Forgive me Godmother for resurrecting a topic you posted in 2011.

Godmother:
I saw this on facebook and I though of sharing it here. I have had a personal experience, though mine didn't result in marriage. I wonder why people use prophets at all.

Before I got married to my wife, I consulted a prophet in our church. He was so excited; he wanted us to get married quickly because according to him,
Oyin is the perfect woman for me. God created her with me on his mind! He said we were going to enjoy our marriage, be very rich and receive favor from every angle. He also said we will be envied by many people. I was so excited on hearing that and 10 years ago, I got married to my wife. Though we are not poor, we are not rich either. She is full of troubles and many times I wonder if we were to be married in the first place.

My own case is serious said Tinu, my mother visited a prophet when my relationship with Dare became serious. We were going to be successful and happy together she reported. She told me the prophet said I couldn’t have married anybody better than Dare. That was 5 years ago. We had 2 children and 4 weeks ago we had an accident and I lost my husband and 2 children. I am lucky to be alive. Can God be this wicked?

As for me said Jide, I’m happy with my marriage. I married my wife 20 years ago after consulting a prophet. The prophet said we were going places together. He said we will be happy together and true to his words, great things have happened since we got married. 3 months into our wedding, I bought my first car from the proceeds of a contract I didn’t believe I could get. 5 years into our wedding, we both tried visa lottery and my wife’s was picked. We have been living in the US for 14 years now with our 3 kids. My wife wasn’t even top on my priority list but for the prophet who insisted she was God’s choice for me. She is not even half as beautiful or educated as Shade who I would have married. Shade’s husband died 5 years into their wedding and I’m wondering if that could have been me! I give all glory to God.

I had 3 guys asking me out then, said Bukola. The one I didn’t like at all is the one the prophet chose when my mother went to consult. I was going to have a happy marriage with him she said. Though my husband is trying his best and really loves me, I don’t love him at all and I have been sleeping outside marriage! I am really sorry for this but I just want to make myself happy once a while.
Hmmm, these are true life stories as said by the people involved. We have only changed the names to protect their privacy.

Now let’s get talking. What is the role of prophecy in a relationship?
Re: Prophecy And Relationships by Montaque(m): 5:34pm On Oct 21, 2015
As much as the G factor is very prominent in choosing a life partner, I don't believe in "that someone only destined to be my partner"
Your marriage is as much as the partners make it.

What if the prophecy comes directly to you in your dreams? Do you believe in dreams?

Yes I believe in dreams.
but it's not fool-proof. However what I meant to say earlier is that a person has upto 1000 potential partner who can complement him or her. It now depends on how he or she makes the marriage work.
I also believe there are people who a person can't partner with in a marriage union.

Okay in a situation where you get a confirmation from two or three witnesses, what would you do?

A times, obedience is profitable, and getting married at 40 isn't a curse. She may not have witnessed that age (40), if she had disobeyed her mom's prophet (just saying).

Its still not a proof that the prophecy/prophet is real though.

I don't downplay the God factor. What I am saying is that I don't believe that it's only one person that is created to be your wife or husband Such that if u miss that person, you inevitably get the wrong one.

That's the reason why we should know God for ourselves and train our spirit to hear His voice, prophets are just to confirm.

I believe in myself and I trust myself much more than anyone else. If I need God's guidance, I will find it within myself.

Its safer to pray and hear directly from God.
Prophets sometimes talk according to the flesh not as the spirit directs.

Is it not in ur bible that he wu finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord. Is it dat we don't know the meaning of find again if u don't check dictionary. Every prophecy is limited to the level of the prophets dats Y it's said d spirit of the prophet is subjected to the prophet. No prophet is foolproof so let's get on our knees nd obtain peace based on that oda half also no relationship is without its issues bt we trust God he should lead us true

I believe that prophecy is a wonderful gift by the Holy Spirit and a true prophet is Gods mouthpiece but on the other hand every prophet is not a true prophet. Their roles in relationship? most times, they have NO role whatsover BTW why hope on prophecy when you have the Bible with you

O.p prophecy in a relationship can be either gud or bad but the problem is alot of people allow prophets to control their relationship thru prophecies forgetting that its not the prophets but they who would face the consequences should it arise..... God speaks to us in soo many ways and not just thru prophecies so my advise is if u get a prophecy abt ur relationship take it if u think it will help u and ignore it if u think think it won't.

It's good n bad... good if you meet a true prophet n bad if you meet a fake one

For me I could careless if the prophecy is real or not, I just go with my heart and be happy as long as it gives me rest of mind. When the going gets bad, I get to carry my cross and bear the consequences alone.

I understand we have fake prophets, in fact the bible warned us. But certain issues are not meant to be neglected especially when it comes from two or more witnesses.

You find yourself in the dream asking for help!, help!! help!!! and suddenly your boyfriend whom you love so much, walked and ignored you while screaming for HELP!

The following day, a similar dream appeared!

No amount of prayer will make him help in times of trouble. God has only shown you the kind of person you want to live with.

Prophets all the way. This world is a mystery and if you want to say 'follow your heart', when things go south you will cry gallons and your song will be 'had I known'.

My close friend, a girl was supposed to marry one naval guy like that. He was so loving and caring, but when she went out, to quote the prophets, they said 'he will beat bastard shege out of you'.

She obeyed and when they broke up, he revealed a side to him that he had been hiding all along.

My own aunt was warned about marrying the man she married. She was warned the marriage would not last and she would lose her child.

Aunty followed her heart, married the nigga, and 32 years down the line, one of her kids died 11 years ago, and she split from the man around 1998.

So what are we saying? Prophets all the way
Re: Prophecy And Relationships by Onegai(f): 7:50am On Oct 23, 2015
Cause and Effect. If someone warns me that something will happen in the future and it does, I will assume they were right and knowing. If someone warns me and nothing happens, I will assume they knew nothing and are charlatans.

Dreams are a manifestation of your subconscious. If you dwell on something, you'll dream about it.

When God speaks, you will be equipped to hear His voice well. Not hear what you want to hear at that point in time.

Observe that in the New Testament, God spoke and used people directly. God spent the entire Old Testament sending prophets whom people did not listen to, then sent His Only Begotten Son, to be the Lamb Who Washes Away Our Sins and be the direct bridge for us all to Him (hence the curtain was torn in the Inner Sanctum when our Lord Jesus died, to show that we now had direct access to God, unlike when we had to go through his priests and prophets. To show that salvation was now attenable to all.

And you think we still need prophets?

If your University continually sends semi-qualified Bachelors' degree lecturers to teach you and you learn but don't quite understand, then the university sends a Ph. D holder who's the best in the field to take over (since you're not understanding) for a while and leaves you his notes. When you still don't understand, you end up back with the B. Sc and B. Arts lecturers, trying to understand the Ph.D lectures. Instead of being able to see (perhaps not as clearly but at least in the same direction as those junior lecturers, since your experience isn't as vast as theirs).

That says more about your level of understanding. Perhaps that's why you still need prophets.

Do you remember how Pentecost happened? The anointing fell upon more than the 12 disciples. And they spread it to others and shared the anointing. And humanity corrupted the Word, which is why it decided that the anointing will be held in the hands of a few, since we could not be trusted, even though Christ had come to give it to us all.

After our Lord's sacrifice, we ended up worse than where the people of the Old Testament were. Deliberately blind.

And that is Man's greatest sorrow and the reason we shall all be judged in the final days.

You're feeling sad about the fact that some listen to prophets?
Re: Prophecy And Relationships by Antiparticle(m): 8:56am On Oct 28, 2015
The idea of going to prophets to predict the future is an anachronism that mirrors our ancient traditions of going to the babalawo or soothsayer to tell the future.

In Naija, we have made our version of Christianity one in which we see prophets and pastors as demi-gods and closer to God than we are. This is why we swallow hook, line, and sinker some of their exploitative and manipulative extortionist tactics. Statistically, prophecies about spouses and marriage success are specious because marriage and relationships are fundamentally about day to day choices and luck, both of which end up determining the future. Naija people we too like short cut sha.

No wonder most of us don't even read our Bibles enough to know what's in there.

For me, reading too much of the Bible and asking too many questions, and subsequently reading a lot of world history of the past 2500 years caused me to shockingly realize that Yahweh is an invention of the human mind. This is why I am saddened at the idea that some of us choose spouses based on the whimsical opinion of so-called prophets.

In spite of this, there are many Christian concepts that are absolutely helpful to living my life. But, unfortunately, Yahweh is not real and Jesus did not resurrect. I wish it were all true, but no it isn't. I feel gypped.

Sorry for diverting your thread.

Exactly.
I remember when I was ready to settle down. I had 2 guys who really like me and I went into praying and fasting all by myself. On the last day of the fast, I was shown the one in my dream. That same day he proposed to me just like I saw in my dream and it's been 3 n half years of bliss. The other guy is very rich and some friends wanted me to settle 4him but I thank God I sought God's face cos He has really, really blessed Hubby n I.
