A lot of question marks has been raised in recent times about the motive behind majority of my criticisms of the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government. Living in absolute truthfulness to our Nigerian nature, most keen followers of my social media comments have come to the chronically deficient conclusion that I must be one of the numerous agents of the PDP, commissioned to continually discredit the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. This judgement is as wrong as it is unfair. I am a Nigerian who thinks everyday of ways to put my government on its toes so that the people can further enjoy the dividends of democracy. I believe when we keep talking and turning the heat on, government will learn to keep working. Even at that however, I still do personal checks and balances to make sure I am still working and writing within the confines of patriotism.

On a day like this one when I feel a mental desire to check my deepest beliefs against a set of existing realities, I often have to ask myself concrete questions that might lead me into clear justification of the thought processes from which my previous social media posts emanated. Today in the course of my checks and balances, I sat down and asked myself a very important question; Can Buhari Fail?

He has been touted a saint by many of his keenest followers who wants even the global community to believe Buhari is the long-awaited messiah sent to liberate our nation from the shackles of bad governance. These followers are sometimes so convincing that one tends to momentarily forget that Buhari is indeed human after all. When the question, ‘Can Buhari Fail?’ popped into my head today, instead of answers, I got even more questions. These questions I will throw to the social media community in this piece and hope that we can all do justice to them together and jointly forge ahead in united understanding of the possibilities that the future holds for us.

CAN BUHARI TAME THE GANG OF POLITICAL ROGUES-TURNED-SAINTS THAT HE IS PRESENTLY TRAVELLING WITH? If Buhari is presently undertaking his political reign in company of people who were definitely part of the alleged ‘sixteen years misrule’ of the PDP, what chances can we say CHANGE have in this government? What CHANGE can the iron-fisted OBJ facilitate when he was indeed the midwife of the misrule that the APC melodiously drums into our ears day by day now?

CAN BUHARI EFFECTIVELY MANAGE THE NIGERIAN ECONOMY? If Buhari’s present body language is anything to go by, it is clear that he clearly favours a government-regulated economy over a market-driven one. The CBN, clearly under instruction, is everyday trying to use administrative measures to stabilize the Naira instead of allowing the market to determine it value. Can a welfarist approach to the economy management augur well for a growing country in a capitalist global economy?

CAN BUHARI CURB THE EXCESS BORROWINGS OF THE STATE GOVERNORS? If PMB could have restructured the unscrupulous loans taken by the State Governors under GEJ and then granted them bailout as another loan, can we trust him to curb the excesses of these State Governors who are bent on borrowing their States’ ways into irredeemable debt? If after granting bailouts to these States to pay salaries, PMB could not in his usual domineering style monitor the utilization of the funds, can we safely believe that he will be able to control the flimsiness of these State Governors?

CAN BUHARI STRENGTHEN THE REIGN OF THE RULE OF LAW? The 1983 presidency of Muhammadu Buhari is widely different from his 2015 reign. In this era of democracy, every good intention must still be adjudged legal before it can be right. The raid of the DSS on the residence of Sambo Dasuki; the raid of the same DSS on the official residence of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State; the ominous silence of the EFCC on the prosecution of the likes of Timipre Sylva and Buhari’s release of FG funds to the States in clear contravention of the provisions of Section 80, Chapter V of the Nigerian Constitution begins to raise the question, ‘does PMB have any regard or understanding of constitutionality in the running of government?’ Can he really strengthen the reign of the rule of law when his government has been noticeably deficient in some cases?

CAN BUHARI REALLY INSTILL DISCIPLINE IN OUR SECURITY OUTFITS? The sudden re-appearance of Policemen on the country’s roads is disturbing. More disturbing is the fact that these officers returned to the countless checkpoints on the orders of the Inspector-General of Police. If road users now have to groan under the excessive lawlessness of these officers manning these checkpoints, one begins to wonder, can Buhari return sanity to the Nigerian Police as was witnessed during the days of MD Abubakar? Can Buhari call the Nigerian Army to order on their media propaganda about the war against insurgency? Can he tell them to stop lying to Nigerians about winning the war when BH insurgents are waxing stronger everyday?

CAN BUHARI PROBE THEM ALL? Yoruba people believe when a snake is cut in half, it becomes deadlier than when it was whole. If Buhari will be selective in his fight against corruption and end up not fighting it wholesomely, can we expect to get a corruption-free society under him? Will he raise the hand of Audu Abubakar in Kogi and that of Timipre Sylva in Bayelsa as flagbearers of the APC when they have pending cases with the EFCC? Will he hide the lies of Rotimi Amaechi under his cloak away from scrutiny and claim to be fighting a comprehensive war against corruption? If he will not probe them all, will he not leave corruption deadlier than he met it?

CAN HE HANDLE THE BURDEN OF RESPONSIBILITIES THAT A MESSIANIC REVERENCE FROM PEOPLE PLACES ON A LEADER? When people’s expectations become too high, it becomes inevitably possible that the leader will be incapable of satisfying them. Now that Nigerians see a Messiah in Buhari, does he have the Midas Touch enough to wrought the sort of magic that people expect from him? Can he handle the heat that this sort of reverence turns on leaders? Has he learnt from GEJ’s loss that allowing followers expect too much from a leader eventually makes the leader a failure in their eyes?

Can Muhammadu Buhari give us all these and still be human? Can he summon his superhuman abilities to satisfy these desires without fail?

Can he? Will he?

He's a failure already.

1. How do you define failure?

2. when is buhari resigning?- probably after 8years of cleaning out the mess that your father and mentor GEJ created, and repositioning this country on the path to greatness.
Hope that answers your question.

Mr. I am not required to keep silent. you are talking of economic achievements when the man has barely spent 5months in power yet your mentor spent 6years in power and we are busy cleaning up his economic and financial mess.

the only economic achievements of Jonathan existed only on paper and in the minds of his deluded fans and followers.

remember that the fg had to borrow funds to pay federal workers earlier this year, a first for Nigeria since Amalgamation in 1914.

when jona took over power in 2011 dollar was #155, when he left in 2015, dollar sold for #230.

As per security issues, how many local government areas were lost to boko haram during GEJ's time, about 5 or 6. remember also that our soldiers were No better than boys scout sent to face terrorists. now can you see the difference? if you cant, then I really can't help you.

I am sure you are still being fed by your parents, if you were working, if you see Jonathan, you will stone him to death gaskia.
