Hmm @ GC. ..Dat's where I'm registered for prenatal oh. Cant wait to make my trip, i no wan hear story. Not surprised @ your experience MiddyO(sorry for your loss dear), intuitively I don't feel very confident in their Dr's esp their paediatricians. I will show this to hubby to kill his confidence in them so we can change hospitals. Tho I'm preparing for my second missionary journey, abeg those who have used Methodist Sugarland & were able to pay less than $1500 for anesthesia..tell me how you did it pls. Had my first baby there last year & preparing for a return match @ same hospital cos I can't flaw their services but I can flaw their bills...Besides I called my Dr's(Dr Lee) office to make an appointment & was told his fee is no longer $1500 but $2500..any known cheaper Dr's associated with this hospital and Pd's? Got a bill of over $800 for the Pd's visit in the hospital for only 2 days...excluding visits after discharge from the hospital...can't do that again...Help pls. ..Trying to save some $$$ 1 Like 1 Share |

@bbaby84 GC's paediatricians ain't great. My daughter is 13 months & we've used them since our return. We have just been blessed cos she hasn't had any issues except cold. The few times we met the PD, she sounded like she don't know what she's doing. Besides if you are under HMO, you can't see a PD directly. You must see a GP & he must refer you to the PD if he feels necessary or if beyond his comprehension & trust me, he will try not to. We are currently looking for a good Paediatric hospital & least for our LO, while we stick with them till I make my trip. |

Got into Houston yesterday via British Airways (I choose them cos I intend to stop over in London on my return trip). I got to the airport in Nigeria early and didn't have any issues checking it. Was only requested for my fitness to fly which and I gave them a copy. Requested for wheelchair chair service, but didn't use it in Nigeria. Started using in from London. When I arrived Houston, there were some old people who couldn't really walk on the flight but didn't request for wheelchair chair. As the wheelchairs brought to the door of the aircraft were less one of the attendants operating the wheelchairs said you could just keep walking until another one comes., I said no as I couldn't walk and she asked 'you're having the baby now'? I replied her and said what kind of silly question is that. Anyway I eventually got into the wheelchair and was taken straight to the front of the long que. Cpb- what's the purpose of your trip Me- vacation and medical attention Cpb - are you sick? Me- no, I'm pregnant. I was sent for secondary inspection afterwards and after about 30mins, one of the officers called me and asked if I had a contacted a Dr. I said yes and handed over my email correspondence. After studying it for about 5mins she hands it back to me, stamps me in for 6 months and tells me to keep all my receipts. I proceeded to get my luggage(I had already discharged the wheelchair attendant at this time as it was becoming awkward remaining on it) As I declared some food items, I was sent to Agriculture. all my indomie spices were seized as I had removed them from the pack. One of the lady officers insisted it was chicken indomie that's why I removed them from the packs. I asked her what I was going to do with indomie without spices and she said I shouldn't have taken them from the packs. I insisted that, thats how I always traveled with my indomie but doe where..... My rice was also seized. Every other thing like my palm oil, dry fish, dried Bush meat, all shades of Maggi, crayfish, starch, cabin biscuit, milo, milk, ogbono, egusi, spices, canned banga etc went tru. I have settled in with soulcare (good choice). Got to town via super shuttle. Paid 56 dollars. Was taken for groceries as soon as I got in. That's my POE story. Any idea on how I can't eat my indomie? 10 Likes |

Any idea on how I can't eat my indomie?
Congrats on your poe and welcome dear..... Just use knorr cube, a lil salt and pepper.... with any other orishirishi you normally put like carrots or sardines..... I personally prefer it like this without the spice cos the spice is kinda too tasty for me. Just try it,you will like it. |

bbaby84: I signed them on for my son but I think a lot will depend on if you are a private patient or under an hmo policy. Some of those hmo actually put caps on the treatments you can get. For example I don't use them for my son's immunizations as my provider does not cover some of the so called optional vaccines which means I get to pay out of pocket for those. So I use Kizito for my son's immunisations. All other pediatric care is with GC. My boy doesn't fall sick often but I don't have complaints about the care I have been getting there. They are also close to my house. You can try other hospital though cos like I said earlier, their market seems to be booming and they have a lot of preggies and babies on their list. |

MiddyO: Pele. It must have been a real terrible experience for you. Thank God for restoration. But it still sounds strange to me cos my own experience was the exact opposite. The obgyn im currently using in Dalllas was impressed with the reports and procesures they had employed in managing this current pregnancy. Can I ask which year you had this experience? Cos I think they signed on some gyneas around 2013 when I started using them for ANC. One of them was even the CMD at island maternity and hes been my primary gynea. Very patient and thorough. That seemed to have helped their market cos preggies there are plenty now. Although that may begin to affect the quality of their services soon. But in the final analysis, no human being or institution is perfect. Only God is. May He continue to preserve and deliver us from all evil. 2 Likes |

Hmm - I've used GCH twice for antenatal and I must say they've gotten proggressively worse. With my first, I had a scare at 24 weeks (after waiting for 4yrs o), went to George's in Lekki (which was the hospital I was using)... I was leaking so we just assumed it was amniotic fluid. George's hospital said they won't do a scan to check till Monday, that they won't even have an obstetrician examine me as they are usually unable to do anything is this kind of case. My hubby was so angry and asked for medical report and we moved immediately to GCH. That night, the GPs were amazing - they did detailed scan, confirmed they couldn't see any signs of leakage, admitted me immediately, monitored baby, myself, placed me on antibiotics. The obstetrician came in the following morning and checked me and monitored me for about a week the I was released. It was such a pleasant experience. As it was my first, I was scared and practically got scanned at each visit - they understood my fears and helped calm me. Fast forward to my second pregnancy - they have now gotten so busy that you may have to wait hours to get checked in at the front desk and many more before you can see the doctor. Then to post your lab and scan and results on their system was also a problem. Imagine doing anomaly scan and it not getting recorded. I just went there for post delivery check up - I waited 2 hrs before they even started attending to us despite going as scheduled. On pediatrician, why not try lifeline in phase 1, since they only handle children? IjayMama: 1 Like |

nefertitiram: Some babies are born with dimples and some are given by their mothers or grandmas. Although the dimples on d cheeks won't be as pronounced as if it were natural or genetic. My grandma did some of those effizy stuff on my cheeks, nose, feet, head etc when i was born and i think those features look better than my parents'. Lol I didn't have the benefit of omugwo when I had my son in the US . No palm oil or massage thinz at all. I gave him his first bath myself after 2 days of discharge from the hospital. But don't try it if you didn't have any experience on it before o. Not crazy about the black soap option so have been using simple baby wash and shampoo. And he doesn't have body odour. ..lol Anyhow, for people who are interested , I think there's another thread on nairaland that's dedicated to all these baby care and stuff. You can read up. Blessings. |

Hello everyone, I was here early 2014 and was able to get great info! I used MIHS then. Many thanks to everyone! Anyways, I'm expecting no 2 (due 2016) and I think MIHS is no longer taking international patients? Even if they were taking, their prices went up last I heard. SO going there wont be cost effective cos we have family in Maryland so we had to shuttle to and fro Arizona (before and after the baby). We paid the $2,888 in advance then and only had to pay an additional $1,500 because of emergency C-section (we asked if we could take out our $250 refund before payment of additional $1,750 and they agreed). Anyways, we are thinking of using Maryland this time. Does anyone have any info for affordable hospitals in Maryland? I have not been here in about 2 years so I would have missed if any helpful info had been put up before now. Most likely will just go for a scheduled CS so I can properly plan my time during this trip. Last time baby was 41 weeks and I ended up giving birth via emergency CS, I'm not sure I want to wait again and get to 41 weeks Sorry for the long post, summary is I need help with prices for hospitals in Maryland, for a scheduled CS. Thanks in advance! 1 Like |

August 2014 is fairly recent. And it's also the same 2 gyneas since I started with them. Anyhow, we thank God all that is the past now. May you get double blessings for the trouble of the past. It is well. E-hugs. 2 Likes |
