************* "Daddy, would you buy meat pie for me?" Sonia chimed to her dad as he lifted her off the bed in the doctor's examination room. "Don't worry about that, hmm? We'd stop by a fast food joint before going home." Tolu promised her as he lifted her over his shoulders. Sonia nodded happily and smiled at her brother standing behind her father. She was really glad to be leaving the hospital even though most of the hospital's staff had been nice to her. She was mostly happy that her dad whom she had always tried snuggling up to was finally around, not exactly aware of why exactly. "So that's it. I hope." Dr. Aladelola told Tolu as he hung his stethoscope across his neck. Tolu's father who had just joined them for barely thirty minutes thought this time the most suitable to express his gratitude to the doctor. Clapping his hands together, he began, " Doctor, I really want to appreciate you for being a great help in this time of challenge. Really, words can't express my gratitude." Dr. Aladelola smiled, "You don't have to thank me, sir. I was just doing my job. I'm a father also." He told the older man who nodded, "I know it's your job but the way you'd handled it shows a lot more than being professional. You saved my granddaughters' life and I'm grateful, doctor." Tolu's father bowed slightly to show his respect to the doctor. Dr. Aladelola knew now wasn't anytime near alright to asking what Tolu intended doing next. He was worried about the kids and the quality of life they were going back into. He would still find out anyways especially after making friends with Niyi who had easily disclosed the phone numbers and addresses of everyone his father could move them to. Everyone he could get close enough to to ask for their phone numbers. Everyone whom his dad called his friends or relatives. God bless his smartness, the doctor thought and smiled. Tayo who had been watching now opened the door for them to leave. He hadn't exactly spoken to Tolu either since he caught up with him at the hospital after returning to Ibadan the previous day on urgent business and he also was eager to knowing where Tolu was headed after leaving the hospital. Most certainly not to Lydia, he hoped. "Niyi, you should take care of your sister, okay?" The doctor told Niyi as they walked out the doctors' office. "I don't have any other choice than to." Niyi said shrugging off and standing by his father who patted his head gently. "He's a great brother to her. I count myself lucky having them as my children." Tolu said proudly as they went on to the hospital's reception, greeting nurses on either way. They had hardly gotten to the hospital's entrance when Niyi pulled his dad's hand back making him stop short in his tracks, "What's it?" Tolu asked not knowing why his son would hold him back. He however got a reason soon enough as he saw his brother-in-law approach alongside......Christ! It was Deola. Striding quickly towards him was his wife wearing a look he could easily say wasn't hers. She could have passed for a Black American especially with her haircut which he mostly attributed to foreigners. But that was just alongside. He was glad to see her and visibly surprised as well. Tayo, his father and the doctor had also stopped in suit of Tolu still not sure why they weren't moving anymore. Deola who had now gotten to them didn't give her husband a second to express his gladness at the sight of her when she grabbed Sonia quickly from him and hit him hard across the face, "Son of a....." She didn't complete her statement when Sonia burst into tears, something the specialist had warned against. Nothing was supposed to trigger shock either emotionally or otherwise if they didn't want her exactly where she was two months before. "Who are you, young lady? And you don't have a right to......" Dr. Aladelola began trying to wrangle the girl free from her mother's grasp. He wasn't in for some psychotic display that would affect a patient he had put in so much effort into. Niyi however cleared the air about her identity to the doctor before even his father could speak, "She's my mother. The one I told you didn't come for us as she promised." He said staring straight up at his mother who wasn't believing her ears. |

Kizzykeziah. Well done with this wonderful piece. Deola is the biggest fool I've ever seen, even mad women fight for their children. There are people in worst situations and still hold on for the sake of their children especially when another woman and children are involved. Please complete the story and let me see the outcome if her foolishness. 1 Like |

There use to be a saying, that goes thus; "if care is not taken, the "prosecutor" will turn "criminal"..." That's exactly what the problem is with that "yeye" Deola, she was once "the prosecutor"(to her children), if proper care is not taken, she will surely complete her transformation process, and become "the criminal" (before her children)... How can a mother, be so stupid and think that, the only way to go about her awkward situation was to leave her kids to the hand of the devil? What sane human being does that? She should even be thankful, that her son address her as MOTHER Had it been it was me ehn, she was just SOMEONE I USE TO KNOW oo Anyway, that's what "unqualified" mother does. Namesake of life, carry on jhoor So, that tolu's mother still thinking that, someone(other than her) is/was responsible for her son's misery? I still dey look am shaa Bring it on dear |

Final Chapter *************** "Young woman, SIT!!!" Dr. Aladelola shouted banging his fists against the table. Tayo and Tolu's father had somehow managed to calm the situation which occurred at the reception and had gotten the young lady into his office before it escalated further. Thankfully, the child was still fine and not yet relapsing into syncope as he had expected. He had however been unable to get her from her mother's hold. She wasn't ready to let go of the child for one more minute. Deola was only inches away from the door, ready to barge out if she had a chance to. She didn't know why the medical doctor would act like he was her father or something. Who knew what he'd been told. Wrongly, anyways. Tolu on the other hand was tapping his fingers against the table so quickly in his nervousness. Nothing had changed about Deola save for her appearance. She still had the same horrible temper that always got things out of hand. Why would she just hit him across his face without a sensible enough reason? He didn't know what she'd been eating in the last nineteen months but it definitely wasn't working well for her. Niyi, their son however was keeping as far away from his mother as he could. He was practically at the doctors' heels, stealing glances at his mother. He didn't know what was going on within her but her just slapping his dad which was the other way round as it normally happened made him fear her now. His fear was greater when he recollected the deadly look she shot at him after his statement to the doctor just outside. "Young lady, if you're ignorant of that child's health condition, then I'll have to warn you that if anything goes wrong with her any minute from now, then it will be entirely your fault." The doctor began seeing as neither party was ready for a simple talk. He could understand better why their home was broken. "You know nothing. She was alright before he took her. This man has almost killed my daughter after claiming to be the better parent and hijacking my children from me!" She retorted instantly. She wasn't going to allow herself take the blames for Tolu's actions anymore. That was long over. "Hijacked? I see you've forgotten you were losing your mind and I had to take my children from you before you inflicted them." Tolu shot at her immediately, his blood boiling with wrath. Even if he had missed her, he wasn't going to be spoken to like something less than human. "Oh, wow! Listen to the tyrant speak. Defending himself easily. You know what? I was so glad to be away. You'd never guess how much." Deola told him in a low tone, inching forward. Tolu's father and Remi sighed simultaneously now. Remi, wishing he had had more time to speak to his sister before driving her here where she freely expressed her new found lack of control. Tolu's father was distraught however. His presage the previous day had been right after all. But his seemingly inability to take control showed he had stayed too far away from his son's family. He had let his wife ruin it to a point where the couple couldn't patch things up themselves. He had just watched, thinking his son would come around and now he had his hands tied helplessly. "You two should grow up for God's sake. Do you even realize how bad things have turned out yet. You're at the hospital where your daughter landed due to your carelessness and you still have guts to throw blames at each other! Huh?!" The doctor cut in again unable to bear their conduct. Even if he barely knew them as a family, he could tell immediately what had happened. Even love couldn't mend a thing between them. They needed serious rehabilitation. "Doctor, I'd handle this, don't worry so much." Tolu tried putting calmly to the doctor. "The way you have so far?! Even your son is so freaked out seeing you together. How normal do you think that is?!" He continued pointing at Niyi who hadn't bugged off him. The boy had cast his eyes down immediately. Scared. Silence fell immediately as they all looked over to Niyi. Deola's eyes flickered over as she watched her son. She remembered him as a much younger child now. The way he'd always come around to her innocently each time, asking when his dad would be home and she would ignorantly ward him off. She had left a gap when she left him with his sister each time, taking their concern for granted. Now at nine, she had succeeded in creating a ditch between them. Her children had torn off her emotionally and Niyi was already portraying that result. "Please, don't let them take me home. They'll fight over and over again." Niyi pleaded the doctor seeing the need for his words. He really didn't want to go back home where the only thing he could do when his parents began their squabbles was to watch. He could recall running over and over again to Mama Sade's house to call for help and how his mum had landed him a slap for involving outsiders in the family's problems. He remembered running barefoot at a time with his sister out of the compound when he thought his parents would really put a knife to their necks. He had run blindly to search for somebody, anybody that would stop him from becoming an orphan. Not even caring whether he stepped over a broken glass or something. He had been so scared that night when his mother went into the kitchen and got out a kitchen knife with a sharp blade after his father had slapped her for challenging him about something. She had sworn then that she was going to stab him and his father had tried to get the knife away from her. He had felt horror when he saw blood on his father's yellow polo shirt not sure from where it oozed. Shaking his head now, he held fast to the doctor's shirt, "I don't want to go back, please." His voice becoming muffled with tears, he just kept his eyes averted from his parents'. TBC....... 1 Like 1 Share |

************ Iya Ruka hissed and took up a wooden seat to sit on outside. After sitting, she placed her arm under her chin and tapped her feet nervously, "How would they say it is over already? Can't he just make the stupid boy's lose his job or something like that? I expect he would have moved in with his mother by now." She said to herself and hissed again. Her daughter, Ruka who had reached beside her tapped her gently from behind, "Maami, se o si? Is everything okay?" She asked not knowing what warranted her mother's anger. She thought she had gone out to see someone. It didn't however look as though the meeting went right. "Ko si jare......I'm fine. I'm just disappointed." Iya Ruka told her daughter. "At whom?" "Not whom but what. It's that Mama Tolu's stupid son. I was told today that nothing can be done about bringing the boy down to his mother anymore. To think everything had been going smoothly since." She continued generating curiosity from her daughter who didn't understand why her mother would wish for her best friend's first son to come down to the town from Lagos where he had been reported as successful. At least until they said he left his wife. "What do you mean, maami?" She asked, eager to satisfy her curiosity. Iya Ruka heaved her big chest and lifted the wrapper to wipe her neck of perspiration, "I did it for you. Then when Mama Tolu said her son was the best in the community. I wanted her to know I could put him down back to your level. It has worked since." She disclosed indifferently. Putting her hand to her mouth, Ruka couldn't believe her ears, "Maami, ah!!" "Kilo ha e lenu? Shut up my friend!" Iya Ruka told her, adjusting her wrapper. "Oloriburuku, Onigbese.....Wretched woman! Up till what point did you intend to ruin me?!" It was the said Mama Tolu who had arrived the scene. She had apparently been listening in to the discussion while on her way to check on her 'friend'. And she just couldn't believe her ears. It was incredulous. How could Iya Ruka, someone she had laid her life out onto try to ruin her? Or better still, succeeded already?! Her son had evidently turned his back on her for almost two years now. Ever since his wife had left, he had told her to her face that he had nothing to share with her. Her wish had come to pass. The wife she hated so much was gone now. Little did she know that her own friend had been at the root of it all. "You're the one who is wretched, Mama Tolu!" Iya Ruka said lifting her huge self off of the wooden low seat. She wasn't ready for an insult even if she was wrong and moreover, she hadn't bewitched Mama Tolu into hating her daughter in law. "How dare you?! So you ruined my son's family and here I was thinking you were my friend!!" Mama Tolu began taking off her head tie. She was ready for a fight any moment as she tore towards Iya Ruka. "You ruined it yourself! No one bewitched you into hating the poor girl!!! Their family wahala was their problem. I wasn't just ready to see him more successful than my children. I wasn't going to sit and watch you dictate to me how to groom successful children, Mama Tolu!! If you want to fight this, you know you would lose, so go home to your bald husband and sleep. Your son seems to have outsmarted his cunning mother!!" Iya Ruka yelled making a mockery of her friend by beating her hand to her mouth and giving a mock tone. ************* Christina watched Adeola for a few more minutes, not sure whether to approach her now or not. After coming over to her house and getting a glass of water, Deola had just stood at the window, watching nothing. Christina thought now to tap her. They hadn't seen each other since almost two years now. The last time Deola had been to her place, she had hinted about Jummy asking her to leave the country with her brother. She had advised against it but not seeing Deola made her anxious about what had happened. Christina later found out she had moved out of the house and now that Deola was here with neither of her kids, she knew something was wrong. "Are you okay?" Christina asked first and on getting no reply still, she tapped Adeola. Deola jolted so bad at reception that the glass cup she was holding fell off her hands and shattered on the tiled floor. "Oh My God! What is wrong with you, Deola? Did you hurt yourself?" Christina said with worry on her face. Deola shook her head as Christina seized her hands to check if she'd cut herself. "I'm sorry about the cup. Really wasn't intending to soil you floor." Deola told her and bent over to pick the shards. Christina stopped her, "I'll get something to clean it up now. Don't cut yourself." Christina said and was turning to leave when she looked back quickly, "Are you crying? My God! Deola, what happened this time?" She said while Deola threw her arms to Christina, holding onto her tightly. "I really shouldn't have left. I should have gone after him and begged if that was to let me have my children back. Now it's over." She said sorrowfully. Not grasping a full understanding of her friend's words, Christina asked her if she had really left Nigeria after their conversation that day. Deola nodded, "I thought I was happy but knew it wasn't total. I knew a part of me was missing but I chose to believe Tolu wouldn't be as crazy as to ill-treat his own blood. I lived the part but never felt the part. Now I'm done for." Deola continued in a tone of regret. "Did he hurt the kids?" Christina had to ask. Even though she still believed Tolu had a great affection towards his children, not that he never did towards their mother. "No," she broke away from the embrace and wiped her face using the back of her palm, "But I returned from Kansas earlier this week, hoping to get my kids and leave but I found out my daughter had been sick and my son is scared of me. He doesn't want me, Chris. And I lost my temper again. I yelled at the boy again and scared them both again. I had to leave there. I couldn't contain myself." Christina this time put her hands on Deola's shoulders, "It's okay. This can be fixed." She reassured but Deola shook her off. "It can't. I have a flight to catch back to Kansas in a week. How would it get fixed if I get back on that flight? I'd lose everything. My children. My marriage. I still care about saving it especially with Niyi and Sonia. I'm ready for anything to be able to have them again. I don't want to lose it all, Chris." Deola said as she turned back to the window. Christina sighed now. Her friend's marriage had finally gotten to the point where one more wrong foot would bring it all down. It was half down already. "Looks like you've made your decision already." Deola turned slowly around, "What?" "You're not leaving for Kansas in one week. You'd get back with your husband and get things running. Give your children the love they need." "Are you crazy or something? I can't be with Tolu anymore. He's betrayed me over and over again." Deola said doubting her friend's sanity. "He cheated just once and your expectation of his betrayal made you mistrust him at once. Did you ever try speaking to him? Did you try to know what else was wrong aside your husband's acclaimed love for cheating?" "Don't you defend him? What is there to expect from someone who gets another lady pregnant? He put our love down the drain right at that instant. I stopped loving the son of a bit*ch that minute his mother disclosed the presence of another woman in his life." Deola told her friend in anger. She had come here for comfort and not for shi*t to be rubbed in her face. "You couldn't do it, could you?" "Do what?" Deola looked at her friend, quite confounded on where the conversation was headed. "Give up on it all. You couldn't bring yourself to admittance that you'd stopped loving your husband. You just hated him not saying sorry. You hated him letting you growl. You hated him watching it all slide quickly and you didn't attempt to stop it from happening. You decided to frustrate him to the ends. You let your kids take the hit hoping it would hurt him that way. And you see what that got you. Misery, Adeola. I thought you were stronger than that." Christina stated straight to Deola's face. It was high time they had a straight talk. "Don't. Christina, I won't let you insult my coming here, okay? And if I've overstayed my welcome......" She began walking to the centre-table to pick up her handbag. "I'll stop being your friend if I don't tell you how I feel. So listen up." Christina said raising her voice. Her words seemed to have a magical effect on Deola who stopped short and faced her friend square. "There's still the humanistic part of you. The thin line between love and hate for Tolu that you crossed can still be crossed back," Deola shook her head at this. Christina had to have lost it finally but her friend continued, "You can still save it if you wish to and I know you're dying to know how to before it's too late. You're just being stubborn." "There's no 'how'." Deola finally admitted after almost two hours saying nothing. Christina had during that time cleared up the glass shards and settled beside Deola without interrupting her thoughts. She had weighed her options and known which was better. "There is and it's easy. Your inability to have gotten remarried abroad shows that you couldn't have. You only put on a fake brave font. So I'll say you should just stay around and get back to being the you I knew before you had your second child. The you that never wanted to leave your son. When you regain your calm head, you'd patch it up. I could come along with you to Tolu and your kids and you would have them with you again. No tempers and all." Christina suggested, all of a sudden becoming the mature one of the duo. When Deola still said nothing, Christina took it as a go-on, "You still have his phone number? We'd start something from there. It's better you take care of it before it's too late and your daughter also puts an image of you in her head. There's still some time to reset your son's thinking. Hopefully." She continued stretching her hand for Deola's phone. She was sure her friend still had his mobile number. Hesitating, Deola held on to her mobile phone. How was she sure it wouldn't fall right back over? She had lost her trust in him totally and wasn't ready to hand it back no matter what anyone said but if it meant gaining her son's trust again, then she would do anything. "Come on," Christina entreated her still stretching her hand forward. Deola handed her the phone hesitantly and she sat back. Every of Christina's words were right after all. But wasn't it too late to save her ten year old marriage? ****************** "He should arrive Abeokuta by seven p.m." Tayo observed as Tolu drove the Toyota Camry out of the bus park. They had just dropped his father to get on a bus back home and were driving back. Wherever that was, he didn't know yet. Tolu glanced back at his children who were really calm at the backseat. Not saying anything, he turned the car off the road to a fast food joint, "Come on, princess. We'd get you something to eat." He said as he brought the car to a halt in the parking lot. "Okay, big guy. Come along too." Tayo told Niyi who complied as they all went into the fast food restaurant. After taking their orders, Tolu suggested on afterthoughts they sat back to eat. He had gotten each of them a pack of fried rice each except Tayo who stated his preference for yam porridge. He had also bought meat pies for both kids as he promised earlier. "Where exactly to now?" Tayo asked his friend the minute they settled. Tolu threw his son a brief glance, knowing now how much effect it had all had on him, "Home." He said simply handing Sonia a spoon. "Which home?" Tayo asked further wanting to know exactly what Tolu planned on doing especially with the scene that had occurred just a few hours before. They had left the hospital with the doctor insisting Tolu called him up the minute they settled at home. There was little the doctor could do, really. Tolu paused eating and glanced at his son again, "Where should we go?" He asked Niyi straight up. Niyi shook his head, not wanting to say anything. "Where should we go, princess?" He asked Sonia who put her hands down beside the table. "I don't know. I don't want to go home. I want another house." She told her father exactly as she had thought. Her brother seemed to agree as he nudged her, smiling quickly. "Niyi, you agree? A new place?" "Yes. Another house is fine." "Then it's done." "Where exactly would that be?" Tayo had to ask. It was okay to consider his kid's choice but he didn't know if Tolu had a different game plan he had known nothing of. "Our new place. It's not yet complete but it has a roof and windows, doors, a floor, a bathroom, a toilet. Let's see, no electricity yet and the painting could come later but it's most fit for us to spend a night. I'd buy a bed on our way now. You'd like it, hopefully." Tolu told them now. He had thought he wanted the building completed before disclosing he had commenced building. That was mostly because he knew Lydia might find out and work her way into moving there with him. It had been his plan with Deola before their marriage to move into a building of theirs after a few years in a rented building but the whole situation had made him more worried about getting rid of Lydia. It had halted the building project and he'd left it up until recently when the urge to move out of the house with Lydia had suddenly tugged stronger. He felt choked around her and wanted out of that life. He didn't care whatever his mother said anymore. He didn't feel the least inclined to her anymore. She had ruined it easily up to the point where doing it himself was far easier. "You had a building project on all these while?" Tayo said in disbelief. He couldn't believe his friend could have had the least of such thoughts but he proved him otherwise now. "Yeah. I had to be a little sensible at some point. It's on the outskirts so....." Tolu began trying to show he wasn't the least impressed with himself. He should be worth much more than what he was. He knew that. "No, it's amazing. You have a choice finally." Tayo told him proudly. He was at least glad that the children could have a new chance at having a family. They just needed their mother back, "And their mother? You'd patch it up, won't you?" Tayo asked hoping for a retort in the affirmative. "It's impossible." Tolu said resignedly and continued eating. "It's not. You just have to apologize. The deed might seem done already but it's not broken yet. It's just cracked." "Yeah, you're right. Terribly patched that the very attempt to patch it would ruin it in an instant." "Just try talking to her, won't you? She came back for a reason. I believe she'd agree to a resolution at least for their sakes," he said pointing at the children who had stopped eating and were now watching their father. "She won't. And don't speak like you were blindfolded at the hospital today. I hadn't even said 'How've you been?' when she hit me across my face. You think she would sit because I ask her to now? It's a lost cause. I might have loved her but that's useless when she doesn't trust me. Plus, I was a jerk. A total one and being sorry now sounds 'dummy-ish', okay? Even though I had always been sorry right from the start." Tolu poured out now. He appreciated Tayo's concern as his friend but if his destiny was becoming a single father then he couldn't hide from it. He'd just live it. "What if she calls for a talk?" Tayo began making Tolu think he had really lost it. Why would she call him? She hated him?!! "She won't." He finished easily and went to complete his meal. He had hardly lifted his spoon when his phone began ringing. He almost choked seeing the caller's ID. He looked from Tayo to both children and swore under his breath. "I told you she could call." Tayo said guessing who was calling immediately. He had seen Deola's face when her son had spoken. She had looked quickly over to Tolu in the doctor's office and wanted to say something before she left. If she had the least of humanity left, she would have called before dusk fell knowing now how much involvement the children had. He only hoped his thought was right. TBC........... |

Oh baby dis ur TBC dey too long ooo. Just joking. Keep it coming ur inspiration will never dry. I can relate to deola's case. Wen thing don't work ur way or how u planned it. For the strong ones dey tend to find a way to kool off. Doin d same presently. Am nt supporting her leaving her kids. bt looking at the kids will always make her remember all wat is happening, and she will always transfer d aggression. Wat if she has ran mad. Before crucifyin lets put ourselves in d person's shoe. Srzly most of us will do something worse Dan wat D did. Tnx kizzy |
