coogar: Quote me anywhere. Earning 35,000 pounds before tax is living paycheck to paycheck. Unless you don't live in a one room apartment. That's the amount new immigrants need to make to be eligible to settle in the United Kingdom. Probably you think you are talking to someone from a village. How many people in the United Kingdom have 5,000-10,000 pounds in emergency savings? Young man no need jumping on your feet or insulting, swallow the bitter reality that UK. is not all that. The first 2 million richest Nigerians live and made their money in Nigeria. Nobody abroad is in the first 2 million. http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/jun/24/new-uk-immigration-rules-will-you-be-affected 3 Likes |

I rather live abroad and do alright with less stress and good life than to live in nigeria with plenty money and suffering. In Nigeria; to get a pizza or buggar, I have to get to palms first or everyone has to shop at shoprite with stress of moving from your area to the island or ikeja. 1 Like |

ayodele234: you are indeed from the village...... £35,000 per annum is well above the poverty level and this is why theresa may wants only the rich immigrants in the UK. what percentage of the people living in the UK earns £35,000 per annum? i doubt it's more than 20%.
what has this gotta do with your outlandish remark that £35,000 per annum is living from pay check to pay check. the median annual gross wage in inner london is even less than £35,000......and that's central london where the highest wages are paid in the entire UK. the median gross wage of the entire UK is only £22,000. so how can £35k be considered living from pay check to pay check when the breadline(poverty line) is £22k?
is this one of your theories that you pulled out of the rectum of a baboon? i guess mike adenuga isn't among the first 2 million richest nigerians then according to your obtuse analysis.
this is irrelevant to your point. you are actually making my point with that. UK immigration is technically telling you there that only the rich migrants who can contribute to their economy would be immune from immigration control. if you earn £35k in the UK, you are rich! 2 Likes 1 Share |

Ilaje44:Well from the detailed analysis you gave about the UK, I thought you were based there. Well, I am currently doing a Masters in Engineering in Germany, and although I would love to work here as the place is very orderly as you mentioned, I feel I would easily make it to the very peak of my career in another region like the US, Canada or Australia. Then again, there is the language barrier, and the heavy taxation of residents which the German economy thrives on. |

I have spent a great deal of time in the US. I have seen veterans begging on the highway in Texas as well as the dirt poor who can not afford necessary medications let alone dental care. If the US healthcare was great there would have been a push for Obama care. Sorry but it is actually the US that is not all that. Go to Santa Monica beach and see the rich on one side but the beaches filled with homeless at night. The rich in the US live well just as anywhere else in this world the rest is just hype from what I've seen with my own eyes. Let me not even get started with the police killing black's like its a sport. For most black people the US is still a plantation. 1 Like |

it baffles me how anyone can equate 35k pounds to N800k! what is equivalent of one pound in naira? multiply by 35k! So, for example, one pound equals N250, multiply N250 by 35k (that is 35,000), this equals N8,750,000! Olodos |

coogar: Average salary for a teacher in inner London is £37,400 a year, a head teacher could earn over £100,000 a year, starting salary for teachers is at least £22,244 – or £27,819 a year, just to put things in perceptive https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/why-teach/competitive-salary-and-great-benefits I'm sure that teachers in Nigeria earn that much or even higher.. |

people who make £3m a year are complaining. complaint isn't even the yardstick here. humans are insatiable. however, it's a known face that anyone who earns £35k per annum is considered rich in britain. you can rant till the cows come home, it wouldn't change the fact. Obiwannn: a british pound is about N350. 35k per year is about N12m. so you are saying anyone earning a legit N1m a month in nigeria isn't in the rich bracket? really? 1 Like |

kenny2face: Stop converting currencies. You guys know nothing about economics. Poverty is defined by where you live. It is very clear most Nigerians are clueless because you always convert currencies then think how how you will be spending back in Nigeria. Your 35k pounds should be defined by UK. standard which is nothing. It will take someone making 35k pounds over 10 years to save for a 20% down payment for a average 200k pounds house in London. Someone making just 200k monthly in Nigeria will build his house in less than 7 years. In America if you earn 12,000 dollars a year you are living in extreme poverty but some clueless Nairaland poster will see 12,000 dollars and think that's like 2.5 million. Married couple who make 25k usd are consider to be living in poverty in America. Do you guys know someone making $150,000 can't afford to pay for a private college for their kids? People who make 150k take loans to send their kids to school. You guys need to learn how the western world works 5 Likes |

ayodele234: you are a bush man! it's obvious you have never been opportuned to travel abroad. poverty is defined by where you live - and the brits have clearly defined their poverty(breadline) as £18,000 per annum. £35,000 per annum wage belongs to the echelon of the rich! if you have any proof that says otherwise, kindly print it here and stop these ridiculous conjectures borne out of your lack of exposure and beer parlour gists.
you are being ridiculously out of touch. not all houses come with 20% down payment. actually, you can get mortgages of only 5% down payment. i have seen plenty of folks who didn't even drop a dime as deposit before owning their houses. there is also interest only mortgages and when all else fails, you can rent a house.
and what would be the quality of that house? would it's tap run hot/cold water from the water main? would there be stable electricity? would there be functional landphone or direct access to broadband internet? if the answer to all these is no, then your N200k per month salary investment is not on a house, it's a shed!
stop talking like a stark illiterate. you analyse salary by focusing on the minimum wage. the minimum wage in the USA is about $7 per hour. there are 40 hours in a week, 52 weeks in a year. that's already $14,000......so how won't $12,000 be considered extreme poverty when the lowest job anyone can do can fetch $14k per annum? who do you think you are trying to run circles around? try again.....
how can they afford it? when the tuition alone for a private college in the USA is 1/3 of their yearly salary? education is extremely expensive in advanced countries - this is the reason there are grants and student loans everywhere.
in your own case, you need to step out of your cocoon to learn how the western world works. you have not displayed any iota of knowledge concerning how it works abroad. save up and find somewhere to go this year and stop listening to motor park gists from clueless folks like yourself. 4 Likes |

The Edo-born said he arrived in the U.K in 2000; and had worked as a store assistant and security guard. He now works as a cab driver with a major transport company with chains of businesses all over the U.K. I [b]ABSOLUTELY hate hearing stupid comments like the section that was bolded!!! For goodness sake WHAT is wrong with being a taxi driver? Why should the reporter ask such a dumb condescending question? Nigerians need to stop thinking that certain jobs are undignified. As long as a person works hard I don't care if he is a cleaner or a taxi driver as his profession does not define him. We need to STOP this condescending attitude that makes us believe that we are better than other people cos we are nit |

I have been feeding Americans since I was just 21 years. Talking about motor park, I have given out over 5 million naira to total strangers since 2014. Since you want to make it personal-they say help and keep quiet but the only reason you are quiet is because you never gave to anyone. 35k salary per year is not seen as rich in the UK. It's a good salary for a single person but you would not be considered rich. You'd probably need to earn over the £90k mark to be considered well off and in the millions to be considered wealthy or rich. It is all relative. 1 Like |
