Boyega is set to be propelled to stardom after being hand-picked to play the role of hero Finn in the film, which is already being seen as a contender to become the highest grossing of all time. But the 23-year-old's path to Hollywood started on a tough North Peckham estate where his own life was touched by one of the capital's most notorious murders.

His sister Grace was the last friend to see 10-year-old Damilola Taylor alive before he was stabbed to death on a stairwell close to Boyega's family home. The Boyega family were close to Damilola and his parents Richard and Gloria, and classmate Grace had cared for him after he arrived in Britain from Nigeria in 1999.




Until recently, Boyega has remained virtually unknown, only appearing in a handful of British films and TV shows before his big break in the sci-fi blockbuster. Before the Star Wars hype, he was best known for his film debut in 2011’s sci-fi horror-comedy Attack of the Block, where he played Moses, the leader of a teen gang terrorising the residents of a South London council estate. But he has previously said his biggest challenge is not to do ‘urban movies’ for the rest of his life and that he lamented playing the role of ‘alpha hoodies.’ His acting career began with a Performing Arts course at South Thames College in south London, where he starred as Othello and went on to appear in various small plays.

Before he made the jump to films he had a few television roles on shows such as Law & Order: UK and BBC’s Becoming Human, a web spinoff of Being Human.

Boyega's sister Grace was the last friend to see 10-year-old Damilola Taylor alive before he was stabbed to death on a stairwell close to Boyega's family home.
The Boyega family were close to Damilola and his parents Richard and Gloria, and classmate Grace had cared for him after arrived in Britain from Nigeria in 1999.
They all lived on the tough North Peckham Estate and attended the Oliver Goldsmith Primary School.
Damilola bled to death on a stairwell on a Peckham estate in South London in November 2000 after being stabbed in the leg with a broken beer bottle on his way home from the library.
Ricky Preddie and his brother Danny, who were 13 and 12 at the time, were convicted of manslaughter in 2006 and jailed for eight years.
He later appeared opposite Chiwetel Ejiofor, the star of 12 Years A Slave, and Thandie Newton (The Pursuit of Happyness and Mission Impossible 2) in period romantic drama Half Of A Yellow Sun set during the Nigerian Civil War.
Star Wars will be his big break but not all reacted well to the casting of a black actor in the film. Some even called for a boycott, calling the movie ‘anti-white propaganda’.
The hashtag #BoycottStarWarsVII was started on Twitter after internet trolls expressed anger over the casting of Boyega, claiming the film was promoting ‘white genocide’. The same user also referred to director JJ Abrams as a ‘Jewish activist’.
The hashtag started trending but the handful of people calling for a boycott were drowned out by thousands condemning the posts.
Showing his excitement at the release of the trailer yesterday, Boyega posted a video of himself diving over the back of his sofa.
He wrote: ‘THE TRAILER IS JUST EEEEPPPPPPPIIIIICCCCCCC! Star Wars is back!’
The Force Awakens, which opens on December 17, is set 30 years after Return of the Jedi – the third film in the original trilogy.


Fans pointed out that one major absence from the two-minute trailer was Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker who, although credited to appear in the new film, has not been seen in any of the promotional material.
On Monday the Vue chain alone sold 10,000 tickets in the first 90 minutes of business. Odeon took ‘tens of thousands’ of bookings before lunchtime and ‘thousands’ each hour throughout the afternoon.
Both said the film was already the most pre-booked since their records began. So many tickets have been sold that extra showings have been added into cinema schedules, with some planning to screen the film 24 hours a day during its opening week.

From Nigeria to Indiana and Los Angeles, 27-year-old Okeniyi always knew he wanted to be an actor. Okeniyi always participated in theater and films and within a year of living in LA he landed his first major movie, playing the role of Thresh in “Hunger Games.”
If that’s not impressive enough, the young actor only did one read for the audition, which was taped. The tape was passed around to different producers on the movie before landing in the hands of “Hunger Games” director, Gary Ross.

Creating a cultural and tourism destination in Miami-Dade County, Representative Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall's (D-Miami) legislation Thursday passed the Florida House unanimously. Osun's Village, which will run from NW 54th Street to NW 60th Street, and the African and Caribbean Cultural Arts Corridor, which will run from NW 36th Street to NW 79th Street, in Liberty City, will provide a much needed boost to revitalizing the economy of our communities.

"I'm delighted to have bipartisan support for this monumental bill," said Rep. Bendross-Mindingall. "This legislation will positively impact our communities, and will educate future generations about the rich heritage of African and Caribbean cultures."

Osun's (pronounced Oh-shoonz) Village is an urban redevelopment project developed by Chief Nathaniel Styles and Harlan Woodard of KDI/Architecture and Community Builders Holistic Development Corporation. The Operation of the Osun Village will be a celebration of the art, culture, and heritage of people of African descent throughout the Diaspora. The project will also establish international trade and cultural exchange linkages with Osun State in Nigeria, ultimately establishing a Sister City Relationship.

The Osun's Village and African Caribbean Cultural Arts Corridor will be the first of many initiatives which will promote: workforce development in the cultural industry; social change by creating access through transportation; cross-cultural awareness which will stimulate economic growth throughout our urban communities; and international trade and commerce.

HB 121 also designates other roads and facilities throughout the State of Florida; including Reverend Samuel Atchison Boulevard, Reverend Gerard Jean-Juste Boulevard, and the Adam Leigh Cann building in Miami. HB 121 will now proceed to the Senate. The Senate sponsors of the companion bill (SB 308) are Senator Larcenia Bullard (D-Miami) and Senator Frederika Wilson (D-Miami).

She should not be confused, however, with a different Orisha of a similar name spelled “Osun,” who is the protector of the Ori, or our heads and inner souls. ochun relates mostly to woman but also man.

It is the month of celebration, traditional cleansing of the city and cultural reunion of the people with their ancestors and founders of the Osogbo Kingdom. The celebration of Osun Osogbo Festival is a period of stocktaking and assemblage of all sons and daughters of Osogboland and most especially Yoruba speaking people both in Nigeria and Diaspora.

The origin of the Festival according to historical records can be described as an account of the legendary encounter between the early settlers / founders of Osogbo with the Osun Osogbo deity. In about 1370AD the founder of Osogbo, Oba Gbadewolu Larooye and the great hunter Olutimehin settled in the sacred Osun forest to establish the kingdom and actualized a pact of association and togetherness with the River Osun deity. Since then Osogbo has remained peaceful, progressive and benevolent city without any ravage of war or pestilence. This pact of association, which is rekindled every year in the month of august, is the foundation of a cultural fiesta that has catapulted itself into world recognition as one of the largest tourist attraction in Nigeria.

The cultural celebration tagged Osun Osogbo Festival has a two-week programmed of events starting with the spiritual cleansing of the town. This is generally known as Ìwòpòpò, followed by Olójúmérìndínlógún which is the lightening of the centuries old 16-points lamp three days later. Ìboríadé – the assemblage of all the crowns of past rulers (Ataojas) for blessings follows some four days later. The Festival’s Grand Finale showcases the cultural procession of the people to the Osun Grove.

The greenery of this place is superb

I went to Ado sometimes in September and I saw many great buildings. My phones battery was dead. If not, I would have taken innumerable pictures of nice looking architectural edifices. There is more to ado than those pictures. Do you reside in ado? Pls post more pictures here.

Unemployment is also a factor,but i dont think poverty is a major cause.I know of big men,who ride jeeps and own big homes yet have illiterate kids,besides majority of the yorubas are not poor.

A late starter in the sport, Joshua only began boxing in 2007, aged 18, when his cousin suggested he take it up. On 24 July 2013 it was confirmed that Joshua had turned professional under the Matchroom Sport promotional banner. Joshua made his professional debut on 5 October 2013 at the O2 Arena in London in the Main-Event of a card featuring Scott Quigg's successful WBA super-bantamweight title defence against Yoandris Salinas, beating Italian Emanuelue Leo by a TKO in the first round.

Joshua's second professional fight was against English Heavyweight Paul Butlin at the Motorpoint Arena Sheffield on 26 October 2013. The bout was stopped in the 2nd round when the referee decided Butlin was taking too much punishment and declared Joshua the winner by TKO.

Joshua's third professional fight was on the Prizefighter Series card against Croatian, Hrvoje Kisciek, on 14 November 2013. Joshua got a TKO victory in the second round, achieving his third knockout victory in a row.

On 1 February 2014 on the undercard of Lee Selby against Rendall Munroe, Joshua scored a 2nd round TKO victory over Dorian Darch to take his record to 4-0.

On 1 March 2014 on the undercard of Ricky Burns against Terence Crawford, Joshua defeated Hector Alfredo Avila with a 1st round KO, in Glasgow, Scotland.

On 31 May 2014, Joshua knocked out Matt Legg in one round on the undercard of Carl Froch against George Groves in Wembley Stadium.

In Joshua's seventh professional fight, on 12 July 2014, in the Echo Arena, Liverpool, he defeated Englishman Matt Skelton via 2nd round stoppage.

In Anthony Joshua's eight professional fight, on 13 September 2014, against German Heavyweight Konstantin Airich, Joshua took his undefeated record to 8-0 with a 3rd round stoppage victory, in the Manchester Arena.

Joshua was in the Main-Event of a Matchroom Sport card for the second time in his career, in his 9th professional appearance against Denis Bakhtov on 11 October 2014 at The O2 Arena in London, for the WBC International Heavyweight Title. Joshua won the fight by knockout in the second round taking his record to 9-0.

In his 10th professional bout, Joshua defeated Michael Sprott within the 1st round to extend his record to 10 wins all by stoppage. He was supposed to face American boxer Kevin Johnson on 31 January 2015 at The O2 Arena in London, but the bout was cancelled after Joshua sustained a back injury. On 4 April 2015, Joshua beat Jason Gavern as he collected a third-round knockout in his return to the ring in Newcastle. On 9 May 2015, in his 12th professional bout, Joshua defeated Raphael Zumbano Love in a second round knockout in Birmingham.

On 30 May 2015, Joshua defeated Kevin Johnson inflicting the first stoppage in Johnson's career. After Johnson was saved by the bell in the first round the fight was stopped by the referee shortly after the beginning of the second round.

On 12 September 2015, Joshua won the vacant Commonwealth Heavyweight title by stopping Gary Cornish in the first round at the O2 Arena. Cornish had been unbeaten in his previous 21 fights.

Joshua is scheduled to fight Dillian Whyte for the vacant British Heavyweight title on 12 December 2015, whilst also defending his Commonwealth Heavyweight title for the first time. The two have previously fought within the amateur rankings in 2009.
