I am honest and upfront with what I earn. He seems to be good with savings and good financial advice, but I can never hand over my salary.

Yes I do spoil him with expensive gifts and help where I can, but I have no obligation to hand it over. But yes we do discuss some important financial spendings like mortgage etc. Other smaller household responsibilities, we agreed that it's his responsibility and my responsibility to save for rainy days.

There's nothing wrong,i know of a family the wife is a Doctor and a hubby teacher, the car the man is driving was bought by the woman, and she pays close to 80% of ther bills, but they live together happily. To me,its not bad, if the man is not lazy

if they agree to pursue a goal,of which with the husband salary such goal cannot be accomplished,it is advisable that the woman should support because it is for the benefit of the family.

It depends tho. I won't give a lazy husband who's not ready to work up to half of my salary because he's definitely going to blow it up.

So your ass is chocolate?

I think that money should go into a joint bank account created for the purpose of funding family/household projects - but I'm a single lady what do I know.

Three married women I know of have done this sort of thing on a regular basis, it led to their husbands becoming lazy and slacking off on responsibilities like paying school fees, house rent etcetera practically leaving those responsibilities to their wives to handle.

My only concern and fear is that your husband may go the way the men described above did. On the other hand another true life story of a married couple I know was different from the women above.

Tunde (not real name) was unemployed for seven years and all his attempts at business/finding aa stable source of income wasn't yielding fruits. His wife (let's call her Kanwulia) on the other hand was gainfully employed and each time she received her salary she would give all of it to Tunde.

I figure she did this to honour him as her husband and the head of the home. Tunde never took things for granted and always used the money wisely & prudently. No one ever knew the situation in that house for as long as it lasted not even their family & friends.

The couple Tunde & Kanwulia handle pre-marital counseling & classes at a certain church and often share their story with intending couples.

You know your husband better than I do. Will he in the long run behave like Tunde or the other three husbands I mentioned?

A joint account thingy is what I would do in your shoes and since you earn more you can as well fund the account at a higher ratio than your husband with a caveat - that caveat being that you are both signatories to the account and one person cannot withdraw funds without the knowledge & signature of the other. That way you are kept in the loop and aware of where your monies collectively as a couple is going to.

So ultimately, there is "no one cap fits all" advice, know your spouse and do what's best for the marriage as a whole. Fair enough!

Thanks

So what is he giving her husband money for?

If it is to pay part of the bills, then there is nothing wrong. If the husband can give the wife money, why can't the wife give her husband money?

The two of em are United to become one, it's "their" money not hid/her money. Such matter is not something anyone goes about asking "is it right" from the general public.

Not necessarily, except at a time he has an urgent need.

It's best if she uses that part to support the home, buy things that are needed for the home, without bothering the husband for money for Omo or bathing soap.
This is exactly how I know most Igbo homes to be. Unless the man runs into difficulties Igbo men do this for their family. I have little respect for men who expect their wives to give them money and still refuse to do house work in that family. If everything should be shared then they better start cooking, washing, bathing the children and looking after them or are they not part of that household? You left for work the same time as your wife and return the same time you go and sit down waiting for her to serve you food and tidy the bed for you to relax later. End of the month she hands over her salary to you!!! That is not husband but parasite.

She can only support the man not given out part of her check or physical cash to her husband. Marriage is 50/50
