I also agree that the home videos and unfettered access to the internet has had an impact on the lives of the youth. The problem is there's little that can be done in that regard now. The boarding house system would have been able to reduce the exposure and effect but now most schools are day schools with large virtually uncontrollable population.

When I visited my Alma mater with a view towards deciding on a befitting project by my set, I couldn't help crying. cry I still feel sad cos a school that has produced many great silent achievers is now of a low standard. Even scholarship exam organised for them resulted in a disappointing result. I tire! At least I credit Tinubu for returning some schools back to the original owners. It has brought back the competitive sprit back to Lagos schools in a way. Of course the public schools are still a long way off but they're still better than other Odua states. Let's hope there's a comprehensive plan to reorientate our people and pay serious attention to education. Sudden wealth syndrome is not our style. Baba Ijebu gambling mentality isn't good for us.

Oun to a ko ba fara sise fun ki tojo...

I wonder if they still read those motivating Yoruba poems.

Kwara isn't tricky at all.

Settlement pattern already makes it easier, Yoruba occupy Ilorin south down to Ganmo, Ajase Ipo to Offa's border with Erin Osun. So, the border can be redrawn from Yoruba's portion of Ilorin.

The Kogi's situation is what I do not understand, are Yoruba settled in a particular section directly bordering other Yoruba states or they are scattered across the state or even have non-yoruba towns spread in between them and the SWest?

CabbieAC:

I'm really concerned about this as well. The problem with Kogi is that its multi-ethnic while kwara seems very tricky and confusing.

let them be.

I just dont know why some of you folks always type with various agendas as if nobody can see what you're doing.

You do have a sense of humour egbon shymex. LOL

Despite the humour in your post, it captures the Nigerian situation vividly.

The North in the Nigerian Map isn't just sitting on the South, it is indeed sitting on the South in real life.

The Northerners are sitting on everyone's destiny. Just basically like putting excessive load on a canoe - it's only a matter of time before the whole thing sinks.

Then you've got all those smaller "ethnic groups" that keep trying to claime new opportunistic identities, rather than align with the bigger groups they share a lot of similarities with. Those groups are also holding everyone down, and they're also part of the reason why it'll be difficult to restructure the country. You would also see that they're loudest proponents of the one-Nigeria quagmire cos they'd rather be messed up within Nigeria, so they can protect their new found fame - than get a better deal elsewhere. The whole madness is just nauseating, really.

Yorubas just need to go after Yoruba interests and leave the rest to stay perambulating in circles like the London Eye. We don't owe none of these folks anything - and our destinies aren't aligned.

I've really enjoyed reading through this thread. God bless you Aare or CabbieAC, IlekeHD and others.

. I'm deeply concerned about the serious deterioration of public schools. This generation of youths are not ready to learn and some parents are more focused on how soon and how much money they can make to uplift the family. That is why we have a lot of students who are part time agbero, okada and Marwa riders. They're more interested in what they make on a daily basis most of which is spent frivolously. As rightly stated before, their role models are motor Park chairmen, 'big girls' with questionable means of livelihood and their ilk. I remember a teacher who told me that her students said she should stop stressing them cos they dont need school cert to be successful. Their example - the deputy governor appointed by Adedibu! God help us.!!

Many of the parents are also not as sacrificial as the old generation. The free education program seems to have brought about an entitlement/non-commitment mentality to our people. They prefer to fight the teacher who tells them to buy books- government should supply! I believe parents must be committed in some way towards the development of their children. It's a major driving force in the life of a child. It doesn't have to be expensive. 1000 per term per child in Oyo state was introduced for that reason. The parents need to be positively involved. Somehow, there must be total reorientation programme for our people. We also need the old technical colleges which was the alternative route for those not so keen on pure academics.

However, the reality now is that those who really want sound education arrange for lessons or go to private schools.

You're welcome.

Of all the worries Yorubas have about Yorubaland on this thread, public education is a common mention.

This problem you mentioned is common all over Nigeria. We know a problem exists, we know the solutions, what next?
