When a fulani man wins the chairmanship election in 2007 in jos, how many hausa's and fulani's are killed just because one of their own won the election instead of the native jos people? Why didnt u include that in your write-up?
we all have problems and we just have to understand our difference b4 this will end. This will never end by just criticizing one tribe and the other we are 1 let us unite.

I would like to focus your attention on the topic of this thread. Forget everything else.

In reference to your attempt at legitimizing Fulani's carnage in Yorubaland....you will be given plenty cause for that, trust me. You have one more chance to shed blood in Yorubaland, at this point it doesn't even have to be a Yoruba blood....any blood!

We are slow to act but trust me, the response is always swift and heavy on enemies.

this is probably an area where Buhari will have to be taken to task. he can't pretend he doesn't see or hear what's happening.

maybe if fulanis are killed in their numbers in the south west then he will be forced to act.

this is a laxity on his part that is baffling.

people think the yorubas are cowards, I am yet to see the tribe in Nigeria that has fought as many wars in the pre-colonial era as the yorubas, am not talking of village squabbles or ordinary riots o.

Your kind of blame game and attempt to factionalise the Southern resistance will only bolster the impunity of these descendents of peadophiles and adherants of the creed of terror, and pay us with a far worthless coin.

When Balewa and Sadauna of Sokoto were destroying the Yorubas, Nzeogwu and Ifeajuna came to your aid only for your people to turn against Ndigbo.

If Fulanis come against Ndigbo, we will not go seeking Yoruba help as we have grown to know that Yorubas will never be there for us.

The SOUTHERN RESISTANCE you wrote of, was needed on 28th march 2015, but yet again, Yorubas teamed up with Fulanis.

Honestly. Is it that Buhari does not know what his brothers have been doing all over the country?

There is a reason he led a delegation to Governor of Oyo State, Lam Adesina. The instance was a declaration by Agbekoya to completely wipe out Fulani herdsmen, first in Oyo, and then outwardly in other lands in the Yoruba Commonwealth. Adesina made him and his crew looked foolish. Olubadan intervened and got Agbekoya to back down. Agbekoya is a cooperative of farmers in Yorubaland....sort of a indigenous labour union for farmers. They are more lethal than Afenifere.

Add to that, when OPC went to work and started killing Fulanis in different states in Yorubaland, instead of retaliating in the contingent Yorubaland, they ambushed and almost wiped out a Yoruba village in Kwara. In response OPC went up there in Kwara and annihilated two Fulani villages....not a single soul was left alive, from the oldest to the infant nursing on its mother's n1pples. They herded their cattles down south to Ibadan as spoils. Emir of Ilorin interceeded on that occassion.

Afenifere has issued a directive....and Im certain Agbekoya and OPC have been notified. Afenifere has issued notice to the traditional rulers as well to guard their domain. Yorubas are upset, Fulani is about to get a whipping....this could very well lead to what would become of Ilorin throne and its bloodline.

Fulani would first be endangered before we the owners of the land become endangered on our own soil.

The line is drawn!

Yorubas have had numerous squirmishes with Fulani. I dont remember when we ever called on any other for support. I dont know why this should be a rally for Southerners at a point when we are smarting for a chanced opportunity to demarcate permanently the true borderlines of Yorubaland and uproot all flags belonging to Nigeria.

Yes, Yes, the big Mayor - salute.

I think we've been too engulfed with Igbo problems, when the real enemies are the Fulani savages. The Igbo might be greedy and covetous but at least they don't kill Yorubas with impunity like these barbaric monsters...and we need to pay them back in their own coin and show them that there's grave consequences for killing just one Yoruba soul.

Yorubas have been fighting Fulanis since the 19th century and we can't lose sight of these people and their agenda. While we deal with Igbos on one side, Fulanis also have to be dealt with based on their crimes.

Aresa,
I understand the article was penned by an Iboman. His summary is self-evident in the landscape. Benue has lost more lives to Fulani than they have to bokoharam, same in Plateu State, Nassarawa, Niger. Na only Fulani waka come? What is more frustrating is where do we even place them....their nationality is very fluid.

I am Yoruba first before I am APC. My allegiance to Yoruba is a stronger and permanent bond, APC is only a vehicle for my engagement in partisan politics and so on issues that hurts my people, I dont care about Buhari or APC. To be blunt, I hear comments about Falae's abduction being a national issue, no it's not....it's a internal issue for Yorubas to resolve and FG should not be drawn into it.

These folks seriously need to fall back. They can't just let some overzealous and savagely idiots keep killing innocent folks with impunity cos they have a mentality that they own the country and can't be touched. They bleed just like everyone else and they should let folks show them that no one has the monopoly of violence.

After seeing the clown vying for the Ooni throne go to Kano to meet some inconsequential Emir - I've my doubts about these Yoruba Kings, to be honest. A lot of them are just political moles - not proper traditional Yoruba Kings. So when it comes to the nitty-gritty of self-protection, folks might need to start disobeying these moles to protect themselves.

In January 15, 1966 coup, soldiers from every region of the federation (Nzeogwu - Mid-West; Ifeajuna -East; Ademoyega - West; Kpera -North) had staged a coup in which soldiers and politicians from every region of the federation (Akintola: West, Balewa: North, Unegbe: East, Okotie-Eboh: Mid-West) were killed. Their ultimate aim was to install and make Chief Obafemi Awolowo the ruler of the country and quell the 'Operation Wetie' that was ravaging SW region where Lagos, the seat of power, was situated.

Unegbu was the GOC of one of the major army barracks. He was Igbo, and he was also the guy who almost frustrated the first coup of 1966 by refusing to release weapons. For his refusal, the Nzeogwu group killed him.

Recall that soon after Nigeria got independence the Western region was in turmoil, codenamed “wild wild west” characterised by election rigging, thuggery, violence, arson, mass murders and other forms of corruption and acts of lawlessness, that occasioned the January 1966 coup, took place as pioneering acts in Nigeria.

Remember, prior to the first coup, by 1963, the plot between Akintola, Tafawa Balewa and Ahmadu Bello was perfected and Chief Obafemi Awolowo was arrested for coup plotting/ treason. His trial commenced in earnest and he was alongside some accomplices convicted for treason and jailed for 10 years. This again was the first alleged coup plotting and conviction in Nigerian history. Intent on totally decimating Chief Awolowo, Ladoke Akintola together with vice premier Remi Fani Kayode went into a political alliance with Prime minister Tafawa Balewa and new political party known as the Nigerian National Alliance (NNA) was formed.  By this time Dr Nnamidi Azikiwe had realised the folly of entering a coalition with Tafawa Balewa’s government   and teamed up with incarcerated Chief Awolowo’s Action group to form the all progressive grand alliance (UPGA).

When Northern soldiers staged a revenge coup in July 1966, soldiers from one region of the federation and their people (North: Danjuma, Murtala, Martin Adamu etc) singled out soldiers and civillians from one region (East) in the federation as their targets.

Here are the members of Yoruba tribe that participated in the January 15, 1966 coup:
(See Ben Gbulie: ‘Nigeria’s Five Majors.’).

*Adewale Ademoyega is the most prominent Yoruba participant in the coup, there were other Yoruba officers who were involved at the dangerous execution stage of the coup. One of them is:

*Second Lieutenant Olafimihan, an officer serving under Madiebo in Kaduna. He was sent by the plotters to gauge his commander’s loyalty. (See Madiebo pp.17-18).

*Another is Lieutenant (some books refer to him as a Captain) Fola Oyewole. He, like Ademoyega, went on to fight for Biafra and wrote a book on his coup and wartime experiences. The book’s title is ‘Reluctant Rebel.’

*There is also Captain Ganiyu Adeleke who became an instructor in the Biafran Infantry School. For confirmation, see the list of coup plotters detained by Ironsi’s regime in Ademoyega pp.106-108, and this quote from Nowa Omoigui’s online account: ‘Mid-Western Invasion of 1967’: ‘Captain Ganiyu Adeleke, who had taken part in both the January 15 coup and the Mid-Western invasion before becoming an instructor in the Biafran School of Infantry was released at a later date after his co-plotters had been freed.’ Omoigui’s work is significant because, though he exhibits a high level of professionalism in his research, he has no sympathy for the January 15 coup. If his facts corroborate Ademoyega’s they are worthy of attention.

....Somehow, they will find a way to tell their contemptuous south south neighbours how there's a grand conspiracy by the hausa-fulani /Yoruba to marginalize them because of their oil, They will alert the Yoruba how the hausa-fulani has orchestrated plan to invade to islamize and colonize them. They will tell the middle beltan how the fulani has been killing their people without Buhari's response.
Haba Igbos, na only una Waka come? Can't you figure out that no Nigerian is telling you something about the so called fulani agenda that you've make us all to dread? I am from benue state and i can confidently tell you not to cry for us as we are known veteran warriors. It is also noteworthy that the media chooses what to report probably because of interest, if not to any one my people that is killed by fulani herdsmen i assured you that they've lost close to ten men and hundreds of cows . this is only verifiable from the locals and not the media. .....

Guy, I understand where you are coming from, but I have chosen to respond only to the highlighted parts of your post. Yes, the minorities in the middle belt from Benue, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba etc., have done thier best over the years, to keep the Fulani herdsmen at bay. undecided

But people are getting tired. Many of these herdsmen are lawless and do not care about the damage and mayhem, caused by their cattle to the farmlands and properties, belonging to communities in the Middle Belt. They should have been called to order, a long time ago. Unfortunately no one is doing anything about it. Should the middle belt have to sleep with one eye closed, because of these marauders? NO! angry

Every law-abiding Nigerian going about his lawful duties, is entitled to security of life and property, especially in his ancestral home. And the security agencies who are sworn to uphold the law, should be made to provide this security irrespective of whose ox is gored! Unfortunately, this is not happening at the moment. shocked sad

The question we should ask is why?? shocked Why have our leaders turned a blind eye?? A few people have proffered reasons for this anomaly. Kindly read this excerpt:

THE STRATEGY OF GRAZING RESERVES AS AN EXPANSIONIST TOOL

As earlier stated, it is not a secret that one of the greatest passions of the Fulani is cattle. It is so important that a man’s societal status is largely dependent on the size of his herd. It is unFulani for a Fulani man not to own cattle. One thing that is hardly brought to the fore, though, is that most of the real owners of cattle in present day Nigeria are not really the nomads roaming the wild and our highways driving millions of cattle, but wealthy business barons in the cities and corridors of power. These men hire the nomads to take care of their cattle, while they give attention to issues of religion and politics.

It should, however, be noted that, one of the major and traditional sources of wealth for these people is cattle. The Cattle business is a multi-billion naira business in Nigeria, and it is owned and controlled mainly by a few barons of the Sokoto Caliphate. They have formed themselves into an association known as Miyetti Allah Hore or more popularly Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN). It is also worthy of note that the Sultan of Sokoto is said to be the life patron of the MACBAN group.

Aside from being the father of all Fulani, and himself an owner of a great herd of cattle, he is a major stakeholder in the cattle business in Nigeria and stands to benefit directly from any profits made from cattle. This is aside of his being the father of all Muslims in Nigeria. Little wonder the Sultan has always been quick to personally wade into anything that concerns cattle herdsmen or Muslims in any part of Nigeria

Global warming resulting in unusual climate change with all its attendant consequences has unavoidably led to a rapid depletion of grazing fields in the traditional Northern home states of the cattle herdsmen. Urbanization, deforestation and desertification have sent panic among the cattle breeding business community, not just in Nigeria, but further north in countries like Chad, Niger, Mali, Mauritania, etc.

Added to this, political upheavals and civil wars have resulted into a gross state of insecurity that has threatened the business of cattle rearing. The consequence of this development is that herdsmen from further north have been compelled to look southwards for pasture for their cattle, which might probably be in millions of heads of cattle.

The resultant influx of these illegal aliens, who are many times well-armed, violent and perhaps, even radicalized, has even been acknowledged by the Federal Government of Nigeria. This unprecedented influx has, predictably, put more pressure on the largely peasant middle belt population with its very attractive hundreds of thousands of acres of green vegetation and fresh springs of water, which are one of the major attractions to the herdsmen and their cattle.

To the herdsmen, taking over these lands means not just salvaging their threatened cattle business but a major, and perhaps, unprecedented leap in their profit margin. Moreover, the increasing population within the region and further south only means a larger market. The closer the supply to the market, the better! And for their aristocratic masters in the glass houses of the Sokoto Caliphate, taking over this region means more than cattle.

So, once again, even if only for economic survival, taking the Middle Belt became an urgent imperative. The politics of grazing reserves had to be driven with all the power and wit they could muster. The advantages were too numerous. If they could manipulate government machinery to appropriate land in all the 36 states and the Federal Capital, it would suddenly give them everything they had been longing for.

They would get the entire middle belt and the rest of the country in one fell swoop. The whole nation will finally be at their feet, and it would be a great centenary anniversary gift to their great ancestor, Uthman dan Fodio.

In the past, there was a clamour for grazing fields to be provided to the Fulani herdsmen, across different parts of nigeria. Those wondering why advocates of creating grazing fields or routes for the Fula have suddenly gone quiet, need to realise that it appears to be an unworkable concept.

The Fulani elites will support the cattle rearers/herdsmen, because they are the greatest owners of cattle in the North. So those expecting Buhari to lock up the cattle rearers or herdsmen guilty of kidnapping and causing mayhem in the middle belt, and other parts of the country will wait for a long time. undecided They are part and parcel of the whole problem. angry

There is an unwritten code among Northerners that frowns on confrontation with constituted authority. Where the powers of those in authority are to be challenged, it is done carefully with discretion. The stage is set and consensus is built gently, as discontent swells through the ranks. sad

Any central figure leading the confrontation, also has to be on the same pedestal as those he confronts. That is why some folks will not rush to comment, because the problem is far more intricate and deeper, than it looks. Mere condemnation will achieve nothing, without some measure of action to back it up.

Senator David Mark is from the middle belt. And so are a host of retired army generals and ex-security servicemen. Right now, they are keeping quiet, probably because they are exploring ways of resolving the situation via a diplomatic settlement. When this fails, all fangs will be bared. angry

Like a blogger recently said:. .".Nigerians are being led to believe that these herdsmen are helpless bush nomads with a few hungry cows, that just need to eat the grass that nobody needs anyway. Since somehow their cattle can’t help wandering off into some farm, with, perhaps, some little destruction, which usually incenses a largely intolerant and hostile farming host community against them..." This is untrue. The attacks by the herdsmen appear to be a coordinated response, to win sympathy from the public, but unfortunately it has backfired against them. undecided May their evil continue to fail!

So kindly spare a thought and a prayer for those middle belt communities, who have borne the brunt of the attacks. In my humble view, the Tiv and other Middle Belt tribes should simply be supported to defend themselves and their ancestral lands, from the herdsmen and invaders.
