Just a note.

You can compound on FGN bonds also. In fact you get to compound twice in a year instead of once with TBills.

To compare objectively, if you are not compounding one, you should not be compounding the other...

e.g. Using 100,000 naira as an example at the same percentages you have used above and for 5 years. The following is what you get at the end of 5 years

1. FGN: 210,946.73
2. TBills: 192,541.36

Note: I have not considered any other information besides what you have above as I treated this basically as numbers. So in actual fact, Tbills may be better than FG Bonds but not by the assumptions made by you above.

YOU ARE RIGHT FGN BONDS CAN ALSO BE COMPOUNDED MY ASSUMPTION IS BASED ON LOW CAPITAL INVESTMENT ............U CANT REALLY COMPOUND UR EVERY SIX MONTHS RETURN.....UNLESS U CAN BUY BONDS FOR VERY LOW AMOUNT ...I AM NOT INTO BONDS .......AS AGAINST TBILLS WHERE AFTER ONE YEAR U CAN REINVEST INTEREST AND CAPITAL...OFF COURSE ...BONDS WILL HAVE THE UPPER HAND OVER TIME WHEN U CAN REINVEST THE INTEREST........PLEASE WHATS THE MINIMUM AMOUNT TO BUY FGN BONDS

That makes no sense. Are you sure this was TBill? Sounds like very low interest fixed deposit.

When they deducted the money in June, how much was taken and how much was left in your account? You should see that in your alert. Was the details on the alert how you arrived at 10.5%, or did you go by what CBN offered for that period? CBN rates are almost always slightly higher than bank's winning bids.
Thanks for d contribution sir... before d bid, i had d total sum of #840,000 in my account, i bided with #820,000 with d balance of 20# in my account...i went with d bank's provided rate which was 10.5% as at then.... even @ d@ my least expected return is 840,000# instead of 831,000# given (d@'z an interest of 11,000# instead of 20,000#).... quite sure it's t.bills

I have no idea sir. I don't buy bonds or Tbills directly. I deal in that market via mutual funds.

That's approx 5.38% on 3 months, even lower than most FDs. How did you bid with N820K and had only a balance of N20 when it was successful? Something doesn't make sense. If the bank was offering 10.5%, then you should've have around 21.5K (minus custodian fee) in your account upon a successful bid in June.

I've never heard of FBN messing up on TBills.

Hi house,
I invested in T-bills this week from GT bank as it was clear that next week is Oct 1st and this week was actually published on the CBN schedule for primary auction.
As I type, nothing has happened yet an
d my capital is still intact.I'm happy sha, only I had planned to do some stuff with the interest this weekend.
My question is,why would GT bank approve collection of bids for primary auction this week if it was clear that Sallah was going to be observed? I don't know if I have to cancel the bid on Monday or not, anybody in the house who has experienced this sort of dilemma should please advise on way forward.
Happy weekend,Barka de Sallah

You guys should relax, your money will be debited on Monday or latest Tuesday...
The salah break caused the delay...
...its not GTB problem, rather CBN issue...

Unless they make drastic changes to policies, or the nation ceases to exist, TBills and bonds have always been one of the safest and stress-free investment instruments.

When you understand how this works, you realize why even banks discourage their customers from doing it. The chance of what you're thinking of happening is very very slim. Recession will actually cause the interest to go up, as FG looks to give higher incentive for borrowing from her citizens to stimulate the economy. That's what these things are: FG "borrows" from you to finance projects or mop up excess money in the system.

Would like to relate with you on the subject above. How may I add you?

I just stumbled across this post. And I need someone to shed more light on the duo. FGNB & TB... pros and cons. U seem vast on it, so, I wouldn't mind to share in your wealth of knowledge.
