Someone who is 18 years of age is an adult in most if not all countries of the world, the girl in question is an adult who freely gave her consent for the marriage. I don't understand why ignorant and barely-lettered people are calling this noble man a paedophile. I think all this brouhaha stems from the endemic tribalism and distrust the south has for people from the north. There are burning issues in this country that we should be discussing, and the rationale behind the decision of 2 adults to get married isn't one of them. 5 Likes |

I really do not understand Nigerians. What is anybody's business with this issue. For those of us who grew up in the core north and understand the Fulani culture, this is not strange. 1. The Emir to be must marry 4 wives. 2. 18 years is a reasonable age for any lady to marry going by a woman's biology. 3. The Hausa Fulanis really do take care of their wives more than any tribe I know except for the ability to divorce sharp sharp which is not possible in this case as it is family above everything with the fulanis apart from religion of course. 4. Most times if not all the time, the educated Hausa fulani mans wife completes her education in her husband's house I know because I am a lady and was born and bred in Adamawa and in Yola town to be exact close to the caliphate. 5 Likes |

ddippset: They were not violated as children they are ashewo and runs girls, they do it for the material gains thereof. The age at which one is allowed to marry is 18yrs , and where consent is present any two individuals irrespective of age can marry, You failed to tell me the age gap between Bianca and Odimegwu Ojuku. Many idiots just want to shout and rant online with this child not bride issue, how old was Omotola Jelade when she was wed, her husband must be at least 8 years older than herself, what have you to say of that. Sincerely if people married off earlier in life maybe we would have less of these issues of sexual immorality among young people. 6 Likes 1 Share |

TonyeBarcanista: Let's leave Consent out of this else the VVF stories, Yerima saga and co would be a slap on our faces as Nigerians. Which consent does a girl up there even have? She was born into the system, probably bethrothed from infancy and SLS is shouting consent? He should allow her a 3month holiday, free her to socialise outside her kin, expose her to Social media, then give her the choice again to marry him NOW and forever. Then we'll talk again. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

happney65: Lamido is old enough to father that young girl. Was capt Ekeinde Old enough to father Omotola Jalade when he married her? Have u ever read her story? Did u not come across the part where she said her mother objected to the marriage cos she considered it early. Thats is the difference, Omotola wanted it for herself, she went for it. But in the case of this young girl, it is not like that. Am sure the consent they said the young girl granted to the marriage request was because she knew she can't really say no. We all know that a female child has no say in that part of the country. Plus was Captain Ekeinde married to four wives and with gazillions of kids before marrying Omotola? You can try to justify Emir's action with religion and culture, its fine. But its a mistake to compare it with Omotola's early marriage. 2 Likes |

zoelife: The legal age to marry in Nigeria is 18. Isn't it? Didn't you read where he said that she'll be heading to the UK for studies? Being the Daughter of the Adamawa Monarch, and a PHD holder, do you still think that she wasn't exposed enough? This isn't an issue to me 2 Likes |
