Benin — An imminent inter-tribal clash involving Binis, Ijaws, Itsekiris and Urhobos is looming in Edo State. The grouse of the Binis is that other tribes have encroached on their territory and instead of accepting their status as tenants or guests, they are overstepping their bonds. P.M. News learnt that in order to put the non-Bini tribes where they really belong, a bill to rename some of their communities is now on the floor of the Edo State House of Assembly. |

Those ijaws have really taken over some riverine communities in oredo, ovia SW ans ikpoba-okha. but it won't amount to tribal warfare as long as they are not laying claim to the lands and communities. 2 Likes |

I'm aware that powers at Benin notoriously rename non-bini communities with bini names in the politically carved out edo state. Opressing others even when they are not that powerful. Urhobos, Itsekiris and co should ignore all those 'out of bini' origin folklore. Binis call God Osanobuwa, you call Him Oghene and Oritse. So much difference! |

fr3do:come o must you be on every edo thread? Abi edo goat chop your yam? Edos are not land grabbers like your people. Some people are trying to insult our hospitality by trying to claim our lands and we setting a limit and boundary makes us bad? You no get sense? Have you seen Edo claiming any tribe but rather they want to identify with us. |

fr3do: God has many names in Bini. Oghene is one of them OGHENEOSA is the Bini way. Even, Etsako for God is OGHENA. Oritse is pronounced by Binis as OISE. Another way of calling God. DO NOT comment on what you know nothing about . 2 Likes 2 Shares |

martha89: Who tell u? See long ago the ijaws wanted to install a king in the gelegele part of bini kingdom. You know gelegele is a port village and the ijaws being traditional fishermen have come to do business and lived in the of Edo for decades. The Oba of Benin kicked against this as they are tenants in his kingdom. The Oba went further to proffer a solution being that the people should elect somebody as their head and he will make him a Palace Chief in his kingdom. But the ijaws won't have any of it. Claiming that their king can not be subject to another king. Na there the wahala dey. |
Re: Nigeria: Tribal War Looms In Edo State by HugoChavezJr(m): 7:27pm On Oct 29, 2015 |
The Ijaws in Gelegele have been making noise over this issue for years and nothing drastic has come out of it. So, I highly doubt full out war will break out between the Benins and Ijaws. |
