name-calling whenever controversial issues like these are being deliberated upon. Honestly it's not cool. Evathyst, if you want to understand this subject matter better, then repeat this my popular serenity prayer; Dear Lord, give me the serenity to accept the things that I cannot change, The courage to change the things that I can, And the wisdom to know the difference between the two. Amen! Shalom! 5 Likes 1 Share |

I can believe some people are here to talk about certificate. You claim you have Bsc whatever, you are nothing those that knows about education don't make noise at all. Talking about big schools it might surprise you that they employ NCE holders I know of someone who went for interview on the so called big school were Bsc, master and what have you came as well but to his surprise out of about 60 people he made it to the final stage. Please stop bragging about what you have because it's nothing if you can't defend it. All this Computerised graduates of these days making noise, that's if it's real. All na online. Some Schools are even fade up with graduate of these days who are after big money instead of impacting knowledge. if you are a degree holder, NCE holder, Pgde, SSCE, Masters or whatever. What is your goal as a teacher, are you ready to learn along as you teach? Are you teaching because no other job is available? or you have passion for it. For those that have less or no certificate, work hard and be focused , go extra miles to learn ways to impact knowledge effectively. For the degree holders . Don't think you have it all but think of ways to give in your best at all times. Stop jumping from one place to another every 3 months looking for fat salary, If you do your best and have passion for your job better ones will come running after you. To you all, learn qualities of a good teacher and check if you are qualified to be called one before talking about your certificates. Thank you (if you care). 1 Like |

olafisoyeibukun:So? It's their NCE certificate that got them to where they are abi? Little wonder why Bsc holders bully most NCE holders. You people's argument most times reeks ignorance & sentiment. One person above was saying 'The best graduating lawyers are not often the best practising lawyers' smh! How does that correlate with the subject matter? He will even fault his own argument on account of using a wrong analogy(Simple PHYL 101). So the likes of Afe Babalola, Akinjide, Akin Olujimi, Rotimi Akeredolu, etc all graduated with pass abi? Smh! Or you want to tell me Rotimi Williams (Timi the law), Adetokumbo Ademola, Itse Sagay, amongst others are third class product? You'll soon wake up from your slumber. Again, that Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa became a prime minister with his grade 2 abi na TC 2 doesn't even add any logic to the argument. Hian? Again, one was asking the challenger to name anybody who has been employed as a teacher in a big school before he'll accept her claims. See, some of us just don't fancy this show of discrimination. I, as a person, I've taught in big schools. Yet, I'm not a graduate of education. Infact, teaching in big schools entails how much you know and in what measure you can impact. That's why you hardly find NCE graduates in big schools. 4 Likes 1 Share |

ravensckar: Thanks for your contribution sir but in as much as u negate my opinion all I see is you validating it, If Prof Disu is not an Education certificate holder, do you think he can be appointed to that post? And for your information there are a lot of NCE holder in big school only that majority of them hav e upgraded their qualifications. Finally, I want to make bold of saying that been a university graduate does not make an intelligent person, why are many of the so called non educational university graduates not find job in their field?because if you are majority of them when they were still in the university if they would like to teach, all you will hear them say is over their dead body but after getting into the labour market and they sees that they can't compete with their counterparts they take up teaching job and start boasting of knowing more than a person who was trained in the education field. My humble and final submission on this NCE/BSC dichotomy. |
