Hi guys, I did my medicals with IOM on the 10th september and communicated with them some days later and was told the report has been sent to CIC on the 15th. However, till date I haven't heard from CIC which got me confused if I passed or not.

From the trend on here it seems like folks do get medical passed alert from CIC after two days. Any suggestions pls....

I'm not sure what that means to a PhD but it is relevant to a master's ( came across it in the Master's degree guideline). You might want to send an email to your intended school to clarify.
What I am aware of is Candidacy Examination for PhD students.
alright, now the candidacy examination does it mean like defense of thesis?
kindly reply

Relax, looks like CIC is taking rest after the crazy peak period that just passed. It's been taking more time to grant trv after medicals....unlike before that took 2 to 7 days after they received medical result.
Just calm down, and u'll be fine.

Hello house. I will gladly appreciate anyone respond to better enlighten me on these query.
I turned down two admission acceptance from two colleges for PGD because of each course being a one year program(workpermit) as instructed by my sponsor. having pressed for two yrs course(three years workpermit)I finally got accepted yesterday but to a course which is not my first choice(embedded system development).please is it possible to accept and beat the chances of the work permit with the course and maybe take up a year or swap for my previous acceptance which is still open.

You can still apply to some colleges but you might end up finding yourself in the rush hour. So these are my suggestions, apply to a school with two years program, while you are waiting for their offer, you use one of the colleges now and process your visa and by the time you get to canny you can switch schools. Or alternatively you can do two different one year programs with a view to get your post graduate work permit.

I think it depend on the type of application. For PNP is not more than two weeks.

Fund available will be rent plus miscellaneous expenses. To be at the safe side take rent to be $1000 and other expenses to be $350 per month then multiply it by the number of months your program will cover.

If it is undergraduate, do we multiply for all the 4 years?

Hi Supermum, I will like to know when the school says PhD comprehensive exam what do they actually mean?
Thanks

PhD comprehensive exam is a compulsory exam for PhD students 2 years into their programs. One has to prepare very well for it cos of you fail to pass, you won't be able to proceed to complete your program.

You're typically tested in all areas of the course you're studying, and you're questioned till your breaking point (more like drilling) but not to fail you. It's more intense than PhD thesis defense.

Finally, the good news is that if you prepare well, you must pass it.

Honestly, the possibility is very low but not impossible. Since it's your passion, you can come back to Naija and lecture after your program.

Hey sir, the bosses to answer the question rightly and swiftly are in the classroom now struggling with lectures, assignments, quiz and upcoming midterm examinations /final exams.

My best advice is for you to go thru this thread from beginning of part 8 at least... You'll get useful info more than you can ever imagine from spending few days doing that.

I think you just highlighted some of things that some other NLers have tried to point out in the past.

Getting an admission doesn't depend only on your grades, it's the whole package: your grades, your experience, your knowledge of the field of study, your ability to research & to develop a favorable rapport with the academic advisor.

I'm glad you got the information you needed. As for those who promote PGD, don't blame them. They speak from their experience. Some applied to several Masters programs and were denied thus their reason for counseling others not to try. As for your friends who were denied masters admission following PGD, I'm sure there are other variables that contribute
As @thesoj mentioned, I'm at McGill and open to help.

All the best with your admn & TRV process

Hi,so you are saying that it is possible to get masters admission after pgd? Is pgd really a waste of money? Isn't it enough to get you a job in Canada?
