Few questions for you: 1) Any update on your prospect for water in Nike , Enugu.?? Pictures ?? 2) What is your experience/success rate in finding water in Enugu especially Thinker's corner /around airport/ Emene or Agbani and cost to dig borehole ?? 3) what other areas/towns outskirt of Enugu (besides ninth mile ) has larger aquefer of fresh water 4) For those in Enugu and its environ who have well water, can you instal Reverse Osmosis system to purify/treat the water ? 5) what is the average labor cost to set up the system if I already have an R.O system ? I am looking at setting up a water treatment plant and answers to above and sites will be of great help. Thank you |

@waterway. Thanks a lot for your interest in our organisation, let me start from the first question. The result of the geo-physical survey we carried out at amaokpu- nike indicated that there are no water sustaining rocks(aquifer), due to the thickness of the overlying coal seams and other factors, but that does not mean that there are no other locations in nike where you can get very good aquifer, in fact ibagwa-nike is an exception. You can get water around thinkers corner, airport and emene generally, but agbani is of great challenge and the possibility of not succeeding is there due to the geology of that location. There are other areas in enugu state where you can find fresh water aquifer, the whole of nsukka and its environs have very good aquifer. From opi,aku,enugu-ezike,nsukka town,ibagwani,obolo-afor, isiuzo, uzouwani, ette, etc, all have very good aquifer, the only thing here is dept of the fresh water aquifer which ranges from 700fts and beyond. Your fourth question about using R.O system to treat well water in enugu and its environs, the answer is yes, we can do that for you anytime you want it. Your last question about installation of R.O. System. I assume you already have the system in place, so I will not bother you about how many membranes and the filters. I believe everything is already in place and if I am correct and we are talking about bottle water factory here. We shall collect 220k from you. Thanks a lot once again, I hope I have been of help and if there is any other thing you want me to help you out with, kindly let me know. Hoping to establish a cordial business relationship with you. 1 Like |

Goodday please need yr advise. I have a well with a depth of about 35 feet kindly recommend a good brand of a submersible pump. Also what capacity of a submersible pump should I get? An technician is suggesting a 0.5 hp which he claims would pump for powerfully than a 1 hp or 1.5 hp. Note that my tank capcity is 6, 000 liters. |
Re: Hidden Secrets Of Borehole Drilling, Geo-physical Survey, Water Treatment Etc. by Ibinwanne(m): 8:54am On May 27, 2015 |
@DUNKA.Thanks a lot. What your technician recommended can work very well, but what you need to know is that the higher the capacity of the submersible, the faster it pumps water. So, I wouldn't know the exact water requirement there, but if you are sure that the depth of the borehole is up to 35fts and it was drilled to the rechargeble aquifer, I then recommend 1hp pump. But using a pump of higher capacity requires that there must be sufficient water in the borehole, if not the pump will just push out the available water in the borehole and after that, it will not have any other water to pump and that will automatically lead to the pump going bad. 1 Like 1 Share |

@catalona. Thanks a lot my brother. I certainly remember our discussion on water treatment. I am looking forward to getting the water sample on friday as u said, but if it will give u stress bringing it to the point where I will come and collect it, just let me know so that, I can go and collect it myself, after all, is my job. Attached are some of the project pictures, but we just started one behind romay garden estate today. Hopefully, I will upload more later.

Sir, I want to commend you for this post, this is an eye opener for those that may likely want to embark on this kind of project. Info like this guide against falling prey of quacks who may want to play on people's ignorance and exploit them. We corps members are about to start a project here in makurdi very close to river benue as a form of CDS project. We have so many question yet unanswered like; 1) Is there any need for ge o-physical survey considering the fact that its very close to river benue which is a fresh water though unsanitary. 2) Do we go for well and incorporate a water pump and storage system or dig a normal borehole. 3) which the them will be cost effective as per good quality water? 4) If we're to go for well, how many hp of water pump will be efficient for 5000litres of storage tank. 5) From experience, What will likely be the cost implication of sinking a bore with close proximity to river as big as river benue. Thanks |

@bmdflo. Thanks a lot for your interest in our organization. We are really happy to have heard from you. I will answer the questions one after the other. 1. It is important to understand what geophysical survey is all about. Geophysical surveys happens to be the scientific method of determining the existence or otherwise of underground water. Geophysical surveys are generally used to "look into the ground" and find the detailed subsurface stratigraphy beneath the area. Geophysical surveys are used in ground water investigations taking into consideration the geology and hydrogeology of the location. So, in answering the first question, yes it is important to carry out a geophysical survey to ascertain the availability of underground water as well as the depth of fresh water aquifer. Please, endeavour to carry out a geophysical survey before embarking on that project, the presence of benue river notwithstanding, because the presence of a river channel is not an indication of a productive fresh water aquifer. 2. I sincerely advice you people to go for borehole drilling. There is a saying where I come from that "what is what doing is what doing well". The advantages of drilling a borehole cannot be overemphasize. There should be a stanchion as well as a reasonable storage tank. 3. Borehole is preferable, it doesn't have a blanket price, it is subject to the depth of the fresh water aquifer and few other factors. 4. It will be difficult to recommend pump for the well without knowing the depth of the well as well as the rate of rechargebility. 5. Again, it depends on the result of the geophysical survey. You can only have an idea of the cost implication when you know the depth of the fresh water aquifer. Thanks a lot, hope I have been of help to you, feel free to ask me anything if you still have any area you would want us clarify. |
Re: Hidden Secrets Of Borehole Drilling, Geo-physical Survey, Water Treatment Etc. by Ibinwanne(m): 1:47am On Aug 25, 2015 |
@bran1. Thanks a lot, it is necessary to install a water treatment plant in that location. The reason is because of the contamination of the underground water. The level of contamination could be so high in some cases. So, i advice that you install a water treatment plant in other to make that water safe for human usage. During the borehole drilling, care should be taken to locate the fresh water aquifer, use a proper screen and ensure that the hole is well cased. |

@nonyowen. Thanks a lot for your interest in our organisation, we sincerely appreciate it. The geophysical survey report advised us not to drill borehole at that particular site, according to the report, it will not yield the desired result. In answering the other part of your question which has to do with the city generally, with the exception of Enugu urban which has a lot of underground water challenges, almost all other parts does not have serious challenges, but there are one or two underground water challenges in few other areas, that is why we recommend underground water investigation before carrying out the drilling proper. Please, if this did not fully answer your question, you can call me on 08036745944, 08099405096,08084019485. BB PIN:7F7A69D7 or through our e-mail:olivewellnigeria@yahoo.com. @iykmon. Thanks for your questions. The pumps and every other part of the plant performs specific functions, each is different from the other, but they all compliment each other. The aspect of boasting water pressure in the house is very much possible and it doesn't cost much to achieve the desired water pressure that is required in the house. Kindly call me or chat me up so that we can discuss it at length, because I have few questions I will like to ask you myself in other to understand the challenges your facing there as well as advise you on the solution. Thanks a lot in appreciation. 1 Like |

Ibinwanne: Thanks for your response. The fact is there is this 14 rooms self contain apartment I am supervising, we are about commencing the final plumbing stage. Which entails connecting the overhead tank to the house. Although that has not been done, but from previous experience I have seen a situation where there is always a drop in water pressure when the water is been use on the ground floor and there won't be water in the up floor. So I really want to avoid such situation for the occupants of the house when it is fully completed. |
