Amazingly, I live in alpha beach, quite close to the beach because I can see the beach from my house because palm trees are scarce there. I left my house this morning around 9am, I never foresaw anything like this happening. Now I think the government has to do something before it becomes uncontrollable. Over the years, the condition of the beach has been deteriorating and nothing is being done....

I see no reason for local government, because the eti osa LG sectariat is right in alpha beach and they keep folding their hands over everything happening there including the bad roads.

During your pre purchase or pre building due diligence, did you include a surveyor as part of your acquisition team? Or did the sea just upped and moved towards you?

Ehyaa...I sincerely wish the government would do something quickly about this rather than leaving them to suffer on their own
You want hear the truth? there is NOTHING the government can do, even if they want to help. This is a yearly occurrence, from September till November/December water levels in the Ocean, inland waters, creeks, Lagoons and riverine communities and areas close to these mentioned body of waters in Lagos usually rise and it is not even due to rain as there isn't much rain in Lagos this year. It is practically impossible to build a barrier wall around these body of waters especially those inland waters (creeks and lagoons) which are jagged and snake through countless communities. I live on Onisiwo Island and It amazes me how water gets to areas you consider high ground during this period but it's not this bad on my island. Sometimes water do get to the wall of my house due to a small lake that is at the back of my house. This lekki Ajah axis yearly flooding is far far worse than on my Island which affects only a very small part. This is why I don't like that Lekki-Ajah areas.

Eko Atlantic is doing the exact opposite of that.
It is protecting the people living further inland. Remember when VI used to get flooded almost every year?? what stopped it?

Eko Atlantic project is not offering any respite to the inland people. The course has changed frighteningly, people and properties are still affected. It might seem as if people living around the Bar beach and environment have respite but time will tell.

Residents and villagers of Alpha Beach area of Lekki are currently battling flood. This is a yearly reoccurance and this years is the worst it has been. Houses are being submerged in water, people are made homeless and cars are stranded.

Year after year residents in this environment cry to the Government for help but it keeps occurring. All the businesses on the beach are now under water and are currently unemployed. A country as strong as Nigeria yet we cannot handle the annual flood crisis. Billions of dollars are spent on the Eko Atlantic City all in the name of a Mega City or is it luxurious living yet the poor are suffering.

I hope the office oqf the Governor of Lagos sees this or better still The President sees this. This is not change, nothing has changed, we need change, we want change.

Photos are attached.

Don't be an iidiot!

Eko Atlantic City is not being built by the government or with public funds, so why do you refer to it?

Are the government suppose to force private investors to protect your building with their private funds?

Really, you might not be suitable for public office or any office of responsibility that is. It's because Nigeria does not have a working property insurance system otherwise the state government would be so much indepted they'll smarten up
do you understand property insurance and its rules.you want insurance companies to pay damage to property as a result of natural disasters.you employers for sack you tey, tey!
this a a natural phenomenon, the property owner are on their own.

That's not the question, I have been living there for about 11 years now, and believe me, back then the beach was at its best and there was nothing like ocean surge then. It all started in 2010. And,since when the surge has been happening, it has never reached my house because it isn't too close to the beach.

So insurance companies do pay for damage to property due to natural disasters.

But it amaze me by the hues and cry. after all, you all know that you are building inside the water and should be prepared for the consequent. There are several places outside alpha beach and in lagos that are still dry land. There is no amount of cry to the government that help you. RELOCATE! RELOCATE !! RELOCATE !!!

That's the question that I have. I take it that you didn't foresee coastal issues since you did not hire a surveyor.

Compare that to the value of property damaged, multiply it by 10 for the effect over the next decade. Now do you get the big picture.

The great wa of China was not built as a monument but a necesity, same for the walls encircling large cities in northern Nigeria, when there is a need you do what is needed

Banana Island is on the Lagoon, shielded from the Ocean by Lekki peninsula. Tides, if at all, are minimal on the Lagoon. Ocean surge maybe somewhat unlikely.
My take though.

There has always been ocean surge at Alpha beach even prior to 2010. I live close and have been visiting the beach for over 15 years. Years back, coconut trees lined the beach and you'll walk through several rows and an appreciable distance to get to the coastline. Due to ocean surge and gradual encroachment of the land, all the coconut trees and the coastal road linking Okun Ajah has been eaten up by the sea! The Sea is just closing up on you now!!

It is called act of God and nothing the govt can do about this. U should stop blaming govt for everything. People living in the bay area are aware of risks of ocean surge. This does not only happen in Nigeria, remember hurricane Katrina that happened in the USA in 2005 killing thousands and destroying properties worth more than $100 billion. Also hurricane Irene in 2011 still in the USA destroying properties worth about $60 billion. These things are act of God and little can be done to prevent them. If u are living close to the ocean, u should be aware that these things are bound to happen.

Do u also blame the govt in the event of earthquake or volcanic disaster?

Banana island has the lagoon as its water front, they are out if danger for now. Unless we have an upsurge of tide on the lagoon, it's nothing to worry for now. If you have a property on the ocean view, then you can worry.
