Pls, for the form A, what will the naija specialist doctor write? For those who had done this, what was d content? Was it a refer letter? Can a private consultant - ante natal doctor, prepare this letter? Thanks. |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by FinanceFitness: 10:58am On Sep 27, 2015 |
I got mine from my regular hospital where I registered for ante natal, the obstetrician/ gynecologist wrote it on their letter head. They just wrote a 'to whom it may concern letter' that I was their patient in respect of xxxx and will like to continue the treatment in the US. They accepted this and processed but later called me to modify the letter to exclude that I will like to seek further medical service in the US. The thing is since it isn't a referral letter, it becomes subjective depending on your bank and the staff processing it. jacklenst: |

@sleem2015 congrats on the birth of your baby..yea elpaso might be boring if you stay mainly around your area...try out Buffallo wings its a bar not to far from walmart the one opposite intown suites..The night life there is cool, lots of clubs around that area too, except you are not the outgoing type then you can visit bookshops and the hills of elpaso. 3 Likes |

@nasadiva, Congrats sis, God be & bless you both. shawlar: You are not correct about the hospital point... Mine insisted ONLY on guaranteed instrument of payment;either cash or Draft/money order, they don't take Cards or even American banks' issued cheque .. I tried to use Form A, was told to add it to the numerous scrap papers in my hand bag.. On your 2nd point, you are totally correct...one needs to be short of a fuse or two to do swift transfer with BM forex. @ozycy & @firsttymum. Chase bank ATM doesn't charge Stanbic & GT cards an extra cent... To do two transactions in a day (while in the US) without loitering at the ATM or making a repeat journey,, one just waits till it's 11:55 naija time, do one, chill for 5 mins for it to turn past 12, do another, give it a 24hrs break then return... Seems I'm the only one that enjoyed stanbic's 199.5 & 207.. ... @ KayLayChi, How borry? 1 Like |

[quote author=modath @ KayLayChi, How borry? [/quote] @ Modath, I'm gud here only say MTN no gree me enjoy my data so most times I can't chat. As per the form A, I tried using it but was told that because of the scarcity of FX that I need to get a referal letter that the treatment I'm going for abroad can't be treated by my doctor or hospital and which gynae go write say him no fit do normal delivery or CS, so I no bother. But maybe the banks might be more lenient now with all the new FX policies... |

what is your advise? NL. OK am back again after a few months and some of use know my story if you have been on this tread for a while, madam used MMC just like ewa2014. and baby was born sept.18. 2015. madam tried hospital to accept VACS.but it was a no no. at last baby was big so we had to result to CS. when baby came out wihout our consents baby was taken to NICU. explanation was that baby crp abi wetin dem call am was fluctuating so his body was fighting bacteria infection. rather than give him oral so mother and baby can go home after 4days. dey placed him on I.V and insisted that baby must complete his 8days dose b4 his discharged. so many ugly incident happen like hospital asking for $350 b4 baby can be given the circumsit. we refused and so will have to do it naija style on their return. now baby now home with mother and well. now the challenge- MMC is asking me to pay $13600. for cost of baby being in NICU. since I don't want Medicaid. and saying I have to pay it complete payment within 6month if not it will attract charges. us this true about Medicaid? and what payment plan can you advise as I will be speaking with them by Monday 5th. Oct. when I will be depositing some money as down payment for the NICU. please help advise am really disturbed with this development. (we have payed all other outstanding hospital charges. $(8k + 1.2k +1.1k). mamas and papas I didn't see NICU coming. very sad. but life is most. shld I insists on 1 or 2 year plan? what's my right on this please help. |

How did d baby get infected? I'm sorry I'm a little lost. And then can u negotiate the bill.? And make them give you a discount? Plus they shld b able to extend the payment duration. So sorry for all this dear.... It is well |

firsttymum: @first. Virginal birth after prev. CS for 1st child. thats what madam asked for but dey bluntly insisted on CS., saying dey can't risk doing that from their own experience. the infection story till now is still amazing to me, well read about it that could be as a result of mother eating some wrong fruit. could also be as a result of streptococci abi na wetin dem call am. see medicine confuses me most times. our argument even from her aunt who is a nurse was that this antibiotics could be administered orally to baby at home and monitored. but see this guys are just after the money they never stopped mentioning Medicaid which I also didn't stop saying no to. its a tough experience in so short a time. |

MMC is a very funny hospital. They are so quick to mention Medicaid. Whilst researching them, the forms they sent to me boldly reads in case of any emergency, Medicaid will be activated. I just 'unlook'. My two cents is this 1) Meet with their financial manager for a negotiation chat. Negotiate well and make sure your pay more than 50% of the initial sum. Read that some where here 2) let them know if they can't give you more than a 6 months payment plan, they would be creating an herculean task for you which you doubt might be overcome. State clearly you are going to pay and won't be taking Medicaid. I sincerely hope you get favir back home to pay up. algfred: |

algfred: So sorry about the extra cost. Birthing in US is expensive. As rightly said above you have to negotiate and also ask for discount, if you did not ask it will not be granted, so ask. For a neonate that has infection that child will be treated with iv drugs not oral, even in a standard hospital in nigeria that is what you will get. No sane pediatrician will treat a new born with infection with oral antibiotics. 10 Likes |

Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by firsttymum(f): 11:54pm On Sep 27, 2015 |
algfred:now I gerrit. The choice of IV was the best thing o. Neonatal sepsis from whatever form ( might be mild or serious) is best treated with iv jare. Like I said earlier get ur negotiating game up and tight... I wish u all the best. Once again negotiate and then give them ur own time frame. 2 Likes |

jacklenst: You need documents as listed by Finance Fitness. However I went to GTB last week to enquire about Form A but was not given a definite answer. I was told the process may go through in either 1 month, 2 weeks or even some days. I can't work with such uncertainty so I didn't use the Form A anymore. What's the point if you can't prove payment of bills at POE or show cash because it's stuck in transit in GTB? |

Now I understand why Justwise retracts some seemingly innocent posts even if it may not be so obvious to some of us on the thread. I really don't understand why anyone would act so nice, even going to the extent of putting up an email address all in the bid of 'giving back', when all you are interested in is doing business! ××Rant over!!! Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 2 by favoredgal: 5:54am On Sep 28, 2015 |
algfred: Sorry bout your ordeal. Pls ask and insist on a discount and a flexible payment plan. Your discount can be more than 50% doesn't matter. Also ensure you collect zero balance for the once you have paid on full so far that is for the mum and hospital. It will come in very handy Big hug P.s dint they test her for gbs in the third trimester? I remember I tested positive so they administered anti bacteria to me during labor to prevent the child from getting infected. It is well 2 Likes |
