I think with the entrance of Core tv, Galaxy tv together with Rave tv and now Channels tv HD all on KU
the yoke is finally being broken. Let's just keep our fingers crossed.
@George D, with do respect sir, when we are talking about FTA, what we meant are channels that can be tracked with 60cm or 90cm dish thats what i regard as FTA, and again why those nigerian channels most of them operate on C-Band, and u know u must 1.2 meter dish upward to track such channels.

you know to buy C band transponder is more cheaper than ku band transponder ..likewise C band covers more area than ku band! good for feeds channel/re-dstribution in-case of bad weather... and nigeria with tropical climate...

@graphicicon,
If you noticed I specifically mentioned FTA stations that are on KU. But again remember that FTA cannot and must not be limited to Ku band alone or to dishes 60 or 90cm and below.To do this will mean a deliberate attempt to stifle innovation.Besides like odilibe said, take away the initial set up cost, C band dishes remain the most economical to run in terms of coverage and yearly through put.I have had my COMSTAR 3 in 1 for over 5yrs now and besides the occasional lnb and Jack change outs, it has remained ever sharp performance wise.None of the heavy rain storms in these parts have been able to shift the alignment.Whenever any new station comes out east or west, I simply move it to the position and track it without sweat.No need struggling in the sun to add a new LNB or going to buy another 90cm before I can track. It is essentially an install and forget setup.Now, how is that for economy?

@Manir
Try 12264H27500

@Odilibe n George D

Good analysis on the long term n overall benefits of motorized big dishes.

Little or No hazzles after initial installation

@graphicon,
I understand that you look at overall cost from most of your previous posts but let's critically analyse from COST perspective.

For those that love football, Imagine paying #14,000 per month to watch premium channels x12 months = #168,000 for one year then next year, that amount plus possible increment.

On the other hand, installing a 4M motorized pan dish will cost plus/minus #100,000 stat, then enjoyment subsequently

As George D pointed out,
There is the stress of always tracking in the sun/ rain from one satellite to another or installing multiple 90 or 60 cm will lead to loss of valuable man hours and overall poor results in terms of watching football.

NB:
Many folks install big dishes for various reasons ranging from being a hobby to being economical etc.

Mind you some people are genuinely willing to spend that much but have space constraints while others that unwilling to spend that much hide under the guise of space constraints.
Cheers

hhhhhmmmm, am not talking about initial cost, i mean the price is too high, what anoyed most is that almost all the french channels are on KU band, does it mean that French people are richer than us, another thing that suprises me is amos 5 c band cant be track with 90cm dish, and u said c band has much coverage more than KU band, while the c band channels on 68e cannot be track with 60co dish, while the KU ones can be tracked with 60cm dish.

@graphicicon....we know ku band has powerful eirp than C band that gives smaller dish sizes @coverage area than C band due to it's high frequency but ku band only focus on a small area it gets weaker at wider coverage..when it comes satellite coverage i.e footprint,C-band has more coverage than ku band!there are no ku band satellite in-orbit that has global beam coverage while you have it on the C-band example intelsat20@68.5 C band..most ku band satellite beams are spot beams,focused on a particular region..there are no global beam coverage for the ku band on any satellite..what i mean you can use 1.8m-3m dish to track Is20-68.5eastC band somewhere in asia/europe/africa/middle east/australia while this has not been achieved on the ku band example below is global beam coverage @68.5east C band...

secondly you talked about french having more fta channels on satellite DVB well i will take that as french african Tv channels..don't forget when it come to free international channels broadcasting on satellite in africa aside from egypt (http://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/Egypt.html) ... nigeria (http://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/Nigeria.html)has more fta channels in the region even more than south africa...(http://www.lyngsat.com/freetv/South-Africa.html) however most of the egytian channels are on the ku band focused on there region where you can get nigeria fta channels on both C band and ku band..I think it is more clear now!

Cheers!
