http://www.investopedia.com/terms/s/sell-in-may-and-go-away.asp

DEFINITION OF 'SELL IN MAY AND GO AWAY'

A well-known trading adage that warns investors to sell their stock holdings in May to avoid a seasonal decline in equity markets. The "sell in May and go away" strategy is that an investor who sells his or her stock holdings in May and gets back into the equity market in November - thereby avoiding the typically volatile May-October period - would be much better off than an investor who stays in equities throughout the year.

INVESTOPEDIA EXPLAINS 'SELL IN MAY AND GO AWAY'

This strategy is based on the historical underperformance of stocks in the six-month period commencing in May and ending in October, compared to the six-month period from November to April. According to the Stock Trader's Almanac, since 1950, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has had an average return of only 0.3% during the May-October period, compared with an average gain of 7.5% during the November-April period.

There are limitations to implementing this strategy in practice, such as the added transaction costs and tax implications of the rotation in and out of equities. Another drawback is that market timing and seasonality strategies do not always work out, and the actual results may be very different from the theoretical ones.

While the exact reasons for this seasonal trading pattern are not known, lower trading volumes due to the summer vacation months and increased investment flows during the winter months are cited as contributory reasons for the discrepancy in performance during the May-October and November-April periods, respectively.

I raised the above RED FLAP on 1st of MAY this year.

But some group of people under of the aegis of "WE ARE MAKING MONEY THIS YEAR" antagonized.

Well I hope they are still making the MONEY grin

Those dumping transcorp aren't done yet oo. They are ready to sell below 1.81 this morning, but d price slump seems unbearable to market makers. An attempt to buy below 1.81 was met with a red flag warning. "Trade rule: bid price cannot be less than 1.81" Forced to sheath the sword wink

If he's not supporting Naira Devaluation, he will be shouting he earns millions in dollars, the next day,he will be busy screaming I warned you not to buy.

......But he has forgotten that whatever he claims he earns in dollars is somebody's donation to charity or tithe.

But that's kinda sad init? The stock market is important, but I'll wager that there are equally other very vital things that could keep a sane person quite busy such that his posts on the forum wouldn't become an irritant.

In the right context, pessimism has its strengths, however peter and chibubear's use of the disposition on this thread has lost so much context that they've turned the mental attitude into ignorance and gross incapacity.

I wonder ooo. grin

Some say I no get job. Some say my mind na devils workshop. Some say it's due to cheap internet all because of the heart-attack WALE created for them.

I ve spent over a decade both in Singapore and UAE and i can authoritatively tell you that both voice call and internet are VERY VERY VERY CHEAP in Nigeria compare to those 2 countries.

Well in all honesty I dont blame them coz i know what it means for someone to lose 50% of his portfolio within one week and there's no end in sight yet.

Though that won't stop me from raising RED FLAPS to save the obedient newbies that have not been trapped.
