@Justwise. I have been following this thread for more than two years which is the most successful I have ever come across on Nairaland. With the recent imbroglio; public opinion has shown that majority of its members support for Costs, Doctors and Hospitals to be posted freely which doesn’t necessarily mean they are here to indirectly advertise for hospitals. This support has remained above 97% consistently in opinion polls since this outcry. Conflict isn't necessarily a bad thing. If it's open and direct, it helps in dealing with issues and building consensus. As a leader, you should be able to mediate conflict and reach consensus among members of this forum. Justwise, please focus on the real issues of this thread which is cost and procedures which falls under, Doctors, Hospitals and Costs. When the Mods and Admins disagree with members of this forum and the purpose of this thread is defeated, they burn bridges they may never be able to repair. Do not let other bloggers take advantage of this decision which could drastically reduce your members. Conflict is a normal part of any healthy organization. After all, we all can’t be expected to agree on everything all the time. Learning how to deal with conflict rather than avoiding it is very crucial in leadership and management. I'll suggest for the Admins to restrategize because we all understand that the purpose of this outcry is to protect the interest of your clients without breaching contracts and Nairaland's interest is also to maximize profit regardless of members opinion. It is a very complicated situation which should be intelligently managed. But remember without Nairalanders, Nairaland will go into extinction and out of business while those Hospitals which interest you are protecting will remain in business. 19 Likes |

Hi Justwise, is it possible to distinguish reviews from advertising? For example, if a mum (or expecting mum) is using or has recently used a Doctor and Hospital, o think it's fair to give the reviews openly with costs too. On the other hand, if anyone finds a good deal but hasn't used them, it may be seen as advertisement. I understand it will be difficult to distinguish them but we've got to try. I have been scrolling for some pages back and we're still on this issue. It's distracting from the purpose of this thread really. Kudos to all those who have shared their visa interview and entry stories in the midst of it all. Kindly consider this. I used Doctor esparati on my first delivery and it was a fabulous experience. But not everyone can/wants to go to El Paso. The freedom of choice matters especially as I don't see any other hospital or agent advertising at rhe moment. I'm also not sure how it will sit with the Admin if a duplicate thread is opened and then everyone here migrates there. Although we have a right to freedom of information and expression, I forsee a situation where that thread will be "suppressed" I understand the point to ure making o. Business is Business but at same time. Looking forward to coming back here sometime later and seeing that we've all moved on from the arguments and counter arguments on a positive note. Wishing all the October/November mamas a safe delivery ahead. On another note, it's actually true that this thread shows as the first two results when you Google "giving birth in USA", before rhe wiki page. Lol. I experimented with a number of public PCs and friends phones, it was the same. I'm not in Nigeria at the moment. I think it's a good thing for Nairaland though. 2 Likes |

Modath; i was done talking about this issue, but you called me out, so let's get the ball rolling. . . First of all, let me understand your stance. That hospital/doctor and accommodation info shouldn't be posted on this thread? Everyone should do their research and keep their info to themselves? So, exactly what are we doing on this thread? Visa and POE stories? You do know there is already a thread for USA visa and even POE right? Tell me, what purpose does this thread serve? 19 Likes |

Phema: You got me wrong... I DIDN'T CALL YOU OUT THE WAY YOU THINK, IT'S TO DRAW REFERENCE.. You are talking from the POV of someone who is honest, helpful & here for the right reasons(not flattering you but it is what it is) Would have preferred the way the thread was before but that ship has sailed.. & that other USA visa thread does not address the issue of how to go about preggy visa, POE with belle, Navigating with belle, how to get baby docs etc.. You know what your "BURDEN OF PROOF" did to my life at ORD POE? You don't have an idea how invaluable that was? Thank you for that... This thread has been bastardised.... once an info gets dropped here, in little to no time, it goes downhill... From our sojourn in Chicago, we found more than 10 hospitals & numerous Drs but DR A still gets the lion share cos he has agents who would PM you & ask you to tell him you are a friend of theirs( they know themselves) & he too would ask who referred you to him... People coming here, getting info & blocking people from benefitting is my grouse. ... |

modath: I totally understand you, but what do you reckon? That the thread has served its purpose and should be closed? So that agents don't benefit? We have to stop a good course cos of some bad eggs? Throwing the bath water with the baby, no? Agents have been lurking around this thread from time immemorial. In fact, i think we had more of them in part 1 as we used to expose them on daily basis, but that didn't stop us from moving forward. Look at it this way: if we have the info on this thread, these agents will have less customers as most people will be armed with the necessary info they need, FOC. What is the risk of posting openly? Agents could take advantage of it and Naija mamas could bombard the place and they stop taking us. But at least, it gets to help many people. What is the risk of not sharing at all? No one gets the info and we are stuck. The rich ones resort to agents to get half baked info. People like me start doing all night research as i no get money to pay any agent. I would very much prefer the former. Nothing like joining heads together in a life changing journey as this, with people sharing their real life experiences. Personal research doesn't come close. I should know cos i did loads of that. This is same thing happening to the Canada version of this thread. So many people are interested in birthing in Canada but the ones with info won't share. The thread is as good as dead. This is the way this thread will go if this continues. 16 Likes |

Phema: You and i know you make sense dieeeeee.. but you didn't look at it from the POV that not everyone goes on this missionary journey at the same thing... The info that gets dropped here become useless in a month of two cos of high influx of calls & the genuine people don't even get to benefit in most cases... & the most annoying part is that since they personally don't have nothing at stake, they don't feel the hurt that I'm sure you felt when MIHS closed its doors..... Increment in price is a problem that can be sorted, outright refusal of service nko? They are right back here to lurk, get the next info & the cycle continues... My 2k but I'm so hooked on it. 1 Like 1 Share |

Reading aptly opinions from the two sides..It's obvious the pros of sharing info openly greatly outweighs the cons... I am a beneficiary of Vivian's post.. I was going to stay in NJ and I even got deals which I shared here, but ported one time to MIHS after considering lots of things.. I met many wonderful mamas here (Dinawe even accommodated me the first night in Az before I got my own place) The truth is even if you PM or post openly, the agents will get these info one way or the other. So for me to share an info, someone sends a PM, which I will first respond to cos I won't see the message immediately. Then she responds and I will first check his/her profile out before I determine if I want to share my precious info or not.Pray tell by the time One person does this for like five people asking the same thing, won't she be tired? Then I then want to confirm if anyone has Naija reviews of the Doc/hosp, I still can't cos it will be termed advert..So how will I know if to go ahead or not? The openness of this blog has kept the blog alive.. Popri just got anti-malaria drugs from firsty(God bless her)..Do you think this will have been possible if it's the hush method been practiced.. Same as the lady that wanted for her LO.. We can go on and on and on on the pros. Part 1 of the thread, just as Phema said, it was easy to spot out the agents when they asked questions.. I remember before the tsunami there was a lady who claimed to share POE experience, then later came back to share Visa testimony...It was glaring she/he was an agent...And she kept asking questions..It's easy to spot someone who is not genuine.. Part 1, I remember vividly people been admonished to be mindful of personal info they shared.. The thread surely won't die, but the whole essence of the thread will be abused..Na to dey share POE/Visa testimony collect offering join.. JW, it's paramount that you review your rules please..Rigidity often times shades objectivity. 6 Likes |

look at it from this angle... if this new policy is implemented fully this exact complaint and reason you are putting foward would play out and fast at that. by the time everyone starts queuing to a handlful of hospitals and the so called agents/pirates have not much game to pounce on .. they too (hospitals and docs) will close their doors then everybody will be OYO... we should know very well that wherever sector you find yourself as long as there is valuable info there will always be trolls and pirates... you cant help it. well, i guess you will be comfortable because as u don be guru and grasp the logic of things... even if we shutdown or put embargo on even POE stories sef u no get shaking as u na don for the matter... buh the newbies we are indirectly chasing them into the hands of the same agents we are checking against and apparently giving them more business. well... POV differs and me in as much as i keep carrying placard for a policy review, i no get headache anyways ooh... i got one more round and i know where i am going... thanks to all the veterans that have been extremely kind enough to put the info out there.... PS: if this new policy regime stays, the admin should be kind enough to edit parts 1 and 2 because then part should just be a reference directing newbies & pirates alike to parts one and two. business continua. modath: |

modath: Of course. People don't plan to get pregnant at same time. modath: But at least, it gets to help some people at that time. Better than not helping anyone at all with this secrecy policy. modath: I was only hurt because I even got to know about them. What if info was not shared on this forum? Would I have known, talk more being hurt? modath: Not the end of the world. There are so many other hospitals in the US. If info is allowed, good packages will come up and we all will benefit. Afterall, if we didn't get to know about the hospital, we wouldn't even be here talking about price increment and whatnot. modath: Not a problem. Most people here won't patronise them anyways, if they get quality info here. modath: That is because you are not the new mamas desperately in need of info. I was in their shoes and I know how daunting the whole process can be with little or no info. We all have gained from this thread, we should learn to give back. 25 Likes |
