I have seen well-behaved and intelligent children turn out well without beating beaten. I have also had the opportunity to care for frustrating kids without touching a strand of their hair therefore no one is going to beat my kids except I and their dad.

Yup! Its part of discipline. Spare the rod and spoil the child

When they disfigure your child, cheer them on.

They need not spare the rod.

Hell to the noooo.
I can't just allow ma kids to be caned, it doesn't just make any sense tho ma parents used it on me countless times, i would say it doesn't have any effect on me.
Rods are meant for animals n criminals nah.
Get ready 2spoil your kids by sparing the rod.

A VERY TOUCHING STORY.
A little gal saw a dead cat on the road on her way back from school. She was so sad because she loved cats so she touched it, she touched it again, she touched it and touched it. She paused for a while den she touched it again. She went home to change into new clothes and came back to touch it again. She kept touching.. . As I told u earlier its a touching story.

Hahahaha..

One of d duties of d teacher is to b a parent-substitute,meaning as soon as d child enters d school gate,s/he automatically becomes d teacher's child n anyhow a parent decides to handle his or her child is how d child wil b handled,n no parent wil kill his or her child.

Yes, but to an extent. Some teachers can peel the skin off kids, I don't stand for that but in some cases a simple stroke of cane solves the issue.

I marvelled at some comments on this topic! We are Africans and that's the way we were also brought up. Why will you have to spare the rod and spoil the child? Most of you were brought up this way and turned out good. So u people want to bring 'oyinbo mentality' in this too and destroy the lives and future of our young ones? This is catastrophe!!!

whether at school or at home, I don't believe in beating a child.
it did not change me in anyway as a kid. instead it made me hardened
Talking and Punishment is better. that's we have councillors in the school

Talking without fear or rebuke helped a lot more than beating.

If my children errs, they must be beaten by their teacher. Corrective punishment drives sense into them.

As a teacher, I discipline my students. use of cane is not the first mode of discipline.
You can adopt various means
1. The student can be given two or three pages of the dictionary to copy into an exercise book and to learn their meaning. The mode of discipline depends on age, class, nature of the offence committed and gender.
2. The teacher can use the rod, not to cause physical injury but to correct them. We talk, talk, talk, and if the talking is not yielding good result, we then discuss with them one by one in order to know the root of the problem if it persists.

Not all teachers are brutal, people need to appreciate those of us who are professionals.

How will you handle cases of fighting, stealing and jumping over the fence in a school without the use of cane?

Thank you for bringing this up...
If it can't be stopped I will stop it on my own childrens' time, this has became something our so called school teachers do to peoples' kids in the name of "spare the rod and Spoil the child" bullsh*t. after fighting with ur husband/wife at home then you start looking for other peopls kids to rest on.. Don't even try it because na ur body self go tell u.
