If you must know, I stock between 800-1000 pieces of fish in a 30 by 40 by 4ft deep earthen pond. What do you think I get after 6months? I get between 1400 to 1700 KG. In essence, the more the space the better the result

There is no way you can make local feeds without having dust.
To reduce it, you need to make use of a lot of flower and molasis
Use a seive to seive the dust from the finer particles
Take the dust back to the feedmill to repellete it for you ( They do it for FREE)
If you like too, you can add the dust to your next local feeds

1. How many KG of Female catfish will comfortably produce 25,000 fries, and how many KG of male catfish will be needed

2. What size of vat[s] will accommodate 25,000 fries

3. What size of nursery[s] will be appropriate to raise 25,000 fingerlings

NOTE: I presently use 1 industrial tank as my vat and intend to buy another two [2] for the nursery

1. By your definition of floating feed, you mean pelleted industrial feed such as, coopens, multifeed, Zeigler, and Durantee, Aquafeed, Vital feed that are produced by foreign and local feed manufacturers for farmers.
The advantages include:
a. Minimal wastage
b. Reduce water pollution
Disadvantage:
a. Expensive compare to locally made feed
b. Formula is constant and cant be manipulate by farmer
c. Some locally made feeds perform better than most imported feed

I hail you boss and permit me to drop my observation concerning this issue of big belly that scare some of us. I kind of noticed that when they grow big belly, it kind of boost their growth at times. Also, if they are of the same size and some grow big belly, its a key to knowing the shooters, so i think and have observed. Above all, I think it shows they eat more than their mates and as a result grow bigger, other things being equal.

My greetings to every member of this inspiring thread. All the bosses in this thread are so wonderful and God in His infinite mercy will enlarge your coast. I will implore us to not just come here to ask questions but to come and drop testimonies on what we have tried and work perfectly. Lets share our findings and innovations. I am inspired by all the expertise of the bosses in the house. Kudos! Pls, all our Ogas at the top, Robonski, Ab1x, and others, don't hesitate to comment whenever you read our findings.

Feed Conversion Ratio(FCR)- It's used to determine if feeds are being used as efficiently as possible and it's calculated as the weight of the feed fed to the fish divided by the weight of fish growth. E.g: If fish are fed 10kg of feed and then exhibit a 5kg weight gain, the FCR = 10/5 = 2.0
NB: FCRs of 1.5 - 2.0 are considered good growth.
Feed Efficiency(FE)- Is simply the reciprocal of FCRs (i.e 1/FCR). From the example above, the FE is 1/2 =50% (i.e 0.5 *100)
NB: FEs greater than 50% are considered good.
Research shows that fish are not completely efficient(FEs of 100percent, FCRs of 1.0). When fed 5kg of feed, fish cannot exhibit 5kg of growth because they must use some energy in feed for metabolic heat, digestive processing, respiration, swimming and other activities.

Their stomach was kinda water or air filled but dey are doing good now..can't find dem again (maybe others have eaten dem sef)..Can overfeeding have any effect on them?? Because they eat anytime I give them even if its 1/2 hours interval and dey don't stop eating until I stop feeding.
They are 4 weeks today and are currently feeding on 0.5mm, Plz,can they pick 0.8mm??

Anyone feeding fish must be observant cos its possible they may not be eating and the feed would just be settling down in the pond which would become waste but as long as they feed on, there shouldn't be any cause for alarm. Early stage of catfish is paramount as it would determine their outcome as time goes on. I stand to be corrected in my opinion. With findings, there is no harm in feeding fingerlings many times a day as long as they feed on. This early stage of catfish is the period where animal protein is essential in their diet.

Animal protein used in catfish are fish meal, meat and bone meal, blood meal, etc. Plant proteins used in catfish are oilseed meals such as soybean meal, etc
Animal proteins are generally considered to be higher quality than plant protein. It must be noted that animal protein is essential in the diet of fry and small fingerlings. And that is why our bosses here have always advice we use protein rich feeds at this stage. Moreover, fish meal does not appear to be essential in the diet of catfish after they reach a size of 6-7 inches.

Findings show that animal proteins can be partly replaced or substituted by plant proteins without affecting growth and feed efficiency. This would reduce cost of production and one would agree that this is the reason why feeds with less protein are not as expensive as the protein rich feeds. Also, role of supplements like methionine and lysine cannot be overlooked as they also aid fast growth.

Palm oil can be applied to newly pumped water in the pond to clear off foam-like substance in the pond. Its good for fish cos in no time, you would be unable to find the oil in the pond. Its a source of energy.

* you will need 2 female of 1.5 kg to 2 kg with 1 male of 2kg brood stock
* 5 vats of 500 ltr can take the 25000 fries at 5000 each. With this you will be able to monitor them well
* the nursery is where the challenge may be. Cos with 1000 ltr you will need to keep just 2000 fingerlings. Some keep up to 5000 fingerlings in a 1000 ltr tank. But my advice is 2000. This will make your fish grow faster healthier and stronger. For this you will need about 12 vats of 1000 ltr each.
