Hello mamas, I have been reading post on this forum for quite a while, but I was triggered to post myself by some comments I was reading. When a doctor says you can't deliver a big baby cos of the weight it's not absolute but he or she says it cos you might be one of the unfortunate ones who suffer consequences for such action. Consequences to the mother vvf -when you can't hold pee, limping from damage to sciatic nerve, separation of the public bones, that's the bone below your abdomen, rectovaginal fistula pooing thru the vaginas, cervical tears which can cause severe bleeding, vaginally tears and so on. For the baby , it could be death, a low apgar score this could lead the child to have things like cerebral palsy or mumu, low iq, sepsis this can also lead to death of the baby, shoulder dystopia after delivery of the head the shoulder will be stuck, bone fractures, nerve injuries which could lead to paralysis of some part of the body and so on. So please when being adamant of vaginally delivery of a big baby think thoroughly what you would prefer to be alive with a healthy baby or otherwise. Ensure your pelvis is adequate for such birth. To me a healthy mother and a healthy baby surpasses these risks. Thanks. My 2 cents by the way I'm a paediatrician and I have seen lots of cases. For d case at hand, d baby isn't even up to 4kg. To tell u d truth, some drs flash d cs card to mothers cos more money s involved. For this particular case, I don't see anything wrong wt her trying vaginal delivery first.

you didn't assess her pelvis, you don't know the type of pelvis or diameters of the various distance in the pelvimetry. For some women a 3kg baby maybe too big for them. You assess the diameter of the baby's head to the mothers pelvis. It's not a static thing it's different for each woman

Try yo sleep with pillows on your sides to prevent you from flipping onto your back when asleep to avoid what happened in 1968 from repeating itself biko.

it's the inferior vena cava the big vein that returns blood to the heart.

Most mothers have an innate intuition when it comes to the health and wellbeing of thier babies, and if she says get guts tells her the doctor is wrong ,she is most of the time correct!
Your in put is very welcome don't get me wrong but since you haven't physically examined her then please suggest and advise her to seek another doctors opinion before agreeing to an elective cs based solely on the assumptions that a 3.8 kg baby shouldn't be delivered vaginally.

you can estimate pelvic adequacy with height, do you know if the pelvis is gynecoid or Android. The best way is either a clinical or radiological pelvimetry

good day sabi mamas....I am 5 ft something....my shoe size is 40,41.d doc didn't do any examination. all he did was use a tape to measure my bump and said my baby is too big.i am presently at an ultrasound clinic now for a scan.will drop d result later.all the same, thanks for ur words of advice

Fastfoward to 25th sept,i ran frm PH 2 Aba where i was using b4 i took in cos i ttc for 2 nd half yrs nd the doc said i shld nt worry let watch.on 25th by 7am light contraction startd my anuty advice i shld go 2 hosp on getn there was checkd on checkn me my water broke nd i was 5cm already . By llam Doc came nd insertd drug in me.i saw angels by 2.40 my princess came out with tear.lt ended in praise

You should say you weren't happy with SOME people advising her to discount.....
I for one asked her some questions and advised her to ask her doctor alot of questions to make an informed decision.
Anyways, welcome on board. Good to have a paediatrician in our midst.
