Hello house, i'm new here but have been following this thread when a friend of mine introduced it to me however, please i need urgent help on how to appeal my visa application that was refused after 3 good weeks. Did my interview on 31st August and got rejection letter on 25th of September. I applied for Master program and did not take a test in my interview. My interview i think, went well but the reason for my rejection was that there are doubts as to my serious intention to study in Germany as well as to the travel purpose. It also states that the alliens authority shares the opinion of the consulate general. Please Oga Eke40seven and all the gurus in the house i really need your God given wisdom to help me scale through. My enrollment deadline is 26th of October. Meanwhile i transferred through Access bank since 11th of September and telex copy given me but when i called DB they said nothing entered the account so i went to the bank they apologized and i received the credit alert the day i collected the rejection letter. Please all, what's the way forward

Ehen, I forgot to add a very important tip for those who are yet to come.
By as much clothes, jeans, inners and shoes as possible when coming, forget that Aba made quality hoax. Its hogwash.
Person wey I know tell me say him buy 10 jeans... cheesy him no go buy jeans be that again for the next one year.

secondly, come with a LAN cable. Most internet connections especially the one you would get in your room are WLAN and not Wifi. E cheap for naija, around 2k for 10m long cable. I know say the price for here go be die.

thirdly, bring winter jacket oh...the cold for here no be play. A useful tip to reduce the weight on your luggage which I told em Oye say I go do na I wan share give una so.
You know say clothes light well well and na jeans and winter jacket na heavy.
So this is what I did..
I wore two jeans, wear three if you can
then wore an inner, a shirt and two winter jackets for my body.
Laff if you would, but the clothes wey I wear for body reach 12kg when I measure am. Tell me how I for take add am to my bags wey dn already dey weigh 48kg The woman at the check in desk come de ask me say why I pack clothes for body say am I cold? Na I tell am say yesoooo...meanwhile no be small sweat I de sweat oh..lol

fourthly, carry all ur documents oh..I remember the guy at the airline desk asking me if I've payed my school fees and I tell am say na free tuituon, then he come de ask for any evidence of payment made to the school. I no no how that one take concern am sha, but I gavee him my Form A transfer receipt.

I wish all of una more testimonies oh..and those that are flying today, tomorrow and soon a very very safe flight..
again all ye ghosts for here, there is God oh..make una come out of hiding, cos what u people are doing is selfish, and in the long run una no go benefit trust me. I met a lovely Nigerian dude here and he has really been very helpful.. I believe God connected him to me as a helper, cos I love helping people in return... So have a rethink, let us as One Nigeria take over Deutschland. If you have any info that would help ur neighbour, tip on a course, connection to a person, job link, etc, share it, don't hoard it. Enoough of the Indians, the Cameronians and even Ghanaians dominating us. The average Nigerian has a mentality of wanting only himself to succeed and doesnt want his fellow Nigerian to succeed; living life as if na competition. We need to get rid of that mentality. Nothing dey for life oh my people, as all in all na vanity. We should live it consciously with a view of helping one another and putting smiles on people's faces.
Its Obiwannn signing off....and OHHHH YES..WINTER IS HERE!!!

Styles2009, biko I get some questions..please check ur PM, or gimme ur Lyca number if u get
Chief Cindino20, abeg u o get Lyca Number?
How una take cope with the initial cultural shock? I am finding it very difficult to go out of my room oh...been indoors all day.
Again, I found this site and was lost while sifting through it
http://prepaid-data-sim-card.wikia.com/wiki/Germany
I need a suggestion as per sim wey get cheap call rates to German numbers and cheap data plan...or those sim cards wey dey get flat rates wey cover calls sms and data. I don run from contract phone oh..I no buy again. The complexities involved pass even me wey like complex situations. Make I no go do wetin to finish all my block account money.

@Obiwannn I got your PM and sent you my Lyca number already, i am awaiting for your call as i can't reach you only through NL or PM

It must have been tough, 3 weeks is quite a long time o. One of the very few exceptions! Hmmm..this is what I can say, about appeal letters.
1. Appeal letter should come in a PDF attachment.
2. It should follow the format of a formal letter
3. Sign the letter.
4. Your grammar should be top notch and don't give room for mistakes (remember your capacity is already in doubt)
5. In the contents, write all the efforts you have made in order to start your studies, e.g the stress of application, attending of language school (if you did)
6. For the reasons why you choose Germany and the course, dont only emphasize on the cheap tuition, emphasise on the peculiar relationship between the course and your future plans. E.g when I was explaining my reasons for choosing the course I dug up the trends in the field here in Nigeria. Since mine emphasised on UNESCO buildings and natural heritage, I didn't just state general everyday facts, I told them that the state I was going to had 4 UNESCO sites, and Germany has 39 in total (with a right mix of both natural or man made sites) and the advantage is that It gives me the very rear advantage of learning about both phenomenon within a small geographic area, with a right mix of theory and practicals and this is not available any where else in the world! And Nigeria now has 12 sites on UNESCO tentative list, (she stopped, looked at me and ask me to say that again, and scribbled it down) I told her, that I actually have a lot of work to do, coming back because specialist in this field are scarce and by the time I'm through with the course, I would have a whole lot on my hands given that the course is NOT available in Nigeria or any where near to supply the needed man power to exploit the research required here or specialised Indigenous professionals who understand the system to take advantage of the opportunities. And the countries where its available in, its very expensive (I flinged different schools offering the course in one or two countries to her and gave their cost in comparism).
Even the welcoming nods and smile, gave me the impression that I had done my assignment well.
(Here, make sure you are more specific in your approach, play around with facts and statistics, (if you have back up proofs, fine.)
6. You may as well, chip in one or two external factors which could have made you not perform optimally, like stress, headache, you could even claim that you panicked, which was a thing that is rear to you in such situations and so your expressions of what you had in mind at that point was affected.
7. Don't lie, let your position and approach be as truthful as possible.
8. When you are submitting the appeal, send it as a reply to the mail that sent you the rejection, for easy reference s or always state you reference as the subject of your reply.
9. They may not acknowledge or reply your mail, but from what some had done, mail them to enquire about the status of your appeal, and you will get a reply from them that they have accepted it and that they are looking at it.
10. If there are additional documents to back up your claims, (ones not submitted prior to this time) you can attach as PDF and state it in the letter, what you have attached. Use links as proof when necessary.
After you have done your part, take it to the lord in prayers!
I hope you find this useful
Good luck!

GTB will do the job well enough but madam, you will need to open a current account...that's what they request for at least, the last time I checked.
Are you not the one going to Trier? I told you that the Nigerian friends there are looking forward to having one more person to their fold. If you need to connect with them just PM me.

Good morning house. Been a while I was on here. Got to Deutschland on Wednesday and settling down has not been easy - Understanding the bus fahrplan and all. The cold in Kiel is something else, although I'm getting used to it already.
I guess I missed quite a lot on here...

I just have 3 tips:
1. This has been overemphasized; LEARN THE LANGUAGE! YOU'LL BE FAR AHEAD IF YOU DO.
2. If you wish to buy a Lyca Sim, DO NOT BUY AT THE AIRPORT.
3. Come along with an extension socket with a 2-pin plug (The plug of the extension should be like a 2-pin laptop plug) for all your chargeables.

Wish y'all good luck.

please i need your humble reply please because its more than a 6 months have been following you guys , i thank you for a job well done. please on the scale of 5.00 cgpa , what is the current german equivalent on 3.00 because i heard that they no longer use 1 as the passmark but 2, its risky o i need your candid advice
Where you hear that one? Is that your new school policy? 3.00 out of 5.00 is exactly 2.5. We have posted how the grading system works, the calculations and which website you can convert it yourself.
@Dcitizen, I don't know the process of renewal, it varies, the issuing alien office In the best position to give you the feedback on it.

I am getting A mailer Daemon failure notice from the replies to your PM....you can mention me somewhere outside the travel section..we will take over from there

Sir Eke what he's saying is right. The PASS GRADE has been eliminated from Nigerian universities. Meaning our scaling system has been altered. We now operate a 4 point scaling system (according to NUC) Thanks

Please use another bank if you don't have time, GTB will just waste your precious time, with little or no explanation, or remorse. They wasted two weeks of my time while trying to send my funds. Some people on here said Union bank is fast, though a bit more expensive. Try them.

Thank @takeastep. I started looking for a potential PhD supervisor from my MSc days in the UK. I finished my MSc in the UK in 2012,so for 2 and a half years I have been searching and sending emails to professors in Germany. Finally, one has agreed to supervise me if I have my own funding. I have responded her telling her that I have my own funding. She's away in Russia on a business trip at the moment and will sign the document that shows she is willing to supervise my PhD when she returns next week. So,my application form should get to the international office in October. I intend to start the PhD in April, 2016.

I hope it works out well.

Guess i should give a bit of info here.

There are actually 2 ways in which you can get Phd slot here in Germany:

1. By applying for advertised Phd positions in your area of interest. That can be found on Daad here: https://www.daad.de/deutschland/promotion/phd/en/13306-phdgermany-database/ They are mostly fully funded. Just follow the instructions and apply.

2. You need to connect with a potential supervisor that works in your area of interest. Now this is quite difficult. Because, you need to search for schools that do research in you area of interest, then visit their websites and track down the names and contact addresses of as many professors as you wish. Then send them mails, asking them to supervise you. You can send to as many as you wish. Meanwhile, you must get your well packaged CV and research proposal ready. Send both alongside the mails. Then wait for response. Most times these professors do have funding opportunities that are not known to the public, just waiting for capable students that can take them on. But you have to be very patient. your replies may not come in soon. But summer holiday is your best bet. They are less busy now!

In my own case, i was quite lucky. Because my ex-lecturer had his Phd here, so fortunately i was also interested in the area similar to what he worked on. I spoke with him, he then connected me with the man i'm working with now.
I sent an e-mail to him with the documents i mentioned earlier. After some time he responded. It took a while though, but i was patient. After showing interest in me, he then later suggested i bring up a proposal in another area of research different from what i earlier sent but inter-related. I didnt waste time, i prepared it and send within 48 hours. We chatted back and forth for over a year before i landed here. I tried applying for Daad scholarship through his assistance but didnt make it (going for it again this year)

You need to sell yourself to any potential supervisor. Package your CV very well. Thats the only thing that tells them who you are and what you can do!

Doing another Master? Well it may sound like an easier route because once you are in the system already, it's far easier to pursue your Phd study directly. There arent many students doing that, so opportunities abound.

However, why waste another 2 years doing Masters again...except if its in another area, i dont think its necessary. Why not just chill, take your time and follow the process i highlighted. If nothing comes up by the end of this year, then you can think of using the Masters option.

Hope this helps!

U are not totally correct, NUC Removed the pass from the nigeria grading system,
Two things I would like to point out
1. This doesn't affect those who have already graduated as it takes effect from this year.
2. This does not affect the grading system in universities. university of ibadan will still maintain her 7.0 system, uniben her 5.0 and the likes.
And I agree with eke40seven as 3.0 still amount to 2.5 in the german grading system. I know of someone with this cgpa in the winter 2015 and unassist.ev said it is 2.5 I won't mention who.
Shalom!!
