[s] cool Ultimately, we have to approach this on TWO different fronts.

1) Short-term/immediate goals: design and implement models that would enhance our (Yorubas) development in the current Nigerian structure. The good news is that we don't have to (for the most part, I believe) reinvent the wheel in advancing (as best as its possible within today's Nigeria) our region. How can things be better than what they are now for us? Politically? Economically? In education? Infrastructure etc. I believe there are models around the world that we can borrow from to make this possible.

2)Long-term goal: Here an independent Oduduwa Nation is the goal or at the very least a very independent South-West in a regional Nigeria. No matter how successful we become under the present Nigerian structure, we will always fall victim to mass migration of our region from the our less fortunate Nigerian neighbors. The Igbos have been doing this for decades, and now we see how even the Fulani-herdsmen are increasingly finding their way into the center of our abode. Until we are able to control migration from non-Yoruba enclaves, we will always be limited in our ability to stand out. As more and more non-Yorubas flood daily into the SW our culture (especially Ede Yooba) will continue to suffer the consequence[/s].

So you can not discuss your generational curse and problem without dragging others into it. You are complaining of people migrating to your land yet your parents in osun can't feed without the resources from the land of those you hate. They have told you they don't like you and have opted restore their own country so that you can live without them 'migrating' to your land but basteerds like you are on every biafran thread cursing and threatening them. Thunder fire your long conehead there!

You want to control your land still control another man's (migrants) resources. Are you not a thief? Thunder fire your long conehead there if you can't keep them out of your discussion.

cool Am off for a break but before I leave I will like to make (what I believe to be) a crucial suggestion.

On how to TRANSFER our ONLINE(FORUM) solutions/presence into PRACTICAL solutions on the GROUND in the SW.

I have a few ideas that I will be discussing as soon as I am able. Anyone with other solutions should also chime in.

I am not Yoruba but I think y'all should try linking up with DAWN. Dipo and the organisation is really trying and they always emphasize the need for all Yorubas to be on board to uplift the region.DAWN deals heavily with SW policies and the government but private citizens also need to work with them to manifest their blueprint into reality. The good thing is the organization is not partisan.

In attendance were : Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Dipo Famakinwa( DAWN Commission), Prof Pius Adesanmi, Ayo Turton, Omoyele Sowere( Sahara Reporters), Bamidele-Ademola Olateju etc. Once i get the link to the youtube video of the event, i'll post it here.

I do not trust AFENIFERE to stand behind Yoruba interest. They're too involved with political and self interest.

Its Afenifere Renewal Group...dts another faction and I think they are the ones responsible for piloting the DAWN Commission. One of the presenters at the conference,Bamidele wrote an article called " Ìpónjú Makes Me Yorùbá: What Else?". I think it is a message that should be shared with all yorubas to really ponder on.

Of course it won't, it never does but Igbo is a no go area and these Northerners have no problem working with the Igbo if they can find a common ground. The Northerners' relationship with other groups is like that of a man with two wives, he switches when his purpose can be served with any willing partner.

Of course, Nigeria can never develop beyond what it is.
Too many factors pointing to this obvious situation. The country itself is on auto-pilot as well as its many institutions who just run - employ/occupy then retire/vacate with nothing different happening and when something arises, they quickly patch it as usual. Nigeria was not designed to satisfy every party, it has been a country running with hopes to fix every error along the way.

You killed me with the emboldened but it is the truth.

Lmaooo!!

Ha! - are you saying every group in that contraption is the Northerners' biitch? - holy shiit, I see why these folks love polygyny and they love the chics young, fresh, and brand new. So, they're basically practicalising that on my Yoruba folks, no? Ain't that a biitch? - and these folks are supremely proud of being perpetual biitches and they'll defend one-Nigeria so bad that their quest for being a good wife would make them go out of their way to attack other folks who're against the quagmire, so as to keep the husband happy and fat. SMFDH. Yorubas are the type of wife every guy dreams of - the one wife that will ride or die and fight ya battles for you regardless of how you maltreat her. grin

Trust me, I don't understand Yoruba folks in Nigeria and their passion for that shytehole of a country. It's sad, really. The Igbo question is just a no-go area...those folks are the type of folks you keep arm's length if you're not the type that's confrontational and won't hesitate to tell someone to fvck off for being unruly. Only Northerners and Igbos can get along. And Yorubas aren't generally like that - so forming an alliance with Igbos would be problematic. Evidently, if the whole South can't unite - the only folks that would always be in an advantageous position would be the Northerners, coupled with the fact that the country is lopsided in their favour. That means they'll always call the shots on how the country is run and these folks are the most backward people ever - there's absolutely nothing progressive about them.

Then maybe all the blacks in the white man's land shouldn't strive to achieve success because they're not in a black environment. The same people like you who say this will in turn rejoice over the fact that whiteys adore your culture. We all can't be in Africa for heaven's sake. Yeah their successes might not be a direct contribution to Yorubaland but its indirectly positive and we're not celebrating them because they send money to yorubaland, we're celebrating them because they're Yorubas. abi na crime to celebrate my brother?

Egbon mi Mayor.

I do not think the live and let live attitude is even the problem.

I think the leaders, even if they recoginze the need for the importance of Yoruba cohesion and interest, are much more concerned in what poilitical bridges they can build and what wealth it can generate - this is the major reason why they strongly root for Nigeria and endorse it as an entity. Most of these politicians do not have other jobs, it is in Nigeria that I'd see people fill in politics as an occupation. Those who have other means of survival base its existence on politics. As a result, party interest often comes first even if the region gets nothing.

This style of leadership is what the youths have chosen to follow, party interest first.

Why can we not have a Yoruba agenda but take them into different political parties so that in the end, whichever pary wins, the agenda remains and it is pursued with everyone, no matter the party brought on board.

Everyone shouts how Afenifere every Afenifere's press statement is for money or political appointments yet disregarding the content of the message. If the crop of Afenifere leadership is corrupt, can't we the present generation who are even more 'enlightened' pick things up from where these elders have gotten things to? I do not even know if Afenifere has a website, membership procedures and what have you.

We need cohesion, badly.

You are correct.

Im going to be very blunt with this comment.

In order to progress forward we need first to establish a platform from which to nurture the progress we yearn. From our numerous time markers - Kiriji, 1906 amalgamation, 1914 amalgamation, 1957 regional autonomy, 1960 independence, 1963 republic, 1966 coup, 1967 war,1970 reunion, 1979 republic, 1983 coup, 1992 annulment, 1999 republic, 2015 change - at which point did we achieve our optimum best as a Yoruba Commonwealth? The answer is 1957. The progress was killed by Ibos, starting in 1963 and ending in 1967.

When we ruled ourselves in an independent Western Regional Government spanning from 1957 to 63 our people recorded monumental progress. In 1963, Ibos attacked our progress in attempt to truncate it. Unsuccessful the first time, they attempted again in 1966 and ended ruining the entire country in the process.

We fared well after the war and untill the 1992 annulment, again Ibos were instrumental in the political confrontation.

From 1999 we again recovered and were recovering losses but in the GEJ government filled from top to bottom with Ibos we were marginalized from the center....but the damage was eben deeper because they flooded our land with Ibo migrants and using policies from the central.authorities, activated trade monopolies that put Yorubas at economic and political disadvantage on our own soil.

At every turn in our existence in Nigeria, Ibo has been an underlying problem. We cannot sustain our progress too long without first finding a solution to them. Fortunately, one after the other our traditional rulers are discovering too that their domain is at risk if the excesses of Ibo in Yorubaland is left to continue without immediate check.

We must by all means distance our relationship and alliance with Igbos in other to even find a footing ....a solid one....from which to launch a renaissance in our commonwealth.

Afenifere has a website. Afenifere Renewal Group has a website also. If you cant find it let me know.

Some countries are known to have put embargo on certain political class and use political controls to minimize their adverse effect on the mainstream of their society. Whites do this to blacks in US. I see no reason we cannot put embargo on Ibos free movement and excesses in Yorubaland....and do it in tune with the Constitution.

Like Fashola said in his Ministerial vetting appearance at the Senate. Freedom of speech or movement is not absolute! There is a boundary....has Ibo crossed that boundary? Yes and many times over. It is time to begin to relate with them at a distance and under surveillance.
