It does! Just stop with the argument k. Both groups borrowed things from each other, but both have also managed to carve out their own unique looks. @tonychristopher, you are right about the famous akwete. In all, I love Igbo dressing 'cus it's just so regal and beautiful. fratermathy: |

Hmm, you people should take it easy on the OP, he made a mistake. OP, simply correct the mistake, and let all parties move on. On topic. Igbo have no single pattern of dressing. The Igbo ethnic group is made up of different tribes, and each of this tribes dress distinctively, such that it's impossible to bring out a single picture and say that that's how Igbos dress. That picture you used to represent Igbo dressing in this thread, doesn't reflect the way most Anambra groups dress, neither does it represent how the Anioma's who wear "Akwa Ocha" dress. That your Igbo dressing picture( the Nonso diobu pic) looks like more of Ohafia/ Abriba/Bende/ Ngwa/ Aro/ Ndoki/Asa axis of Igboland dress. 2 Likes |

lyntiffany: My original handle was barred and my reply to you hidden, for reasons best known to the moderator. You are right. We tie two wrappers, unlike SW groups. We use beads to adorn our hair or as a headband, ankle beads and jigida- waist beads. We also have temporary colourful face and body tatoos done for occasions - uli. 5 Likes 2 Shares

nwanlecha:Nobody invented headtie. Yorubas have their aso oke gele. Igbos have their ichafu. The silk gele or ichafu is imported from india and China and is mostly asociated with none yoruba groups. Years ago, Yoruba and Hausa ladies wouldn't touch the imported headtie not to talk of using it. These assumptions irritate me. O di egwu. 5 Likes |

pazienza:Yes, Mike Ezuruonye is from the Old Bende,so he dresses like them when he wants to go traditional. Being a star actor,am sure he is given the leverage to inject his style in his wardrobe. That being said, his attire does not necessarily reflect how all Igbos dress but how modern Igbos dress with the isi agu shirt, trouser and wollen cap which is substituted with red cap around the Anambra axis( without the Bende belt of course). Other than that, throwing over a simple wrapper whether akwa ocha or george whether over the shoulder or on the waist still stands for all Igbos as the may be. As for the women, both single and double wrapper are used. If we reached back into the past, you would understand that 'Igbo fashion' was much more flamboyant and uniform than what is presented today. So to say that Igbo dressing is modelled after Edo is a great fallacy. 4 Likes |
