Rooney is a liability...How on earth can a player earning £300k be so bad?

I said it. Valencia.

If only he had someone good playing in front of him. It was the decision to be defence conscious that kept Mata out of action today. Herrera on the right and Mata in the middle would have done us so much good. Or Martial and Memphis in the wings. Lingaard weakened us.

Rooney weakened us ...he was a cold shiit today...Lingard played better than uncle Rooney... PS ; Louis Ban-Ga na salty soup.

Man utd have the players to compete, all we have to do is to sack LVG and appoint someone who knows the meaning of "attack and intensity". LVG have simply lost touch with the game, the team plays rubbish and he just relaxs looking unconcerned. He even looks like a psycho this days. What annoys me most is when i see him with his papers, pen and notepad, i feel like grabbing him from the TV. He is the reason imbeciles like kolade354 come here to talk nonsense.

Our game was too slow in the first half. We needed 20 passes and 5 minutes to get to the final third. By the time we got there, the opposition had regrouped. We also never really attacked through the middle. We lacked forward passing and that was the reason Blind was introduced.
Only Herrera was capable of sporting penetrating passes today. Even Martial could not spot the movements of Fellaini and Rooney around the box. This is why SAF always said players like Giggs and Scholes don't fall from the trees.

Bringing on Fellaini was the first mistake. Because at that time we needed somebody to either dictate the play from midfied or force things to happen upfront in the one two players that could av done dis were carrick and Mata. Fellaini's touches are too heavy, he is too slow and he doesn't pass forward. Bringing on blinds was another mistake. Why the hell should you replace a defender with a defender when you are a goal down and the opponent are not threatening? LVG is not a coach but a confused gambler. All this happened while a lost soul in person of wayne rooney was still on the pitch. Rooney is so dumb and lacks movement that he makes martial work his socks off. Martial along with Valencia were the only players looking to beat their man and make things happen up front, we were under no form of pressure and a goal down, yet he kept on making defensive changes.

That was where contrary to your first post, Lingaard's inclussion was positive in the first place(as he was the only one finding little pockets of space in between the CSKA midfield and defence). However, because of our usually slow build-up play, most of his (lingaard) drifting-in went unnoticed because CSKA were quickly closing up the spaces, and Valencia kept passing it back when we tried to use him as our outlet down the right.

Compare that with Martial being double-teamed on the left and Rojo doing feck'all to support him and you'd realise why we never threatened in the first half.

You are not being objective.

Rooney was a striker and he was starved badly by those in the build up play. Lingard was the principal culprit why we couldn't get into the final third. By time the ball got to where Rooney was he got crowded out. Where I got angry with him is his lackadaisical approach when he didn't have the ball.

If we had Mata or Valencia in the number 7, Rooney could have scored with more direct play from the build up. Rojo did not support Martial. So Rooney was isolated in the middle and the ball never arrived.

No.

Lingaard stood on Valencia's way and even Herrera's way. He just didn't know what to do. When Valencia gives him the ball expecting a forward movement, Lingaard would reverse the play thereby calling Valencia and Herrera back. The result, back pass from whoever had the ball because Lingard had slowed the attack.

Are you blind, how can you possibly think Lingaard was worse than Rooney? Must you form all your opinions off Whoscored statistics?

We had a striker who wasnt making himself available for the pass, wasnt bringing others into play, wasnt trying to get in behind the defence in the hope of getting a lobbed ball in, he offerred nothing.

I know there has been alot of Rooney bashing allover the internet recently, but the opposing CB doesnt even have to try anymore before they completely neutralize any threat he poses.

You should be ashamed of yourself for saying this. Fatso was worse of than an eight month pregnant woman on the pitch. He did virtually nothing. He wasn't moving, he wasn't standing, he wasnt asking for the ball, he wasnt giving it to his team mate each time he got it, he wasnt shooting and he was even afraid to touch the ball. Lingard was miles better than Rooney. If Rooney must play, LVG should start using him as a defender, 'maybe'ñ just maybe his power will be useful at the back.

Oga stop wacthng football!

He didnt slow down any attack, Valencia kept doing that, CSKA basically left Valencia alone while their lb constantly tracked Lingaard as he drifted infield, with Musa further up hoping for a break.

Your Brother Valencia had several chances to actually put decent balls into the box but when he wasnt passing back to Herrera, he was constantly hitting the defenders shin.

You watched football upside down. Valencia was the only player with forward play. Lingard was an obstacle to Valencia. Lingard was not matured.

Does it occur to you that Valencia was the man of the match? Valencia from defence outpaced his markers to deliver decent crosses, from one of them we scored. Lingard reversed the ball backward from similar situations.

It really is beyond questioning now, either you are blind or Valencia financed your education.

How many of his crosses actually found their targets? Aside the goal and the hit-and-hope that fellainin managed to head tamely towards goal, what other contributions did he make?

Because a player gets the MOTM means he was universally the best player on the pitch? I'm fighting a battle within myself not to call you stoopid.

We had a plan which was obviously for Lingaard to drift in, while freeing up Valencia for the crosses, your financier decided otherwise to pass it back and wait for others to take the initiative (as usual). The only time when he did actually cross it with purpose, we scored..and Lingaard did just wat he was told to do, come infield, find Herrera who in turn found Your benefactor.

Oh, i forgot i was trying to hold a rational discussion with Elampiro here, the same one who lives on statistics and whose entire opinion of football are those fed to him by Whoscored.

Elampiro said Rooney would have scored if Mata was in the number 7 tonight. My question is, all this while that Mata has been playing 7, why haven't Rooney been scoring?

Look at who is taking about accurate crosses.

Valencia had the highest accurate crosses in the entire match.

Accurate crosses
Valencia 4
Dzaguev 2
Martial 1
Depay 1
Lingaard 0 (0/2)

Lingaard did not drift in anything. He was a clog to our swift attack. Is that how Mata used to drift in?

Today's game was easy. We only needed someone who could spot passes. Lingard was a kid in the game and got Herrera and Valencia out of proper attacking rhythm. But Valencia was still cool with good forward play and outpacing his markers. He also did not put a foot wrong in our defence.

Wait, what is the yardstick for determining whether or not a cross is accurate? Because there is no way Valencia found his "man" 4 times in that game.

Hope you didnt include those hopeful punts that Martial had to rescue from going into touch?

If Valencia was half as productive as he should be in that game, we'd have won comfortably - thats ignoring the Rooney conundrum of course.

The niccur didnt even include Herreras cross to Rooney which was headed straight at Akinfeev.

Which markers? The left back tracking Lingaard's infield runs or Musa who was stationed on the center circle hoping for the break?

I've avoided this thread for quite a while because of stats-driven average joes like yourself who think because they can lay their hands on flimsy statistics littered allover the internet they automatically have knowledge of the game.

You have insulted me twice now. If I insult you back you will be the first to all murkina2. You won't even cope with my insults. You will commit suicide.

You also forget Valencia was a defender who had to overlap to help do the work Lingard was supposed to do. Rojo couldn't cross the half line. Valencia was also up against Musa. All the threats came from Rojo's wing and he offered no help to Martial.
.....

Antonio Valencia:Solid at the back for the most part and, when he did eventually startto get forward, made a difference at the other end of the field too. United's best moments came down the right, including the goal for which Valencia claimed the assist.(7/10)
.....

Jesse Lingard:A surprise selection from Van Gaal, but he did not disgrace himself on his Champions League debut. Showed aglimpse here and there of what he can do without coming up with anything of real substance.(6/10)
