Learning programming is a little bit cost in this country. You can easily teach yourself programming languages via pdf and online courses. This helped a lot. Now i am programmer of 8 languages and very 5. There is a point where trained-taught programmers start learning themselves. If you teach people how to program don't forget you dont fish for people, you teach people how to fish.

Self taught programming is my path, it hasn't been easy but with time, money and perseverence i have been able to grab java and web programming (html, css, js) concepts to ~50%. I envy those schooled programmers cos they got spoon-fed with direction, even if you don't attend classes the course syllabus content can guide you in becoming a programmer because guess work is out of the way.

Whilst being self-taught is good, it's not always the best option. In Software Development, you may be stubborn and only do things the way you learned to them and not the way the business world wants you to do them.

If you attend a good computer science school, they teach you the Industry standard.

What I'm saying is that it's good to be self-taught, but you should be flexible enough to want to change your style a bit. Do you want to be/remain a freelance programmer or fit in the big shoes of a really good position.
