filimontana:Members of your specie are quite rare here. I have friends of relatives planning to study medicine in Germany. After persuading them to do something else, because I can't guide them 100% until I got there...them no still gree but my knowledge of the medical applications is limited except for the studienkolleg route which is quite a difficult and long process. Here are my guidelines from what I know. I told them to attend Goethe, (99% of the MD courses are thought in German) they are in A2 now and their target is B2 at Goethe, and may be C2 in Germany. Attend a university, NOUN preferably get at least your 100 level result in a medical, biology or biochemical related course with good results (at least 4.20/5.00) Or optionally, write an A level exam like Cambridge A level with Chemistry, Biology and physics as main focus. Or option C...studienkolleg, which takes quite longer. And one will need at least 1.3 in German grades from what I heard to stand a good chance. Can you polish the points above or write your own guideline assuming the person is coming from Nigeria in this case. 2 Likes 1 Share |

@ Eke40seven: I think the easiest way is studienkolleg, because they will also learn German for two semesters. So i don't see it as a waste of time. You can get admission for med with 1,8 and also they don't need B2 for the Aufnahmeprüfung ( entrance exam), they only need B1. If anyone can pass his or her WAEC without stress, then studienkolleg shouldn't be a big deal. Eke40seven: |

Can you pls give a breakdown of the studienkolleg thingy for those interested from your own experience. filimontana: |
Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by filimontana: 6:21pm On Sep 27, 2015 |
We were 650 foreign students when i went for my entrance exam. They had only 22 places for M course(Med,Pharm,Bio related department), and the other 3 departments had 22 places each. That means out of 600+ foreign students, 88 students passed the entrance exam. I did Bio,Chem,Physics,German and Math A level...everything in German. We were 22 students when we started, 16 students finished the foundation program. Well , the students from middle east that came with 1,0 (100% or A1 lol) high school result couldn't finish, because most of them didn't use their heads for the results they brought to Germany. I wrote a Feststellungsprüfung (an assessment test) after the second semester (Phy,Math and German), and that was my final score. The final score was added to my NECO result and divided by two. I applied for admission with the points I got from the two exams (NECO and Feststellungsprüfung) and had offers from 4 Universities. 12 of my friends from the Studienkolleg are studying medicine and the rest are studying pharmacy. So it's actually not complicated, you can also work during your studienkolleg. All I will say is that the best way to get admission for a first degree in Germany is through studienkolleg, because the Germans trust the system. Anyone can come here with A level he or she didn't write . Let me know if you still need any info. Ayo GottSeiDank: 7 Likes 1 Share |

filimontana:Great insights..I just felt, it was gonna be easier passing an exam in English considering how difficult these courses can br and at a faster pace than writing them in an entirely new language. Meaning you will have to face the problem of comprehending the course on one hand and the language in which it is written in on the other hand and also the long process of studienkolleg, especially when you fail to pass at first. However, I get your point completely. Thanks for breaking it down the way you did. |
Re: General German Visa Enquiries Part 2 by GottSeiDank: 7:03pm On Sep 27, 2015 |
Good job @filimontana for the breakdown. At least this studienkolleg thingy is clearer now. For those interested in the program, there you have it. Good luck filimontana: |

Degovmob: Because in my 18mths here in Germany I ve nt seen a self funded phd candidate...Its either you re on scholarship or a university employee..Truth be told graduate sch is no beans and your research will ve an impact on society so its fair for phd students to get stipends or part time contract (Research or teachin assistants). Also the cost of living for a phd students is nt same as a masters student..you will get the semester ticket to move around after paying your semester contribution but I doubt if you will qualify for subsidized accommodation by the studentenwerk ( varies from sch to sch). Your insurance premium will also be different cos Aok will nt accept you as a student .and your health insurance will nt be 81 euros...Unless you opt for private which I strongly advise against.so you see the cost per yr will be above 8K euros multiply by 3.5yrs thats abt 28k euros...If most europeans re to pay this money they wont go near the university...they cant afford it simple as abc...you need to see the shock in my classmate face when I told him I had to deposit 8k euros in a blocked account before comin to germany..his response ur parents must be very rich ( fear nor go even let me tell am say na me fund myself). AFAIK as a phd candidate you re required to attend at least one conference per yr ..and also make presentations and publish papers( Journal fees re on the increase )...in ur case as self funded student who will incure this cost? Also the idea of you workin and doing a phd will nt fly....Phd thesis is an original research and requires devotion ...People who re funded and devote all their time finish their phd in 3 yrs, some more and take abt 6mths to write the thesis before the disputation...in total we lookin at 4yrs. Excuse my rants....in Summary... I understand your zeal to come over to Germany for a doctorate degree..but please do not allow anyone to take advantage of you...In a country where masters students writing thesis are been paid I see no reason why you shld start a phd self funded.my advise is this. Search for more supervisors in your field and send unsolicited applications .......there is alot of money flying around in sciences..and you will get a position ..I m sure of that because you C.V must be good for your current supervisor to even consider you. Search for new graduate schs and research insitutes and check open positions. Check research insistutes like Max planck Fraunhofer Gesellschaft Hitec Visit the daad webpage there re loads of scholarhip offers there...your supervisor can apply for some for you. I will check some for you and post them here. I hope this helps. All the best Man P.S at this stage (after your masters) you deserve to be paid to read any material or do any research 10 Likes |

Cindino20: @Cindino20,thanks a lot for your detailed information. Scholarship is really the key. Chai, my brother, our people are suffering in the UK. They pay 10,000 pounds per year in tuition fees alone and around 7000 pounds per year in living expenses. Yet,Germany which I know does waste management more than the UK has loads of scholarship opportunities. My brother, please keep looking out for such opportunities for me. |
