My Story As An Underemployed Graduate In Lagos by Sylver247: 9:39pm On Sep 28, 2015 |
I read a story from this section that made front page about a guy (abi na girl) that said his aunt is begging him to take a job with Jevinik with 80k salary and free acomodation. he said hes bin jobless for a year and needs advice whether 2 take up d job or not! That thread realy anoyed a lot of people including myself. Ok a little story abt myself. Am a graduate with 2:1 and guess what my salary is? 45k! and i spend 7k on tfair every month with a very wicked boss who sees himself as God. I got dat job after a year just like dat op but unlike him, i hustled hard for dat job which i saw here on nl, had to even borow money for tfair. but dat my boss is the reason am still on dat job cos hes preparing me for sth bigger, i wont run away like others. there are a lot of things i ve learnt and am still learning dat will come very handy very soon. 75 Likes 5 Shares |

So how does the other guy seeking for advice on whether to take a job or not have anything to do with you and what is the purpose of this thread of yours in particular? 25 Likes |

@Sylver247 Your story is touching and I am sure a lot of people who are in similar situations can relate with it. You shouldn't be surprised that more than a few job seekers would still give "an arm and a leg" to have your job. The situation is that critical. I have found out that being positive and having a spirit of gratitude can help one to make the most of any situation. When faced with serious challenges at work and giving up looks like an option, a former boss used to remind us that many people would gladly take up our roles, even at half-pay. He said this not to spite us but to remind us to appreciate what we have until a better option comes up. Perhaps, as you suggested, your current employer is unwittingly "toughening" you for your next job, making you a more valuable employee. 10 Likes 1 Share |

Your own better, hold it tight... The situation in Nigeria is so worse that many graduates are even begging for teaching job where they don't pay more than 20k just to survive. May God bless our future and present! 1 Like |
