bigfrancis21: I didn't say it was valid... I also said what I thought, based on my real life experiences. Also a lot of people from all over have told me they wouldn't feel comfortable living in the East, as opposed to living in other peaceful parts of Nigeria. Tribalism is prevalent all across Nigeria (And Africa), but for various reasons, some groups have higher prevalence... Do you honestly think Hausas igbos and yorubas exhibit tribalism in equal doses? |

BlaqCoffee109: Aww...you have a thing for Igbo guys. Love nwantinti. . Keep searching sha. You'll find someone. Have you considered dating a Yoruba guy? Or are you open to dating only Igbo guys? If you're going to marry an Igbo guy, you had first learned to spell his tribal name properly - 'igbo' and not 'ibo'. 11 Likes |

Aareonakakanfo: I know that we are all guilty of tribalism. But ..... In my opinion, the average urban Yoruba is exposed to Igbos and Hausas, while the average eastern dweller not as much. The average Northerner is a muslim, who disregards anything un-islamic. You know what they say.... ignorance breeds bigotry, it is easier to disdain something you are not familiar with. 3 Likes |

BlaqCoffee109: lol.... I am not taking this agitation for Biafra thing serious, Abeg. All the signs of a serious secessionist movement are lacking..... for me, I just see it as a cyclic phase of dissatisfaction. The current movement will wane, and then another rabble rouser will take its place. 1 Like |

scholes0: The only tribe who will have issues with living in the east is the Yoruba because they are hardly independent minded and enterprising enough to travel outside their region to survive. Also, many are discouraged by the tough competition that must be going on in the east, given the tough competition the Igbos are giving in Lagos and other SW states already. Then also, some Yorubas also carry so many false impressions about the Igbos or Igboland in general and hardly ever travel out to visit other areas, especially Igboland. Igboland is some mysterious Island, some unthinkable place where aliens live and land is scarce. Many Yoruba corpers who are posted to the east redeploy back to the west after camping, even when nobody is pursuing them. They redeploy just because they want to go back to their zone, where they feel comfortable in. On the other hand, Hausas, Ibibios etc have no issue at all migrating to the east to live. In the East, you'll find thousands, if not millions, of Hausas living and doing their businesses peacefully. Many of them have been allocated lands which they established their own community and some of them speak fluent Igbo. The crux of the matter is that the average yoruba man feels insecure when he is outside of his own region. He doesn't feel comfortable when he is not in the midst of his own people. The ones that travel to the north happen to be muslims and fitting in in the north is not an issue for them. It is not an issue of not feeling comfortable in the east. Lots of non-Igbos are residing peacefully in the east. 17 Likes 2 Shares |

scholes0: I.m.o the urban Yoruba even though exposed is not exempted. What i will agree with you on is the fact that its subconscious. Most educated Yorubas that I know don't really care or hate ibos or hausas per se as in going around carrying it as an emblem or something. Its mostly when it comes to marriage and business matters. 1 Like 1 Share |

bigfrancis21: You see...... That is one place you are wrong. There are THRIVING yoruba communities in places like Kaduna, Minna, Benin Etc. If I should go by history, Yoruba and Hausa communities were the first to transplant themselves in other countries, before the Igbos started mass migration. There are also communities numbering into the thousands in places like Ivory Coast, Ghana (Tamale, Accra, Kumasi) and further afield elsewhere. they just avoid the east, where do you get this notion that the Yoruba isn't independent or enterprising enough to survive outside his region? 7 Likes 3 Shares |

BlaqCoffee109: That's one good way to work your way into an Igbo guy's heart and is definitely a good step in the right direction. Make sure you perfect yourself in that such that no Adaobi or Adamma is better than you. You'll also be open to learning the Igbo language as well. This is often another source of issues against Yoruba ladies as some of them, from experience, who had married Igbo guys were unwilling to learn and speak Igbo. Some of them try to subjugate the Igbo culture and raise the kids in the Yoruba culture only, forgetting that Nigeria is a paternalistic country and kids are by first and foremost identified with where their father is from. One would often wonder why they married an Igbo in the first place when they would not be open to the Igbo culture. On the other hand, Igbo ladies married to Yoruba men tend to embrace their husband's culture more than the Yoruba ladies are willing to embrace their Igbo husband's culture. 17 Likes |

scholes0: You dey mind am.The igbo habit of travelling is not because they naturally are,its due to circumstances.Prior to the civil war,how many igbos were outside the country.Ijebu people have been travelling outside the Yoruba kingdom to do business before Nigeria was even formed Back to his alaigbo-made claim that yorubas are hardly independent/enterprising .I'm still wondering where he got the notion that igbos are more enterprising than Yorubas.Do i need to be a trader for you to consider me independent? Are freelancers relying on Government? Are yoruba bricklayers, carpenters, vulcanizers, taxi drivers collecting money from government? What is the difference between the so-called "independent" traders and the ones i mentioned above? Are we saying there are no igbos relying on Government? Bigfrancis i need answers 3 Likes 2 Shares |

Aareonakakanfo: She needs a hardworking and rich man (nwoke ji ego) who will spoil her all her life, send her for compulsory shopping to Dubai every summer, send her to obodo oyibo for ante-natal and childbirth, open one happening boutique for her in VI, buy the latest Honda models for her, send her kids to the best of schools, spend lavishly on her na nta n'imo niine. Igbo men know how to take care of family o. Now tell me why anybody wouldn't want an Igbo guy as husband. 8 Likes |

Aareonakakanfo: Visit the east and confirm the way of life there. The average Igbo man hardly believes in relying on anybody or the government for survival. He must seek out a way to make his own money. I never said there are no Igbos depending on the government for survival however, the percentage of such people are quite a small number compared to the level observed in the north and certain areas in the south west. 2 Likes |

scholes0: You barely mentioned a few places with 'thriving' yoruba populations. However, Igbos are scattered all over Nigeria. There are THRIVING Igbo populations in countless places in Nigeria. Their populations in non-igbo states come second to the population of the natives. In those areas you have mentioned as having 'thriving' yoruba populations, i'm sure Igbos in those areas outnumber the yorubas, if not thrice their population. Not only in Nigeria will you find Igbos, but all over Africa, Europe, Asia etc. This is only a tip of the iceberg that indicates the independent mindedness of Igbos as a whole. And when you said Igbos love to travel because it is just the way they are, yes that's true. That is the independent spirit I was referring to earlier which Yorubas have but not to the level of the easterners. It is a driving force within Igbos that make them want to travel out to other regions in search of business opportunities. 3 Likes |
