I was in The saloon when I overheard this story. According to the woman who was narrating it, the boy and girl had been dating for quite a couple of years. He finally proposed and she accepted. They've met each other's parents but their parents haven't met each other. However, trouble came when they were about doing the girl's introduction. The father of the boy recognized the girl's mother as his former hooker. It's been years ago but he still recognized her anyway. Further investigation revealed her mother had her as a result of one of such escapades. The boy's family wasted no time in leaving with their son and never went back. They even went as far as saying the girl will turn out to be just like her mother. A girl who grew up without a father can never be a good wife. After the narration, the women in the saloon started giving their comments and opinions. Only one woman said it really doesn't matter even if the girl's mother was a murderer. Children shouldn't be judged based on the character or past of their parents. That brings us to the question of what actually can be overlooked when you're about to get married? Can you overlook the tribe, religion, past/history amongst other things? If you were in the shoes of the Boy's family above, would you overlook the mother's past? |

Nigerians and their cave man mentality,so the boys mother sheepishly followed the boys father's decision even though he cheated on her with the girl's mother... even the boy too, some people needs to be flogged |

I think that's a bit unfair to punish the girl for the sins of her mother. Did she ask to have a hoe as a mother? No. Like they say, you can't choose parents. If she was good enough for him to even consider marrying her, then she must not be that bad as a person after all. On a naughty side, maybe she picked up a thing or two from mom 1 Like |

Inasmuch as i will accept that a child should not be purnish for the parent sins i dnt think the child will be different especially in behavioural areas and moral values... Op i dnt think all will go well considering what the father in law revelation entails,. Something might happen it the future and the inlaw might be like i knew it,she has aborted all the children in her womb,or i knew it,she is a very immoral lady without proper upbringing, things like this can escalate into bigger issues... But if they guy trust the lady and somehw feel she is different frm her mum, what is he waiting for? |

Jollyjoy: I went to school with this girl whose mom drank so much. It embarrassed her that her mom was always drunk to the point where I think she subconsciously vowed never to be like her mom. Indeed she turned out different, because she's now married to a pastor & is very religious. So sometimes having bad parents is a good wake up call for the children, to never go down the same path their parents took. |

PunkyVeer:you will agree with me that the adge like mother like daughter is to some extent true but that does not mean all daughters are like their mum.. The lady might be different, read my last paragraph but there are children, daughters particularly that are like their mum in terms of moral values while others stand out,it all comes down to who the lady really is from the point of view. |

Jollyjoy:True talk. Some people say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. That might be true but so many people just aren't open minded enough. Later they'll be claiming educated. |

Jollyjoy: I do agree but there's always an exception to every rule. Bottom line, he thought of marrying her. Meaning, she must have good qualities regardless of where she grew up in. What I've noticed about people who grew up in dysfunctional households is that they tend to mature earlier than others, because most of them basically raise themselves due to the lack of parental care. They become responsible people. I remember my friend used to return from school & act as a mother to her two younger siblings. She cooked, cleaned...which I think prepared her for adulthood. It's not all bad. Diamonds are dug from dirt after all. 2 Likes |

PunkyVeer:this is not applicable to all since i also have one who is an exact replica of the mum but in behaviour and moral values, she is involve in so many immoral vices that merely seeing her will give you an inkling of who the mum is.. That does nt mean your point is void tho.... We are all different... |
